Here’s a little driving video in my 2003 Saab 9-3 turbo. I just got this car but have been a Saab fan for years. This car is so unique (even with the GM buyout) and is a blast to drive!

i have to say never push a cold motor special with turbo like you did and if you are finished driving let the engine run for a quick time .. not suddenly turn it off but anyway iam just a 20 year old kid :D

Rocky Balboa The engine was warmed up when I started and the whole "let the engine cool down and the turbo spool down before you shut it off" thing is true, but only really applies when you've driven the car super hard right up until the end of the drive.

Rocky Balboa Yeah, I was also 20 when someone told that to me, but you had to drive the car fast so the turbo would've been working his ass like...like a man when he works hard!!! I love the 93 and the cool turbo cars like the old Spirit R/T

I just got myself a 1.8t which i'm about to get from the dealership tomorrow. It's a Linear plus SS. It's got everything the Vector has except leather seats and one cupholder less. Got it for $4700, well worth it! No sign of rust or any other issues.

+Jake You can easily do a remapping to get it to have over 210 hp easily. Just got my 04 2.0t to 235hp on a biopower ethanol conversion.

+1esaus any problems so far after the remap? or is it reliable? I have a 9-3 1.8t 2003 modell (150 hp) and i have considered to have it remapped, is it worth the money ?
@1esaus
@1esaus 8 жыл бұрын
No no problems with the remap itself. I had a problem with number 3 cylinder recently, but it was related to either loose connector or loose sparkplug after we did the remap and replacing of the sparkplugs and fuel injectors. It has better fuel economy after the remap and the yearly MOT test last week shoed it has excellent emissions. Passed with flying colors. Only problems I've had is with its age showing. Bushes are starting to get worn so I have to start replacing them :P I got my remap for cheap from this doctor student who does it as a extra job. Got it for 600€. Would have been 400€ but I wanted to have the extra HP with ethanol that required better injectors. A dedicated garage that does remaps wanted 1400€ when I asked them. As long it is someone with experience and knows what they are doing it should be fine. Check the condition of the engine and you should replace sparkplugs and such as it can cause problems with knocking since the cars use sparkplugs to detect knocking with the ionizing module. I had to replace the engine ecu, ionizing module and injectors to get the remap to work with my 2004 model. I think he said after 2005 the ecu and ionizing module were different. Don't remember all the details.

+Torjus Birkeland I did it with a guy that lives in Linköping in Sweden. He took 6000 SEK for the job. Took a few hours. Maptun in Örebro wanted around 14000 SEK for the stage 1+ biopower conversion.

My first car, it is an incredible vehicle. It fell victim to electrical issues which constantly drained new batteries unfortunately. Besides that, it is quite possibly the greatest car i'll ever own.

+GustavLjungberg Response is late but go for a 05 if you can. It has changes done to them that the 04 didnt have. You get electrical seats. My 04 didnt have that even though it is a vector. If i had the money I would have gotten a 07 since they got a facelift and other changes.

I was looking at a 2003 9-3 linear with 98k for $3800 had weird problem, when driving at about 20 miles an hour i was slowing down for a red light so i threw it into neutral and was just rolling but the rpm stayed at about 3000 for a good 5 seconds or so after i put it in neutral. Could anyone help me figure out what could cause this because i want to buy the car? and I didnt have my foot on the gas just to clear that up

You shouldn't sit at red lights with the clutch in ,additional stress to the hydraulics and wear on the throw out bearing.
@EnginesandElbowGrease
@EnginesandElbowGrease 10 жыл бұрын
So many people have told me that, however, it is not true. I am an automotive service technician, and the amount of wear that it puts on the bearing in a 30-60 second period is minimal to none. It doesn't damage the hydraulic system at all. It is designed to take pressure. That being said, if you're going to sit for a while then yes, put it neutral and don't ride the clutch. But there is no sense in keeping it in neutral for 30-60 seconds to save on wear that is very slight especially when you have to take 5 extra seconds to put it in gear and start off from a light. People get annoyed behind you.
@seanjones2665
@seanjones2665 10 жыл бұрын
There is good reason for people telling you that, i have had my ASE cert for 25 years and neither one of those systems, more the throw out than the hydros are built with continual use as a goal they are systems that are built for short use, and if everyone drove standard the whole waiting 5 seconds wouldn't be a problem and there would be less accidents since everyone would have to use both hands and legs.
@EnginesandElbowGrease
@EnginesandElbowGrease 10 жыл бұрын
I like your point about less accidents. That's very true.

It's true I know you're up in Maine but around me in south jersey I could leave my car running doors wide open and no one would steal it because no one around here can drive a stick, true shame if you ask me.
@EnginesandElbowGrease
@EnginesandElbowGrease 10 жыл бұрын
My car would get stolen up here if I left it. Most people can drive stick up here. But seriously, more people need to learn how to drive a car for what it's all about. Driving a stick is driving FUNDAMENTALS. It's about as in tune you can get with a car.

+Joseph M so you wouldn't recommend getting one from like a auto auction because 9-3 sells for cheap on like craigslist I would prefer to buy from a auction because usually when people getting rid of a car it's been causing them problems and are Saabs high mileage cars like Honda and Toyota 4-500,000 mile cars?

where does the cold air come from.
@EnginesandElbowGrease
@EnginesandElbowGrease 10 жыл бұрын
There is a separation between the engine area and the intake. And the air comes in naturally through the inner fender. This separation helps the POD filter to draw in only the cool air from the inner fender area and not the engine heat itself. On my OBDII port diagnostic display, it shows that on a 70 degree day the air intake is bringing in air at the temperature of about 70-75 degrees F.

+American Pancake I bought a saab 9-3 2.0t with 180000 km on it. It had some problems initially: Caked up old oil in the rockercover, pcv valve was clogged, it was leaking oil everything. All those problems came from not doing oil changes in time even though the service intervalls were correct. Take off the rocker cover and see the condition of the engine. If it is black and has alot of build up. Do oil flushes and several oil changes in close succession and go over the pcv system and everything.

Dunno if you're still thinking about buying one, but my 2003 is at 218K. I've only had to replace the slave cylinder, hoses and water pump. All of those failed in the past year, so I'm chalking it up to general wear and tear -- and the car has been driven hard year round in New England its whole life. Dirt roads, salt, bad road patches, all that. My dad had a 9000 that he put 800K on and he was still able to sell it for more than what he paid. So long as you have an honest mechanic who knows SAABs, I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage. Solid cars.

+1esaus oddly enough I ended up buying a 92 Miata and it has been a damn good car. Only paid 2400 buck but had to about 700 into it fairly quickly. Fun to drive on the country roads in GA. Maybe someday I will jump into the Saab pool

+BLKRD_777 Mine isn't, in 4 years I only have had normal service and new brakediscs. Never failed me. You can buy a 1.8t: it saves you money. It's actually the same motor as the 2.0t and the 2.0T. Chiptune the 1.8t so the software sees it as a 2.0t and you will have about 205bhp instead of the standard 150. I did it with about 100k miles and still driving like a dream. It's smooth and silent but it has enough power to get forward. I did 0-60 in 7.5 sec on my second run. And I'm no racing driver.
