BTW Fran, l really dig your white nylon strain relief (for lack of a better term) on your battery wires. Nice little touch. You can always tell when an actual user of a device is the designer of said item. Love hearing your muttering under your breath too. You sound just like me!

Its good to see someone actually play the instrument and show us, it annoys me when someone fixes a keyboard or something and refuses to play, even briefly and make lame excuses. I didn't know it was permissible to list your patrons from Fran Lab on another channel, nobody else does that.

I'd replace them one by one to see which one was the culprit, then maybe do some tests on it... Let's do some science here. Oh, and nice to hear that you used teflon insulated wires and conformal coating. Nice stuff :) Interesting thing about muting too. "Jellybean is not my lover..."

I noticed on a few of your videos fran you say you dislike the desoldering gun because it takes long to heat up. If you were to sell your current one and upgrade to a hakko fr-301, you would notice a massive difference in every way. It's my favorite tool to use, I fire it up every chance I get. The quality, factory support, heating is quick just a few seconds and Bob's your uncle!

Skip Simmons says the first thing he does before any trouble shooting is clean an amp. I've taken that advice for electronics. He said customers ask him what was wrong with their amp, and 80-90% of the time just cleaning it solves the problem, so he has no other answer for them.

If sockets are part of the original design, and quality sockets are used, then fine. For analog, at least. Digital has lots more leeway, but it's not universal either. I've often had to use contact whetting formulas when switching ICs in older sockets. Because replacing sockets often sucks, doubly so for high-quality sockets with stronger and heavier pins, which I view as being part of the PCB itself. In desperate situations I have been known to solder a chip into its socket, generally only as a last-ditch attempt to avoid long-term decommissioning of equipment (and the associated system) when complete removal for overhaul is the next option and spares aren't available.

Dont ya just love it when people bastardize your work! In addition to live production, instrument and equipment repairs l also build my own custom cabling. Stage power gang boxes, snakes, instrument/mic and speaker cabling. When l first started doing so, l gave out several units to local and regional musicians. This was to not only get feedback from the field, but also to spread awareness of my products around the working musician community. My designs are damn near bulletproof. With proper care they could last decades. Maybe even a lifetime. Certain colored flex covers, certain plug and device cover types and colors are all specifically chosen so that at a glance, one can see and know what it is and it's particular purpose, ratings and capabilities are. My designs are distinctive. They're not cheap to produce. Or purchasee for that matter. They're high end. Geared towards working musicians. My only caveat was that they don't dick around with them. Give me feedback on their performance. If their was ever any issues, bring em to me so l could investigate. And most of all, whenever someone took notice, give em my contact info so l could build a customer base. Sounds reasonable... I recently ran FOH for a band whose guitarist was one of the first people l ever did this for. I was surprised to see he wasn't using my cables. Upon closer examination, he was. He'd just SPRAY PAINTED ALL MY SHIT! I was furious! I didn't say anything at the time. My rule #1 is NEVER WRECK THE SHOW. But ad soon as they said "Thank you. Good night". I went straight onstage and started repoing all my cables. Two pedalboards worth of shorty patchcords, two pilot light switched 10/2 4 gang box AC cords w 30amp industrial plugs and recepticals, instrument and speaker cables. Were talking $500-$600 worth of cables! Dude was pissed. But SO WAS I! He broke the deal.
