I watched this video twice and I am having a disagreement with my dealer. He says my 2007 Honda Accord, LX 4cyl does not have a transmission filter, then I said it's an in-line filter, he said nope!! I said yes it does, both my sons said it does and now watching this I see it does, then my son showed me. I am taking the filter to show the dealers mechanic that there is a filter, here it is and this is where it is at, and I will have my son do the flush, they lost my business. I wanted to get it done professionally because my son's make their mother wait when it comes to my car. They work on everyone first because they pay. Anyway, I never thought my son would be smarter than a dealer mechanic, he is a mechanic and a better one. Now I have to go there and prove them wrong. I even called corporate headquarters to verify this and the only thing different they said was 2 1/2 quarts of fluid. But a dealer saying to me that there is no filter. Well now they are going to get embarrassed by a 60 year old woman that doesn't like someone playing stupid. Thanks for the video, you helped in this argument. My son said, he told me so.

i just followed this technique , the only thing i did different was going in the other hose of the transmission so I can flush the radiator too. Also the filter hoses are easy to remove with the filter still installed. just twist them a bit and they go out easy.

Followed this procedure on a 2008 Civic. It's a small pain to disconnect the line and pump out the old, nasty fluid in the torque converter (if you just remove the drain plug, - all you are doing is replacing half the trans fluid, effectively diluting the old fluid with new by 50%). A bigger pain to disconnect the airbox and related tubing to get to the external inline trans filter, but this is the complete service. Thanks for sharing your experience - and ignore the whiners.

I have a transmission question. I bought a used Honda Accord 2003 6 cylinder 2018. When I drive over a speed bump or make a right turn, my transmission hesitates or slips. It's more like it hesitates then it engages and I'm good to go. This only happens once in a while. The transmission sounds and feels healthy.

So how does it shift? No complaints about your procedure, i do the exact same thing, but i do prefer to have the old ATF to drain into a pan after the transmission heat exchanger so that i know i got all the old fluid out of both the trans/torque converter/heat exchanger. Not a big deal if you do regular maintenance though which it looks like you do

So just did my trans the exact way you did and now I'm dealing with high idle issue only when it's in park, also it wont shift out of park now. I have to use the bypass button on the side of the shifter to go into reverse or drive. Other than that my car is shifting 100% better when driving. I only went for a little drive to test it. Before I did that I made sure to shift through the gears. You have any idea what's going on? I did some research and only thing I can think of is I added too much fluid but it is at the 2nd dot. Some people say it might be my idle control valve and that I should clean it out. I'd appreciate any help whatsoever. Appreciate it!

Yeah Honda oil is probably the best. Good video, but I have one more tip. Instead of taking off the facia to get at the hose to the rad, go to the other hose coming out and pull it off instead. It is in the open, easy to get at....I put a smaller hose inside it and directed that into my container.

Finally someone else who does flushes on non CVT transmissions same as I do. I've been getting so much grief over the years from "licensed" mechanics screaming the return line is so important because its also lubricating parts. At idle, the left over fluid in the return line is more than enough. Only difference I would suggest is not to run it until the pressure line is spitting out air. I usually count to about 20 or 25 seconds each run so there's still a minor amount of fluid left in the pan. It'll take a little more fluid to flush out properly but at least its not running dry which I think is important in higher mileage transmissions. Then just measure each time after the 25 second run and fill that much back in with fresh fluid. Video was chill, well filmed and explained. Awesome job!

I missed the part where you used that hose you showed in the beginning. I'll rewatch. Still, a very good video. Good job. Update: I did this flush and fill today. Here are the lessons I learned: 1. The 90 degree pliars are indespensible. You will need them on every clamp. The bend helps you reach all three components of the clamp. I bought a huge pair at HF for $4. Why? Because I tried this with a pair of normal pliars and an adjustable one. Neither worked. 2. The underbody plastic must be removed. I tried getting to the first clamp and couldn't get a grip. 3. WD-40 does help with the underbody plastic retainers. 4. The orientation of the filter is determined by the bracket. It has a half-circle slit on the steering wheel side. The filter as a lip that fits into this slit. A very good method that so should be followed very closely. Thank you.

the radiator fans only have three bolts & two lil plugs. if you remove the fan its very easy to see the rubber hose & clamps. since you're not driving far doing this flush it wouldn't hurt to start the car for a minute or two without the fans. do the flush & snap the fans back in.

@@kimoclydethere’s a couple layers in a transmission that look like those “maze with the ball” toys you might have played with as a child with tons of passageways. And ATF is a good cleaner on its on, so if you do a complete flush the new fluid will clean the transmissions gunk build up, but that build up might clog the passages causing the transmission to fail prematurely. Your best bet is to drain the transmission and re fill. Remember the transmission clutch plates use fluid pressure to grab the plate to move your car, if there’s no friction it will slip. 110% recommend drain and fill. And repeat process in 10k miles, and after the second flush you can drain and fill every 40k-65k miles. Hope this helps!

I've been overdosing on these tranny videos and there is definitely a school of thought on whether to change or flush. ChrisFix (I think he's called) says to look at the colour of the oil to decide. If it's black and tar like, then don't. In this instance, I don't see what the problem would be, I *think* this myth is more to do with HOW you take the old oil out, and if it's sucked out through the dipstick, then definitely don't do a flush. In this instance, the oil is going in the same direction, and so a flush I'm guessing would be fine/good.

Ron Burton we didn’t just add 3 quarts to the transmission. We did an entire flush. We saved the last 4 bottles to refill the transmission. We added 3 quarts first and used the last bottle to top off the fluids. You can do the flush with 12 quarts, but we had only 9 quarts to use so it still works. If you want to do a drain and refill. You can remove the drain bolt on the bottom and then refill it on the top dipstick tube.

I have 2007 Hoda Accord. if I start the car in the morning and I engage the transmission it will delay for some seconds before it will engage. Secondly, if the transmission is engaged and the car starts moving, the transmission between gear 1 and 2 engages forcefully with a sound that will shake the car. Thereafter the transmission will become smooth when the engine becomes hot. if the car is parked for up to six hours, same problem will start again. What do do you advice?

You can drain and refill and replace the filter. It doesn't have to be a flush.

Going from memory, when you do a trans oil change it's around 2.9litres, but when you do a flush, getting ALL the oil out, it's about double that, around 6 or so litres? I only saw you put 3 quarts in there? Or did I miss something?
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 2 ай бұрын
In total was about 4 quarts I think… but put in 3 quarts first so you don’t over fill it. There was still fluids in the torque converter so that’s why it didn’t take the whole 6 quarts since it’s not entirely empty.

@NutzAboutBolts

yeah you can just remove the drain plug, its usually 4 quarts. But you should fill it up to 3 quarts and then top off as needed. 9-12 quarts is a full flush like in our video.

the trans does have a drain plug, we did a drain and refill video before, but doing this way will remove fluids from your entire transmission system, including the torque converter.

so would you first drain from the trans drain plug, and then put it back in and remove the cooler line and pump the rest out? I see an advantage of draining from the plug first to remove any contaminants in the box and then removing the cooler line to remove the rest from the torque converter. Or should you drain from drain plug, refill, then drain from cooler line and then refill again?
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Hatzidimitriou you can drain it from the drain plug and remove any metal debris from the magnetic drain plug, then plug it back in, refill with 4 quarts and flush it from the line the remaining fluids in the torque converter, and refill back up the rest. Make sure to use all your fluids so it'll get rid of all the old fluids out. We usually use 12 quarts.

have the car on until you see the fluid starts spitting out like we showed in the video, then shut off your car or else you'll risk running the transmission dry, which can cause damage to it.

I lived a dilemma of orientations, so I drained the fluid inside a container with a meter, and found the measure of 3.5L, strange? OK? So I decided to put 3L initially and do the level check. So, by surprise, everything was OK ... the Honda distributor instructed me to put 2.8L ... I put 3L. Good luck guys. thanks! directly from Brazil ... honda accord 2.0 2007 125K

I've heard that if its old and dirty and you try to flush or drain it, the particles that hold it together will be lose and will cause a problem. so if its old don't even bother it, or you can bring it to the dealer and if they mess it up, you are covered by them.

Thank you for making such a useful and informative DIY video. I'm new at this but very handy and already did my motor mounts and valve cover gasket. Honda's prices can light a fire under your butt to DIY. But my question is, can I do both the hose and drain plug method to ensure its all out? And if so, which one do I do first? I plan on doing this tomorrow morning (Sunday 3rd) So if you don't respond in time its cool. i'm just trying my luck here. Thank you and what you're doing here on your channel is truly helpful and some, if not the best DIY clips on KZfaq. Crisp video positioning, video quality and crisp audio. Keep doing what your doing here. Much Props!

+NYCMP1 Thanks! as for the method. I would do the hose method like in this video since it's draining out all of the fluids in the transmission system. If you do both method at the same time, it might not be pushing all of the dirty fluids out since when you're refilling it with fresh fluid, it'll get drain out of the transmission pan instead of getting sucked back up into the system and pushing the old fluids out. I hope that helps explain the method. If not, let me know.

+NutzAboutBolts Thanks for the prompt response. Very much appreciated. Yeah that makes sense but how about the metal shavings on the plug. That's what I wanted to also get at, the metal deposits on the magnet. Wiping the plug clean. Is there a way or am I OCD'ing here lol.
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 8 жыл бұрын
+NYCMP1 thats true, you can remove the plug after the fluids start to sputter on the hose and the engine is off. Then wipe away the drain plug and all the metal shavings and then plug it up and resume the process.

Hey guys, the Honda V6 does have a transmission filter. It's located on top of the transmission below the battery case. It's a pain though to change especially if you haven't done it before but well worth it. I changed mine and it looks dirty and grayish from the metal shavings. Most people including most Honda technicians and Honda customer support don't know it even exists because Honda doesn't say anything about it in their service manual, I wonder why. Honda said it supposed to last for the life of the transmission, really? I don't believe that BS. Honda should at least recommend it changed at 60k or 105k at the most.

@caseytenney9969

In an old transmission that hasn't had the fluid changed the dirt in the oil adds friction which might be the only thing making it shift. With new fluid it might cause it to slip.

no, the WD-40 will drip out and wouldn't be enough to cause any damage. the hose won't come loose as well because the clamp is there to hold it in place. Plus, there's not enough pressure to cause the hose to come loose.
