Keith, you know you're a great tech when you can walk into a shop and use their tools and equipment to diagnose a car. Just proves knowledge is power and no matter how big the toolbox. It doesn't make the tech. Most important tool is the mind.

For anyone interested in how to find out exactly what MAF reading should be at certain RPM. Here is a formula to figure it out: (liter size of engine X RPM)/reference RPM= Theoretic g/sec So for this engine I took the readings at minute 3:15 (2.5x762)/600= 3.175 this means at 762 RPM the MAF reading should be right at 3.175 g/sec To check the accuracy (Actual g/sec X Accuracy baseline)/ Theoretic g/sec= % of Accuracy (6.21 X 100)/ 3.175=195.59 OR 95.59% off at idle Thanks Keith for putting out great videos!

Im puzzled! it is almost impossible that this an Autel elite, I have the autel pro & the speed of my Autel is like night & day compared to what I'm seeing in this video. Instructions is Key when doing a idle/air relearn on Nissan, Engine temp must be between 70-90 celcius, PNP switch off (IN PARK) all electrical loads off & Idle below 1300rpm. If the rpm is to high unplug a coil to bring it down, once process is complete the idle comes down a bit plug the coil back in & repeat the process with all coils in if desired idle speed has not been met. Autel is my goto tool for programming Nissan idle/air, the first time had me stumped but once I fully read & understood the instructions it became a simple process. All scan tools are slower with older Nissan's! I own All of the Big 3 scan tools Snapon, Autel & Launch. Snap on is fastest but lacks a ton of features, Autel & Launch run at about the same speed with older Nissan's. Your videos are very informative, great work!.

To be fair,each aftermarket scantool might be faster or slower depending on the make you’re using it on. Do a video in parallel on the same make and model : use your IPhone timer and time from the moment you hook it onto a car,communicate,automatic identification and complete module scan-between Autel and Launch. Just a thought... I know an aftermarket scantool,it costs 15 thousand dollars and it starts with the last letter of the alphabet : it won’t even communicate with a Nissan. 😁 Nice video Keith! 👍

That thing was 4x faster than my Autel! I have the 906TS, not the Elite. Mine doesn't like Chryslers or Nissans - takes FOREVER to load all the data parameters on either one - and I mean FOREVER!! I don't have that strange "spotlight" thing that was hanging around on the right side of the screen there, that you were able to drag out of the way - no idea what that was. On domestics (except Chrysler) and other Jap brands, my Autel does pretty good. I do wish it had a STOP button, though - I get frustrated and just reboot the tool by holding in the power button until the screen goes black. Sometimes it will perform functions without letting you know ... and other times it will do nothing, also without letting you know. One of the quirks of paying $1,600 instead of $11,000 I figure ... Plus I haven't updated it in 2 years. Pretty steep bill for that. Only tool I've got, so gotta run with what I brung ... I always figured when a MAF fails, it will under-report. Good to know! Great vid - I appreciate it! 👍 👍

A quick check I use is to disconnect the maf. If car runs after you know your on the right track. Also I've had maf codes and it was actually the map sensor wiring cut. Ecu was comparing both map and maf and decided one was wrong the maf but infact the map was the faulty signal. Just goes to show don't trust the codes and check yourself back probes the maf and it was spot on. So looked elsewhere and found map sensor harness was rubbed through partly on the radiator fan.

Hey Keith! Hope all is well. 2011 Altima 2.5 Gas got a code P2423 HC adsorber Catalyst - B1 yesterday. I had an aftermarket downstream direct fit walker cat with fex pipe that was 2 years old. Advance swapped it out under 5 yr warranty. Did drive cycle and all IM readiness passed. Noticed before and after replacing cat positive short term Fuel Trim bounces between +3 and +10 and long term +5.5. I guess it’s still in an acceptable threshold since the ECM hasn’t tripped any codes. There is still a permanent code sword for the original code I mentioned at the beginning. I don’t have any known good data for this car. Do you think these fuel trims are normal? Thanks so much!

This may be a fair question, if the maf sensor is reporting more air, how come the stft is negative? Shouldn't it be positive to compensate?
@Joetechlincolns5 жыл бұрын
No, reporting more airflow into engine vs actual means ecu thinks engine needs more fuel. Ecu increases fuel but does not use fuel trim for that part, then O2 shows rich and ECU then corrects by reducing injector pulsewidth. Short term goes negative when reducing fuel trim to compensate. I sure someone can explain this better. Maf isn't a feedback sensor more like a primary air mass input that ecu uses to calculate fuel,timing etc. O2 gives feed back to ecu so it can correct for errors. In this case maf was causing the error.

@davidquinn61615 жыл бұрын
