My dad used to have a car as this. I did 1200km with 1 tank on highways. It was amazing and really efficient.

I love this car, I like how driving experience feels, this is my driving instructor car, but the 2.0 TDI (SDI) with 75 hp version, this car is very easy to drive

I'm learning now on a MK7 Golf Diesel with a high spec I think (it has an electronic speedo/tachometer) and some nice extras. Lovely car feels miles better than a 09 Corolla I practice on in the time between lessons. Looking at either a MK5 1.9TDI or an A3 1.9TDI for my first car. Leaning towards the Golf because I can get a nicer spec Golf for the money of a basic A3.

VW Golf MK5 was a good car. However it is prone to rust on the front wheel arches, the headlights fog up really badly compared to other cars, they get through more CV boots than is normal and the rear brake calipers are more prone to fail than other vehicles brake calipers. The good news is the 1.9 TDI is indestructible great engine, the electrics are generally very good, the manual gearbox is fine and overall reliablity is actually very good. CV boots are not expensive, the headlights fogging up can be prevented by polishing and waxing them every 6 months and even if fogged up can easily be fixed be sanding them and polishing them and then waxing them. The rear brake calipers whilst weak and more likely to fail you are probably only ever going to get this issue once so its not too big a deal. The rust issue is more of a cosmetic thing than a structural issue and they are many cars of this era that are far worse for rust including Mercedes.

Golfik 5 fajne autko. Dobrze się nim jeździ. Moja dziewczyna takie posiada też z silnikiem 1.9 tdi bxe i jest zadowolona. Ja posiadam Octavię 2 z tym samym silnikiem i też nie narzekam. Teraz teścik Octavii 2 by się przydał w fajnej wersji np. RS 😉
