Bought a 2008 2L 5 speed Tucson during Covid only 110,000km for AUD 7,000. Replaced gas struts on rear window for only $32 otherwise just changed full synthetic oil and filter every 10,000km. Currently 143,000km and still going strong!!!!

Amazing video I got a 2006 Tucson from my grandparents with 110,000 miles it needs breaks and tires but after that I’ll be driving it and I’m so excited especially that I grew up with the car because they were the only owner and I was 2 when they got it

Thats fantastic!! Brakes are fairly easy to replace and the parts are quite low cost. I'm a big fan of the value of Chinese tires, they're really good performance as well, so worth a look if you're on a budget or find some used tires on marketplace. Take good care of it, treat it well and it'll serve you a long time I'm sure! One thing I've learned over the 40+ cars I've owned, regular oil changes are critical, happy motoring and thanks for watching!

@@JTManOfGod I did, the parts are quite low cost, its not a terrible job, just time consuming, by far the hardest part is scraping the old water pump gasket, I missed some and had to do the entire timing belt a 2nd time to get it perfect.

Thanks for the video. Just bought a manual transmission. It was pulled behind a RV. The guy left it in gear while towing it. He replaced the engine but not the trans. It only has 89,000 miles. The replacement engine has 82,000. It's at the shop now waiting for the diagnosis. Probably going to need a trans. Thanks for sharing this informative video

Hey there! that sounds like a good deal! I'd be curious to see how many other cars use that same 5speed, I'd imagine you could find one pretty low price, likely used in a ton of cars! Happy trails!

I have the same car but 1 year newer (2007, front wheel drive, 4 cyl, 5 speed, bought new). Have had no issues. Just regular brake pads, 1 new set of rotors, oil changes, and 2 new batteries in 16 years! Finally need to replace front half of exhaust system at 280,000 miles!!! Note: I drive conservatively/carefully. I think that's key to its longevity.

Wow, thats pretty incredible, that is virtually nothing considering 280k miles!! Regular maintain is key, the value for money on something that reliable is amazing! imagine what a domestic pickup truck would have cost you to do 280k miles, or a Ford Explorer or something, endless repairs, thanks for watching and keep on saving the planet through reliable, cost effective,older Tucons!

Going to view and probably buy one of these this weekend, a 2007 2.0 diesel 4x4 with 129,000 miles. I'm in the UK and hoping for a good budget 4x4 (my first) and this has been pretty reassuring as far as build and interior space!

A diesel would be perfectly suited to this car, it could use turbocharged torque. Wow they sold it with a 5 and 6 speed manual which you probably have in the UK, that would be ideal! The build quality is pretty decent, I have a Terracan as well right now which I like a lot, best of luck on your purchase! thanks for watching!

I'm going to keep my 2008 2.0L auto bought used in 2019 as long as I can, took it from 105k miles to 145k so far. It has been in the shop many times for repairs and maintenance, but it's still been far cheaper to own than making payments on a newer vehicle. Issues I've had, for anyone wondering what the ownership experience may be like: Bad crankshaft position sensor (engine randomly stalled while driving or wouldn't start), bunch of failing suspension parts, bad speedo ground wire (speedo, odometer stopped working), no passenger heat (system flush fixed it I think), a/c needed recharge twice, starter died, ignition switch went bad (starter sometimes engaged when key was in run position with trans in park or neutral, even if engine was already running), catalytic converter was stolen, exhaust pipe went bad, cruise control set switch went bad, TPMS light on with no cruise (system reset fixed this so far), headlight housing went bad (intermittent wire, headlight would go on and off, both housings replaced), HVAC fan speed knob is getting very hard to turn. If the engine and transmission weren't so rock-solid reliable, maybe I wouldn't have bothered getting all of these issues fixed. The roomy interior and roof rails have been great for camping trips. The rear opening window is a handy feature, something that is not available on many other SUVs. I use it all the time.

Very interesting! sorry about having your Cat stolen, it is quite exposed under there! I found the same with mine, the electronics are of average quality, no worse then an american Car though. The drivetrain though is pretty decent and reliable. Higher mileage cars do need the love ,most of the things you mentioned sound pretty standard replacement on a Domestic car (in my experience) with the crazy price of new cars, a lot less expensive to keep the Tucson running, especially if you can complete some of the repairs yourself. Thanks for watching, and your comment, I can appreciate someone who understands value!

I have a 2006 Tucson limited, 2.7L, 4x4 and I absolutely love it. It has 189,xxx miles, Automatic unfortunately I wish it was a manual, but hey it runs and drives so I really can’t complain. It needs a few things to pass New Hampshire state inspection like exhaust leak at the cat back flange, some bushings in the front end but other than that it’s not rusted for being a New Hampshire vehicle.

Very nice! I think the V6 and Auto are probably the best combination. To be truthful, the manual with all the rev hang isn't the most satisfying manual transmission (by trying to make it easier to operate they made the fun level a lot lower), the 4cyl is a bit coarse and harsh as well, Sounds like it won't take much to pass inspection, I had to do some welding on the flex pipe on this one as well. thanks for watching!

I paid £370 in the UK for a road legal (MOT’d) 2005 4x4 Tucson with 140K miles on it. Amazing value. Unfortunately the diesel engine dies without warning and sometimes refuses to restart so it’s not 100% reliable, which is why the previous owner sold it - after spending thousands on new parts keeping it on the road in the past couple of years. I haven’t figured out what’s wrong with it yet, I have replaced the camshaft position sensor but that doesn’t seem to have fixed it. Like you I had never really paid attention to these cars before but I am very impressed with the design of the car, so many thoughtful features like the flat fold seats and the air vents in the doors that demist the side windows. I am using it an an off road runabout on my property and it swallows chainsaws, tree stakes and the like. It’s too good for that really and I’m tempted to put it on the road, but the insurance and tax would cost me £50 a month so it’s not really sensible to do that as I don’t really need the car for transport.

I hade to get a new car as soon as possible, I need space to carry all my work materials but don't have a big cash flow to feed a V6 properly. Found a 2006 model for 3,175$US, had to fix the transmission seal, head gasket seal, replace some bushin and a power steering leak. It's a auto/manual but the manual part doesn't work, still scratching my head on that one. The ride is a little too soft for my taste so I have thought of lowering it, don't know if it's a good idea.
@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo 3 ай бұрын
Hey nice job! its a tough market out there for used cars, you have to sometimes take what you can get! I didn't love the ride quality either, but its hard to justify changing anything on a car like this that isn't already broken. Lowering things usually just makes it worse, and if you're hauling tools in it, I'd leave it at standard ride height! I love manual transmissions, most cars that are automatic with manual change option, I never end up using it. I hope it stays reliable for you, enjoy the summer!

What's my Tucson experience? I'm just checking out my "family history" My last two vehicles were/are both Tucsons... 5 years ago I purchased my first Hyundai, a 2018 Tucson... loved the SUV, no problems ever, simply loved it. Then, I saw the redesigned 2022 Tucson and fell in love all over again, had to have it... but, I wanted the Hybrid, due to the current market, Hybrids ate hard to get... had to put it on order and wait 5 months, but I finally got a 2023 Tucson Hybrid and it's simply an amazing vehicle! Now for fun, just looking up older Tucsons and seeing how the family tree has evolved over the years.

@@Kingsoupturbo Sensor #1 failed about 2 years after I bought the car. The second sensor failed about year 5 if I remember correctly. A friend scanned the codes for free but I think it would cost about £80 ($100) and the sensors were around $100 each. It has been a mega reliable car and I don't know why they get a bad press. Everything works as it should - electric windows, sunroof & heated seats. I'm going to keep it as long as I can - the timing belt needs to be done for the third time soon! Enjoyed your video.

I myself am considering buying a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. Almost all the models available here in South Africa has rather high mileage/kilometres, however that does not scare me that much as these cars seem to be built like tanks. The only thing that I am not particularly fond of is the lack of parking sensors, but that is not enough of a concern for me to not buy it.
@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo 7 ай бұрын
Hey there, the only issue I found was really all the sensors made by Hyundai for the airbag system, the mechanical seems pretty good. I can't speak for the V6 and 4wd models though. Backup cameras are pretty easy to put in, and parking sensors for that matter if you wanted. Best of luck in your purchase! I sold this Tucson in fact to a family who had moved here recently from South Africa, as they had bought my Dodge ram before this as well.

I had a same problem with my 2007 Hyundai Tucson 2.0,it took me 2months to figure out what was the issue with a 10 amp ROOM L fuse which was burning and affect a lot of things,the problem was a sun visor wire which was a little bit cut open and touching the body,i just put insulation tape on it and the problem was solved,it might not be the same problem on yours but I'm definitely sure there's an exposed wire which is touching the body,give yourself time to look for that and be patient about it,you might be lucky like me

@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Prices are so dependent on vehicle condition, and what pricing is in your area. Used cars are in generally short supply lately so stuff is really expensive. If its been maintained well, looks good, drives well, its probably worth it. I almost never do it but I super recommend having a mechanic do a check over before you purchase, it'll tell you a lot, previous accident, leaking seals, worn out front end. (the steering rack on the 4wd is really hard to change for example) Its a pain to get the inspection, but it'll tell you everything, even if you're a decent mechanic yourself (as I am, but I've failed many times on pre purchase inspections) best of luck ! (BTW the V6 4wd come with a lot of stuff the FWD don't, leather, heated seats, side airbags built into the seats, and a fair bit more power)
