Hey thanks for this great idea ,even though, it works for over a week, but , this approach inspired me to go beyond,, to break a slot in between the Heater core and a.c. evaporator , big enough to bring the blend door out and bring in, the new one, not to many parts to disassemble, just the blend door actuator and the box glove compartment, to cover the hole or slot done ,I did it with aluminum tape, very important thing ,is that ones the actuator is reinstall, make sure to process the relearning by switching on the ignition key, and press 3 times the left and center buttons on the HVAC cluster control unit, until this one's start to blink and stop doing it, then the actuator cluster will be re-set, I used an occilator tool, to cut the plastic chamber this job took me around 2 hrs to be done , good luck and, I hope this comment could help someone else...

Great video. I can get heat if I have the fan pointing to the face and feet directions and with the recirculate button pressed on. But if I switch off the recirculate and point the knob to the defrost positions - like defrost windshield and feet - I get just enough to warm the windows but not much interior heat. Does this mean my blend door is the culprit, or is it just a new thermostat that I need? Also my AC is on the blink. AC light flashes when I press AC.
@jeffkelly6362 жыл бұрын
Update - in case this helps anyone- for my particular issue (see my previous comment) the fix turned out to be a heater core flush.

I plan on doing this this weekend. I have no heat and I'm in Missouri, even inside is getting frosted. sooooooo I'm not surrendering much money on this..... so I have questions. looks like your didn't have to take over the lower panel where the fuses are, but did you have to remove the glove box on that? with the holes made, should I be sealing those up once propped open?
@Strmtrper67 жыл бұрын
Not OP but I'm doing this right now. You don't have to remove the glove box but there is a plastic panel under the glove box held on by two screws in the front and something else I can't find on the right side. I took out the screws and just pulled the plastic down and to the right. Seeing now that this panel is where the fan is located and how it wasn't sealed at all, I'd say those tiny holes won't matter much.
@weekley787 жыл бұрын
is the hole you drilled a few inches below the door? I drilled a hole and was feeling around in there with a metal file and couldn't find it. I am debating on drilling a larger hole so I can feel with my finger. I just don't want to go crazy making the hole too big.
@clintkinney95177 жыл бұрын
mike weekley drilling a bigger hole won't be a big issue. You can always repair it with cape or glue a piece of plastic back on there. You have to go way down with something more flexible than a file and pull it up. You will barely feel anything

Good stuff man. Why the hell did GM think that design was a good idea? Sigh
@conradkritzberger89805 жыл бұрын
It's not just GM. I have the same issue(s) with '89 Jeep Cherokee (Chrysler):: remove the WHOLE FRIGGIN' dash to replace the heater core. ( I still haven't done it.) Shops make $$Millions each year off of these mechanics' nightmares. In '82, had a '64 Barracuda with leaking core. Removed 2-3 screws to get the cover down; disconnect heater hoses; unscrew two bolts holding the core; install new core; close it up; reconnect hoses; fill coolant. I was done in an hour.

It may be laying flat down horizontally or up vertically. It has kind of a honeycomb look to it. It also has foam around the edge for sealing. You may not be able to feel it with your finger but if you stick something thin but stiff in there and poke it then it should break free.

Hey, great video... I was very excited when I found this... Living in Canada our winters are brutal and it's starting to get cold... I knew there had to be an easy (cheap) fix for this, and like you, I couldn't justify spending over $1000 to fix this... I sure as hell wasn't about to tear about the whole car either... I've drilled the hole in the exact spot you've shown, but I'm having difficult finding the door to push up... Do you just go directly straight up up right from that hole, and how much force is needed to move the door up? All I could find is a very stiff and thick metal wire that isn't flexible at all. I'm able to move it around in the hole but am not feeling anything that moves... I've been playing and punching the heat controls quite a bit since this happened and just last week I had a little bit of heat coming out, which I lost when I tried to get a little more... I'm hoping I didn't totally break off the door from playing with it too much...

They make a repair kit for these so there is no need to remove the dash. I'm gonna buy the kit and see how it works. I'll post a vid

I have an 08. May only be plugged heater core. But if it is the blend door, what is this kit you mentioned? Thanks!
@robertmedina31956 жыл бұрын
There is no 'kit' that is going to work to fix the door. One of the hinge pins gets SHEARED off by a bad actuator. Even if you replace the blend door it's only a matter of time before the actuator shears off the hinge of the new door. What you need is a new actuator and blend door. The only way you can change the blend door is by completely removing everything, there's no way in there without either cutting everything up or dismantling the whole front end of the interior.

+Robert Medina you obviously haven't watched peanutbutterisfu's video then? He goes into great detail installing the Doorman repair kit 902-600 .If you don't know what you are talking about, shut the hell up. Watch this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdpxiKSD16q0p2Q.html then go eat crow.

MrHemi4spd Hey dolt, I've done the actual repair so suck a fat one. Good luck with your kit. You lack the ability to fix a unicycle I'd imagine.
@robertmedina31956 жыл бұрын
MrHemi4spd it may be hard to understand that you've done a hack job. I've done a full, real repair including heater core. What you don't understand is why they break in the first place, it's a faulty actuator. The kit is basically the same hack done here but costing more money. It involves a hole saw LOL.

I have hit something, it's shooting out fluid. I think it's freon. Help
@clintkinney95175 жыл бұрын
You must have hit your evaporator coil. I said in the video it is very close to that so be careful. You will not have air conditioning in the summer. And I think you might have to drill another hole.

Tomika Snead it could be your heater core. You need to get it flushed. I have to do it again for the 2nd time this season. Mine isn't getting all that hot. After I flushed it the first time it was like a sauna.

You won't be able to actually see it unless you take it all apart. The door itself is behind the fan housing.
