There is a "fix" for this that no one is mentioning, but you are bypassing the shift lock entirely. Below the shift housing is the plastic lock, drill a small hole in the lock and use zip ties or mechanics wire to hold the lock in the "unlock" position. I used mechanics wire to hold it in place.

well couldn't wait,changed the shifter, works perfect, when u pull it up you'll see where the cable is attached, pry it off then snap it on to the new one,pry the keeper off the knob, tighten back down and connect the 1 plug..just like that saved $700

Or, you can snap off the little plastic locking tab under the shifter and never worry about ever getting stuck some where. Only problem is that you can move the shifter even if the car is off. I did it 6 years ago and never looked back.

thank you for this video simple fix i never would have figured out. All i do now if stuck in park with the engine running is push gear shifter forward as you so with out touching the ACC button simply push forward engine running hear or feel the click and than shift into gear wow. thanks again

Nooooooo! You don't need a new shifter!! Under the console panel and under the shifter is a little plastic toggle that engages the shifter until the car starts. If you drop the shifter in drive from park without a 1 sec delay from reverse to drive, the toggle sometimes will jamb. It's useless but a DOT cert. I lifted mine away and tied it off with safety wire. Or some guys will simply snap it off and throw it in the trash. FIXED! Save yourself $300....

Some people are just cutting off the plastic part that is holding it. It's over-engineering.

bought the shift assembly, $290 I'm going to put it in tomorrow hopefully trouble free for 2 more years and I'll let her go

It’s a crappy $3 micro switch located right on top of the shift assembly, replace it , not the entire $1500 shifter, or clip the plastic latch for free

having same problem on my 06, if mechanic can't duplicate problem should I just get shifter Solenoid replaced ?

ours doesnt lock with the key in it, and the shifter won't move if your seats are moving to their presets

I am having the same problem and this problem started after the recall of the active service center handling. Seems very odd that an 05 corvette with only 26,000 miles would need this type of repair. I think this issue is rampant with this model and should be covered by GM. Please voice your concerns to headquarters so we are heard 1.800.222.1020

I need to do this on my c6 I've had the console out a few times, is there another part where you show what's under the shifter after you remove the 4 nuts? Are there any special concerns? Dealer wants $300 labor
