Hello KZfaq viewers. I have uploaded another vehicle repair video. The subject of the current video is a 2003 Ford Explorer. The Explorer sometimes makes a strange knocking sound from the rear left interior. As a result, I decided to find the problem, which turned out to be one of two heater actuators. So if you need to access your rear heater components on one of these Explores, keep watching, and time stamps are included below.
1. From 00:00 to 00:24, the Explorer's sound radiating from the vehicle's rear left is demonstrated.
2. From 00:25 to 00:48, the rear upper interior rear gate opening area trim piece is removed.
3. From 00:49 to 00:56, the rear left roof interior cover is removed.
4. From 00:57 to 01:20, the c-pillar post trim is removed
5. From 01:21 to 03:11, the middle rear seat left seat belt bolt is removed on the floor side of the belt. 6. From 03:12 to 03:29, the rear left door scuff plate and weatherstripping is removed.
7. From 03:30 to 10:41, the third seat is removed.
8. From 10:42 to 11:56, the third seat belt is removed from its floor-mounted location.
9. From 11:57 to 12:20, the lower interior trim piece is removed from the rear gate opening area on the Explorer.
10. From 12:21 to 13:02, the rear inner left quarter panel cover is removed.
11. From 13:03 to 15:03, the rear heater box mounting bolts and nut are removed to access the heater actuator.
12. From 15:04 to 18:36, the heater actuator is replaced with a new part.
13. From 18:37 to 21:00, the heater box is bolted back in place.
14. From 21:01 to 22:58, the rear inner left quarter panel cover is installed.
15. From 22:59 to 24:32, the c-pillar cover is installed and properly lined up, so the rear shoulder belt height is adjustable.
16. From 24:33 to 25:17, the bottom of the seat belt is bolted securely fast to the Explorer.
17. From 25:18 to 25:57, the rear left door weatherstripping is put back on, along with the scuff plate.
18. From 25:58 to 28:31, the rear left post trim is installed, and the seat belt is bolted fast.
19. From 28:32 to 29:41, the rear opening lower area trim is installed.
20. From 29:42 to 30:16, the rear opening upper area trim is installed.
21. From 30:17 to 36:59, the third seat is installed.

Ford has always gotta make shit difficult for us lol. I'm a mechanical/electrical engineer and I still knew I needed to watch a video on how to get to these damn actuators. Fantastic video though, definitely adding your channel to the list of trusted information 👍

Hi Alan. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I had the same problem in my 2004 Explorer. The sound became constant. I could no longer find a spot that it would stop. I had to do the dirty deed. I am handy but had trepidation about this fix. After seeing your video it convinced me i could do it. This video is spot on and i followed every step to the T. It went well. Hardest part is that seat belt bolt. PB blaster for a couple days before i Started. I did both actuators. 3-31/2 hours taking my time. I am lucky enough to have a heated garage. It's running perfect. Again Thanks for this great Video.

It makes me thrilled to know the video helped you repair your vehicle. Without a doubt, this is neither the most pleasing nor the worst project if you have access to decent tools and a good place to work. Thank you for watching.

Good video explaining it except when I'm go to replace both actuators because if one went bad it's only a matter of time before the other one goes bad. Save yourself the hassle of tearing it apart again. Other thing is i'm going to use 3/8-1/2 impact wrenchs to get the seat bolts out. Less time and faster then racheting them all out

I have that clicking sound and I am just adjusting the temp dial so it stops... but I hardly ever run it anyway... that's way too much work for something I almost never run.
