I like how this guy doesn't rip off Saabkyle04 and how he's completely honest while giving the tour. Yes, the W8 is a really awesome car, but it does have its issues.

I have a 2004 1,9 TDi (that has done 389.000 km/241.000 miles) and I'd say that in terms of durability it's somewhat below what VW normally is known for. The engine is without a doubt one of the best engines in history, but the rest of the car is not anywhere near VW's top 10 best cars. It's comfortable to drive, but a bit on the heavy side, so not very sporty (that might be different in the WITH). When it comes to durability and rust on the other hand, it's bad. Ours has rust everywhere (and has received PAVA rust protection 3 times) and there has been a lot of small repairs, especially the steering is notoriously bad.

I just bought a 2004 with 47,000 miles. Sweet and near perfect. Makes yours look very used. :) My W8 just feels solid. The entire car does. Can't wait to get it in the snow. I am a female and can say I LOVE this car and everything about it.

@George L Also a car enthusiast knows that any bigger engine like w8, v8, v10 etc, Is going to be more expensive to fix and run. That’s the problem with big engine saloon cars. You don’t do long distance in a Bentley then moan about the how much it cost. The same with Passat w8.

Wow it hurts to see this.... When your start an engine you don't rev it directly.... Let the oil get around the engine and protect it. And this engine is absolutely wonderful, just because it isn't noisy enough for you, doesn't mean that its bad.... The people that bought this car had european taste and did NOT want a big chunky American V8

always kinda had a love/hate thing with these passat. unique, rare and great to see in mint condition but the gen that replaced this was just so much better in the reliability AND quality department.

on reading the comments about electrical, have to agree there, just got mine sorted, it turned out to be something stupid and an easy fix, and everything works like it should, which isn't bad on a 15 year old car, most are caused by water ingress when the pollen filter gets clogged, have a look on-line there are some right good how-tos, explaining how to sort it.

Thinking about picking up the wagon version of this car. I have a b5.5 passat now with the 1.8T 5speed manual. It will definitely be an upgrade lol

it's amazing how much is the same as my bottom of the range 1.9 Tdi which would piss me off if i had bought the supposed luxury version, if you were spending the kind of bread it would have been new you'd go for an Audi. Mine is a 99 wagon and has done 216,000 miles and still gets mid 50mpg if you are careful which is good as fuel is more than $10 a gallon here, great car had it years still starts first time every time, which is good as i don't have any cash to replace it.

If you take the resonators out and weld the pipes back together the exhaust will sound like a super car. I love the feel of VW and Audi's MTs. They're so much more fluid and than my Subaru's hydraulic clutch.

Extreme Florida conditions, my W8 has no cracks in Australian conditions. 122 farenheit.

I also put a new stereo inside it and that's all the car needed, it's a complete package. Also on a v8 awd transmission is going to kick v8 rear drive ass.
