Yet another work-around to our no crank GM pickup issue!. Thank you!

1999 Sierra here, my no start issue was due to ignition switch not sending 12v to the pcm while in the crank position (but only when cold, never had an issue during the summer). I took it to an independent shop, who successfully diagnosed the problem. Shoutout to Denio Automotive in Phillipsburg, Ks! I had them bypass the issue, (instead of buying the correct but very expensive part) with a push button(leave the ign. sw. in the on position, then push the button to run the starter). This was after I had a dealership mechanic(on his own time at my house) replace the intake gasket, because he was "pretty sure" that's what's wrong, never did any other diagnoses. Then I replaced the crankshaft sensor, then the camshaft sensor. Hope this saves someone else some trouble.

Ty if it’s not my starter relay fuse I bet u have the answer to my problem. My truck 2001 gmc Sonoma SL is my work horse & im positive it’s not my starter. After a week no start like you but lights but no click, no noise , no start. Then I go out to check it out get in , turn the key & it turns over like nothing was ever wrong. Now I’m looking for loose ground to battery etc but nothing. Just replaced battery before 2 yr warranty I have had electrical problems but nothing unmanageable. I had one other car way back that I ended up hot wiring the fuse & installing a push button start on dash. Forgot all about it till I saw ur video. Great tip I’m sure to double check it. It’s started every time now but I feel better about knowing WTH ! Old Harley girl 👍

Thank you, trucks been dead 3 weeks while I swapped stuff out. While the jump didn't fix my issue, shoving the wire into the ground position of the relay did on my 2015 2500gas. That got it to turn over, shimming the ground on my fuel relay fired it the rest of the way off. Go figure 🤦🏻‍♂️

There is a bad ground wire that's on the top of the engine. It's the pcm ground. Basically the fix is to ground it to the firewall. You instead did it at the relay. So myself I'd just keep doing what your doing. There are a few videos out there showing the actual wire wire location

Also and don’t get me wrong I love your solution it’s working that’s what counts right? Main Objective get ur vehicle to get you from point a to B right? Yet another thing that happens is the chip in key for some reason another fails to read. By the bcm again remove the power VIa rely. there’s a solution you got a find a video on here I’ve seen it. you can reprogram the chip in the key. by turning the key on and off on and off four times and waiting five seconds in between each step. just a couple little things that I come up with that you might check. Then get that wire off of it and go back the way it was. if you’re ever interested in just checking it out. Great video I liked I subscribed have a great day. .

Good job, what I did was swap the fuse with the fuse ne to it and my 2005 started right up. Both fuses have the same ID numbers. I still have to buy new fuses..to replace the problem one.

My 02 Suburban just started no crank no start a week ago with voltage meter under 12 when i turn key to on. A few months ago it did the same thing i cleaned the cable from starter, terminal and connection worked fine for 3 months hope its not a bigger issue this time. Build up of oil leak and road grime

Well Todd, I'm having the exact problem, the exact problem on my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 liter z71. I've been combing everything in and out of the fuse boxes for about 2 months. I still haven't figured it out. I'm going to look at the ignition switch now, turn the key, and the instrument panel lights up, turn key to start, and nothing happens. It's a good thing I'm retired and live alone. This is not frustrating at all; it's kind of fun.

Update!! Son just called and the push button no longer works... new battery and the Sierra is back in action!!! He doesn’t drive it much at college and the old battery needed to be replaced.

My fuel pump relay is rapidly clicking with key in the on position, I took relay out and got wired my fuel pump. It’s just turning over. Any help is appreciated, tia

The key has to be turned to start to get fuel pump going. I’m having intermittent no crank , jump hot to solenoid with relay removed did work for a while. It appears that the connection between top of fuse box where relay would plug into and where the terminal blocks underneath are is bad .

Hey there, so we got a 04 Sierra 4x4 and switched out the Neutral safety switch. What a pain in the ass.. so-After finally getting this thing on.. no crank over Long story short- Watched your video- Trying the fuse made the engine start but not officially crank all the way over Going to try the park neutral switch and see what’s up. This has been a nightmare. Any other suggestions would be HELPFUL. 4 days in. OMG! Is it a ECM? A TCM? After installing a new NSS, do we HAVE to reset anything . I’m about ready to back this bad boy into a lake … 😮

Did you check the grounds if it was the problem

Good evening from Texas! K U D O S !!!! on your video. Very informative. I have the same problem with my 2007 Silverado 4.8 engine. No crank no start! Changed the acceralate pedal and throttle body. It started for several cranks but let it rest for awhile. Later it wouldn't start at all! Reset codes and added additional grounds (hood), clean all grounds and it cranked but no start. I tried it again but no crank. My last resort is to check all fuses and relay. Any suggestions? Shall wait for your response.

I may have to do what you did....to my 1999 chevy suburban ..

Any time I encounter electrical issues with theses trucks and vans I start at engine compartment I take apart every ground strap every body ground I hit em with a file and put copper based dielectric grease on each end. Fixes at least 50 or 60 % of em .there are numerous body to frame grounds on these that are allergic to exposure to road grime. A key ground that I've found FROM BOdy to frame on outside of frame under driver door.

OK - same situation on my '05 GMC Sierra. Seems like an ecm signal or lack thereof. Getting ready to wired the bypas, i went ahead and pulled the ECM1 & ECM2 fuses, and replaced. Could hear an audible reset. Jump in started right up BUT with reduced engine power - pulled negative cable, reattached. Cleared dash and started right up. Still not sure what the underlying issue is RE: ECM signal.

How did you ground and wire from the box to the ground and through to the cab sir.

Just wondering: could the fuse box panel have a break in it that's causing a partial (low volt) short? Or the feed wire to that particular ground wire is cracked perhaps? You've proven that the starter is good because you bypassed it with your very cool push button start. Electrical problems can be quite tricky to nail.

Kinda did this to my 92 gmc. In addition spliced a hot wire to a start button and to the solenoid incase something popped in the OEM starter wiring. Nice job!

Did the starter stay engaged and it start in accessory when you left it grounded before you put the start button on it? Is that the reason you did the start button? I'm having the exact same problem with a truck that I am working on. It was a 4.3 I put in a 5.3 and that is the problem I am having. Been chasing grounds and all that fun stuff for a week.

The wire your talking about that goes to the ECM is the signal wire for the relay. The ecm sends a ground signal to the relay which in turn closes contacts inside of the relay. Allowing the starter to crank over. Also you can just cross over the 12v constant pin out to the pin out going to starter. No need to run wire to battery. Either way good enough man

I was relearning tpms on 09 Silverado and half way through everything shit off acts as if battery is dead but all dash light come n stereo comes on lightbar etc just won’t crank or turn over any one have a suggestion on what it could be maybe anti theft mode

You could have just jumped 87 to 30 on the relay locations on the block. No need to run it all the way to the battery but this way works too. If you are driving you did it right... 😂. I'm in MI too. I feel your pain with rust

Does everything operate like it should? Because yesterday I did the wire to relay starter method so I could drive and the a/c wasn’t working and there was a big power loss from the engine.

I have this same problem, but then when it down finally start after letting it sit it starts up but then sometimes won’t go over 1000rpm and moves super slow any idea on why that is?

Had the same issue. Your ECM is toast. ECM is seeing the signal to start (evidenced by the fact that the truck will not start unless you turn the key to start position) but is not triggering the starter relay.

I have replaced every damn thing in my 2002 avalanche and tried all these tricks nothing works, bought a new brain still nothing I did the 3 10 min resets 20 times security lights off still wont work please help, my trucks been down 6 months noone can figure it out

On my 96 k1500 I’m getting 12.6 volts on only one of the posts for the starter relay. The other 3 posts read 0, what should I do?

Have a test light?, probably would have shown a bad fuse receptacle

I’m just curious myself but did by chance did you happen to check the air neutral safety switch? Because the weather all set up now rather than just the power to the starter in the ground because I basically need to crank the starter. What you have done here basically the same thing. They go through the BCM in the BCM has certain checkpoints and if one of those don’t clear then it removes a sorce to the starter via the relay.

i did this but just ran a 18 gauge cable from the relay to my battery, but now my abs light and brake light come on, as well as my ac not working and slow acceleration, like my transmission isn’t shifting, not really sure what the issue is. :(

04 2500 6.0 mine only does it occasionally, and when I eat mad at it and yell “start you piece of shit” it always starts after that.

Have you tried the GM computer relearn procedure? Some of your problems are similiar.

So I had a key made at Walmart just to be a door key… well it turns out that somehow it started my truck so I have been using that key for a week now w/o any problems. Today i locked my keys in my ignition and had to slim Jim in and push unlock button to gain access inside. After doing so I got in and my truck wouldn’t start. Just acts as if the starter don’t work but I know its fine. The security light is flashing now as well. If I run direct power to the 10 amp fuse inside it don’t try to start either. Just a ding from Interior. But if I run power to a spot where the relay goes it cranks but sounds real weird and don’t actually start up. Lots of info I know but I’m at a loss and stuck in some parking lot. Anyone with any ideas on this weird situation help me out? Already did the 3x10 min off/on deal to reset security but did t work. HELPPPP plz.

I did this a month ago. Push button start. No problems. I have an 06 Silverado 5.3. No codes. No security issues. Before and after the bypass. As far as the problem is concerned. It can be only 1 of 2 things. That ground to the ECM is broken or loose or the ECM is bad even thou there are no codes on the scanner.

I ran a wire from the relay ground to the negative terminal of the battery eliminating the need for an inside push button. This is only a test of the emergency I can't start my f'ing truck relay system.

Call me dumb I don’t care but explain the wiring to me like I’m 5. So one wire from the relay post to the firewall. Do you splice that wire into the cab? Cause I only see one wire from the relay which is green and one wire off your firewall which is yellow…. So where does the second wire come from???????
