Thanks for the video. I called my local Honda shop today asking them about service and they recommended I have them replace my plugs. I've replaced the plugs in other cars I've owned but not in my CR-V. I asked them how much and the advisor quoted me $200.00 just for the plugs; he said it takes at least an hour. I believe I'll find time to do it myself when the time comes.

Passing on a suggestion I found while looking for tips on chging plugs on my truck: Use electrical tape to tightly tape the socket to the extension so it doesn't pull off in the tube to the plug. Worked for me. Added measure of safety.

For easy coil removal, be sure to squeeze the connector near the wire end, not the mating end. Also applied a small amount of dialectric grease to spark plug boot to aid reinstallation and create moisture barrier. Noted some rust at top of hex flange begining to form.

The specs for the spark plugs are 13 ft-lbs. The wheel nuts are 80 ft-lbs.

used NGK iridium. gap 0.039 to 0.043 in (1-1.1mm). also the plugs come pre-gapped.

@TaLoCc OEM is NGK. And yes, there was a little more smoothness to acceleration and idle after the change.

On my 2003, the interior coil bolts were not removed as part of the cover bolts. In fact, what remained was a shoulder bolt of sorts where a deep socket would have been ideal. The 3/8 socket did not clear the shoulder due to the stepped down design of the larger drive. I was able to jury rig a 1/4 socket in conjunction with vice grips to remove the bolts. Like I said a deep socket would be idea. At 96.5K miles plugs not bad, but worth replacing.

i hear from NGK you are not supposed to apply anti-seize grease to the threads. It messes up the torque they say.

you should be able to find it at any auto parts store. i got mine from autozone this time, but i have seen it at napa and kragen too.

@stratfenderstrum: I agree with you, I noticed it right away, 13ft-lbs is not much and with the torque wrench used- it sure did seem to be tightened more than 13 ft-lbs. Maybe the torque wrench needs calibration.

Do not even try to gap NGK Iridiums these are gapped at the factory, they are very fragile and will get damaged if you try to change the gap. The NGK's are OEM = original factory specs and should last 90K miles.

Hey ajchien don't you think it is stupid that the newer vehicles out there pretty much cover up the entire engine with plastic ? It just makes it harder to change stuff in your car like spark plugs.

@sj00884 Hm. I thought i read somewhere that the plug i got were pre gapped. Therefore i didnt bother checking them. Ill check them from now on just to make sure. @others, I changed it out early at 100k.

the gap isn't always right though trying checking them.

@ajchien How did you know they were pre-gapped? I just purchased a set and the only note I found on NGK site was that "you may want to check" the gap. Nothing on the container states anything about being pre-gapped. I'd like not to mess with these in any way if you know what I mean :) By the way, love your work here AJChien, has helped me on too many occasions to speak of.

Everything is OK until the torquing part. Looks like you tightened the hell out of them...They are not wheel nuts..
