Chicago White Sox 1 at Houston Astros 0, F -- This low-scoring nail-biter was Chicago's eighth straight postseason victory, and resulted in their first World Championship since 1917.

Funny how this series isn't talked about nearly as much as the Red Sox in '04. I can only imagine how exciting it was for the White Sox fans with such a long streak of their own.

SuperSparrow45 As a Sox fan ... the second half of the season saw a huge lead evaporate ...the Sox had a 10 game+ lead that got down to 1.5 games over Cleveland late in the season. Jose Contreras was 8-0 down that stretch to keep losing streaks from piling up. It was a great year, but August and September weren't all that great.

I'm a diehard, true blue, Cub fan and I rooted hard for the White Sox the whole postseason because I wanted Chicago to have a baseball championship. My hometown comes first. Sox had first pennant for the city since '59 and the first WS since '17 and while I couldn't work up the excitement I would for the Cubs, I was proud for Chicago. There were a lot of us, whom I knew, who felt the same way.

I'm a White Sox fan first, but I also root for the Cubs. I don't get why people have a problem with this. they're two Chicago teams who play in different leagues, and only see each other a few times a season. It's set up perfectly to like both. imo you SHOULD hope your hometown teams both succeed. I was happy when the Cubs finally won, and I hope I can see a cross-town world series once my Sox finish rebuilding :)

2005, what a magical year this was, for me, for Chicago, for the White Sox, and most of all for all Chicago White Sox fans. I was in England during this World Series, but that didn't stop me for enjoying this moment. I was 26 years old at the time, and was living with dread that I would never see the White Sox win the World Series. When I discovered the White Sox had won the World Series it was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, the joy I felt. Laughing like a loon, and yet tears flowing out of my eyes like a bloody waterfall. The White Sox winning the World Series in 2005, ended the 88 year drought, and it also exorcised the demons of 1919. I kept my promise with the Almighty when I vowed if I ever saw the White Sox win the World Series I would stop caring about baseball results. I have kept my end of the bargain now for eleven years going strong. Thank you, Chicago White Sox for the 2005 World Series from this life long White Sox fan. Go White Sox!

Great post. I was only 19 years old and got to watch it with my Dad who of course told me he's waited all his life for this moment. I remember after we were up 3-0 everyone just knew we were going to win, it was just a matter of waiting to see it happen. I felt very happy at the time but now I realize at only 19 I was pretty fortunate. It would be hard for me to stop caring about White Sox results... I put too much passion into it. I suppose that's healthy, right?
@spencerpalmer87407 жыл бұрын
Having passion about the White Sox is a good thing. I haven't lose my passion for the White Sox. Though I don't miss the feeling of like I need psychiatric help after my teams lose, in either sport, in the playoffs anymore. One of my best accomplishments is keeping my vow with the baseball gods if I ever saw the White Sox win a World Series, I made that vow in 2000. Come 2005 my wish came true. If I one see one White Sox World Series title in my life, fine. If they win more in my lifetime, great. Go White Sox, thank you for the 2005 World Series Championship.

July and August of 1977 were an exciting time to be in Chicago. Both the Cubs and the White Sox were in first place in their respective divisions and the city was abuzz about the first intra-Chicago World Series in 71 years. Sadly, in September, both teams folded (the Cubs ended the season 81-81 though the White Sox - who led the AL in batting that season - managed to win 90 games but in the highly competitive AL West Division, that was only good for third place) so the All-Chicago WS never happened. But it sure was fun while it lasted!

gameaddict51 Not sure if that's totally fair. I mean, I'm 20 and I've been to Toronto twice in my life. Once last year, and once when I was 2 or 3. I like them because I've grown up watching them. Sure, there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers in the Yankee and Red Sox fan club, but I believe that most of the people who pay to attend a baseball game and root for them are legit fans. I saw the Mariners play New York back in 2006. We were in the cheap seats, so we were surrounded by Yankee fans. There was a 4 or 5 year old kid behind me that would get so excited every time Melky Cabrera came up to bat: "Look mom, it's Melky! Melkyyy!!!" You can't help but enjoy something like that. Those teams have been around for over a hundred years; they have way more legit fans than bandwagoners.

Where did you get those stats? From what i read, the White Sox made headline BUT the Astros were supposedly the one's who killed the ratings, if anything the 2012 WS had the lowest ratings cause the Tigers turned into The Cubs and fell apart at the seams.

that quote from Tim says it all about the 2005 White Sox - "They can beat any team from any era of baseball" I agree, we went wire to wire, and 11-1 in the post season, 4 straight complete games, a sweep of the reigning champs Boston. the 2005 Sox are in the top 10 teams of all time
@TheCorrectAnswer569 жыл бұрын
So many great personalities on that team. I miss them all! Tim McCarver said it best: this 2005 White Sox team could beat any team from any era. Dominant starting pitching; strong, reliable bullpen with a shutdown closer; clutch and timely hitting; solid, fundamental defense; lots of speed; and a bunch of personalities that were all pulling for each other. Am I missing anything?
@SuperSparrow459 жыл бұрын
Ozzie at this best. He did well stirring the pot with all those personalities, but still had a ingenious plan and executed it to a "t". It's a shame that eventually his ego got in the way. I'm still holding out hope that Ventura can manage this 2015 squad to a playoff run. It's been 7 long, agonizing playoff-less years.

10/26/05 -- ten years ago tonight!!!!!! What a great memory for White Sox fans. My mom was 73 years old when her beloved White Sox won the 2005 World Series -- the first time that the Sox won the World Series in her lifetime. I am so thankful that this happened while she was still alive and before dementia took her mind.

This has a much better picture quality than the blurry video over at Stephen's Baseball Archives. 1:28:30 - Cute blonde in the stands mugs for the camera. 1:51:50 - No Astroturf in Houston, I see. 2:37:07 - The woman in the stands visibly saying "NO!" as Uribe makes the second to the last out of the 2005 MLB season. Upper left corner, to the left of the broad-shouldered man in the blue jacket with grey sleeves.
