Most vehicles say they are lifetime. But no fluids are lifetime. Like my mom's jeep Patriot. Says lifetime, but I ended up changing it because it became noise for the CVT transmission. And it's a common issue. They have two filters on them. One in the pan that's more of a screen and one in the tranny sump above that has a small cartridge filter. Surpringly small. But without the fluid replacement they will burn up and grenade. If you get luckily it will fix the issue. Luckily I knew what the issue was and caught it in time. And they haven't had an issue since.

I love it! I once changed a head gasket on a 6th gen Honda at a convenience store gas station parking area (big flat area for deiseal trucks to fill up) , because it was so level compared to where I was living. I told the store "that's where I broke down, but I can have it done in two days." I had a head that was already resurfaced on the shelf and got it done in two, 5 hour days. Kudos to you on this one 👏👏 Doesn't look like a project I'd want to do Happy Father's day Ernest

I've put less than $2000 into repairs in all those hard driven miles. Biggest expense was the clutch at 200,000 mi. $800 parts and labor to have a tranny shop do it. Other than that I stay right on top of the maintenance and it's been one of the most dependable cars out of the many I've owned. Its fun as hell, I mash on it every day, and it just keeps going and going. ALL the bells and whistles still work perfect too! Cheers from Jackson Mississippi

Gotta be someone he can trust is competent enough to handle themselves alone in unknown mechanical diagnosis situations, gotta have a driver's license, be able to communicate effectively with customers, and for a small business probably need to be okay without healthcare, retirement, and other benefits of working for a bigger business. The design of cars these days...scary, and the technology keeps changing every season. Scares me to get something so gimmicky, sensitive and to have a whole bookload of 'Special Instructions' for just simple servicing. I can understand the material science and efficient use of resources, but some manufacturers have gone overboard and are just putting out products that are shinny but really are not upto the mark. I am all for computer engine management and transmission, but do we really need a computerized climate control? Or at least offer manual and computerized versions and make it so the modules can be interchangeable. They are trying to make the whole pakage as efficient as possible, but in the end it hits the owners pocket..real hard. What you save on gas, you pay out on parts and repairs. Henry Ford will definately turn in his grave if he saw cars of our times. Give me a 70's, 80's Mercedes Benz (my favorite), Audi anytime, but these new ones....scare me.

So many people say changing transmission fluid on a high mileage vehicle will be harmful to the transmission. I have seen a few real life examples myself. I am scared to have it done to be honest.
@reneantonio91
@reneantonio91 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah once the vehicle passes 100k I Am hesitant in recommending the service to the customer if they never got it before . The reasoning is cause the clutch packs in the transmission already wore out some and the friction material is mixed with the fluid now and actually helps it shift . so if you completely drain and fill it Sometimes it starts to slip since a lot of clutch material is gone . Some shops do have a machine that sucks some fluid out then puts some fluid in , sucks some fluid out , puts fresh fluid in. It’s probably the best option in my opinion since it’s mixing older fluid with the clutch Material with the new fluid
@glenjamindle
@glenjamindle 3 жыл бұрын
Fluid changing is different from fluid flushing. Flushing removes ALL fluid with pressure. This is where you start to have trouble on high mileage vehicles. Changing only drains some of the fluid and is the recommended way to go. You only drain about 40-50%, like Ernest did here. The trans holds a bunch that doesn't drain. Basically, you're just mixing new with old. I do that on every oil change on my Ford Escape with 160k on the clock.
