Today we have a 2004 Honda Pilot 3.5l with a new fuel pump and the customer said it is a crank no start. Follow along as we try to figure out this mess. OEM pumps are indefinitly backordered at the time of filming. I called 6 dealers.

Good one! I get tired of AM parts, but I still use them (sparingly). When availability is so much easier/faster than dealer and plus some dealer parts discontinued or back ordered you end up with little options.

I also get tired of issues too. It sucks when you cant get something that at least works the way it is supposed to.

I’ve watched your channel, South Main Auto, Pine Hollow Diagnostics and Watch Wes Work and you all seem to have one thing in common lately and that’s crappy aftermarket parts. Now who gets the bill for your time changing out bad pumps? Also shows the importance of using a scope.
@RobertDotterer

Crappy aftermarket parts always cause issues. People do not realize that they are usually no where near the quality of an OEM part. Thank you for taking the time to watch!

How about the 2 dead holes in the beginning of the video you showed with the relative compresion waveform? The cranking sound suddenly beter halfway the video. Btw, i never exspected this outcome. Like it!!👌

I think it may have been from the car sitting for a few months or if someone was spraying something in the motor. We could have had washed out cylinders.

Rob another good one. I had a similar problem on my 99 Accord 3.0. The circuit board inside the relay the solder joints crack from heat and stress. I reflowed the solder joints and it’s working fine. Purchased a new relay just in case. Thanks for sharing Artie 👍🎄

Probably had about 3h of diag in this one because of the multiple issues. This took more than most.

The Delphi site specs show the pump draw for that application is 10A. Surprised the oem model is so much less.
@RobertDotterer
@RobertDotterer 2 жыл бұрын
I don't trust their site. If you look up just the pump I think it says 5amps then somehow the assembly shows 10a.

Rob thanks for sharing. Didn’t now the they are designed for ethanol. This relays are notoriously known to crack. You can just reflow the solder joint. I keep a spare relay just in case for my Hondas. Rob you still have your premium channel? I’ll check it out. Would like to signup for it Artie 👍

Does the aftermarket fuel pump consume more gas that it should ?
@RobertDotterer
@RobertDotterer 11 ай бұрын
If it did it would just return to the tank through the regulator. It wouldn't hurt anything.

@@RobertDotterer honda oem pumps are pricey too but seem to have a reputation for lasting, and if an unskilled technician fires the parts cannon on a honda fuel pump it's pricey. i've had it happen for a civic, $200 aftermarket, $600 used oem or $800 new oem. best to get a oem for that one from all youtube mechanics, so may as well listen.
@RobertDotterer

Oem is always best. I couldn't get a new oem one. They are indefinitely back ordered.
