@R L from my experience they are like the others, there's almost no electronic so less problems from that. In terms on build quality you feel everything, which means the road under your butt or the squeaks the car makes, and the radio is kinda useless cause the engine covers everything. I own a 2005 Elise and I love it. I loved driving before I owned it, now I REALLY love driving. Mine has a BOE REV-400 Supercharger that puts it at 305hp and it can do 0-60 in 3-3.5 seconds. It's just insane. I've owned it since November 2020 and I've already put over 10k miles on it. Pure joy, elation, and love for raw driving.
@kvgbui565
@kvgbui565 3 жыл бұрын
Just my curiousity, Could we really use Lotus as daily drivers?
@GothDeathrocker
@GothDeathrocker 3 жыл бұрын
@@kvgbui565 I actually HAD to use mine as a daily between November and March because my daily had to have a new motor installed. The Elise does not like the rain or snow, but it's not like it just doesn't function, just not very well; drive slow, obviously. Even with mine being a performance beast, I can still get 30mpg with 91 octane fuel, although the 10 gallon tank limits your distance you can cover without having to refuel. The worst part of daily-ing her is when I need to do simple tasks - so anything that requires a lot of getting in and out of it starts to hurt, traffic is a killer due to it being a manual and pressing the clutch starts to wear down my left leg after 15-20 minutes of stopping and going, and overall space is lacking but it isn't bad if it's just you - I can fit all my stuff I need for my daily duties and I own a restaurant. The only other downside is cost of repairs and finding someone that would actually touch the car to work on it because most mechanics don't have a clue about it - most people don't have a clue about. I get "what is a Lotus?" as a question far too often, or, "who makes Lotus?" So make sure you have someone to work on it BEFORE you buy it - unless you're going to DIY the repairs. Even after all of that, the drive to and from work is a smooth dream for me. Taking curves at higher speeds than normal cars can do, taking off on straight stretches, and when I have the top off I just wave my arms in the wind going 80-100. I don't see myself ever wanting anything else.
@kvgbui565
@kvgbui565 3 жыл бұрын
@@GothDeathrocker Oh, I can live with the majority of the disadvantages mentioned above, but I live in city which will definitely make driving a manual become a punishing experience as you said. Guess I should take a dct M2 instead Btw thanks for sharing your interesting experience with me, it helps a lot.

I've got a 2006 one, the lower power spec than this even (which wasn't sold in the US). Loads of fun :D I did use mine as a daily for months. It's ok if you don't need to carry much and your route is mostly quiet countryside roads. Not in winter when there is salt on the road. They are also quite loud so if you are doing long trips you'll need earplugs if you don't want to go deaf.

Good lord, what a beautiful sound that 2ZZ makes. Having driven this, though (and I see some others have already mentioned this), I'd be curious to see if you could get your hands on a properly sorted 2ZZ swapped MR-S to do a bit of a head-to-head comparison. I have to say though I like the sound that engine makes in the Celica and Corolla more pleasing. But that's personal preference, it's more screamy which can be a turnoff but you hear the individual bangs more than just a constant flow if that makes sense.

omg im so in love with the interior design of the lotus elise cars generally speaking but also specifically this one, its so minimalist and retro feeling gosh i feel so cozy just looking at it, it doesn't try to look like a crazy spaceship or anything futuristic like alot of modern sports cars like lamborghini or mclarens try to do, even tho i admittedly like futuristic car designs alot but this elise design is so reminiscent of like an analog tv or analog radio design with the simple looking knobs and smooth solid color surfaces

Back in the day I was buying a car I came across a grey Elise and after I checked out I was a minute away from buying it. It was used but it's simplicity, the aluminum tub, the stick, and the rear reliable toyota (mr2 I believe) motor behind you. Beautiful reliable and super super scary fast WITH that classic lotus handling. I loved lotus so much back then I even owned a delorean which was the first car I ever restored. The guy I bought it from ( I was maybe 22) told me I'd never get it running. I soaked the injectors for 3 days and it started right up... However 😳 after restoration when I took that car on I95 (of course I tried to reach 88 mph) it started to shake so violently I became scared. Nothing was wrong with the steering mechanics or suspension either so it just became a showpiece in my garage. On the road? It was a stainless steel exotic coffin!

I'm Lucky enough to have an Elise and an 08 S240 Exige. Both rev and sound SOOO good. I have recently put the remote reservoir Penskes on my Elise, and yes, the ride is so comfortable for what it is capable of! Also, a man after my own heart.. upshifts on boring straights/traffic, a corner means DOWNSHIFT TIME!! lol

For reference on age limits on owning an elise, my neighbour had a first gen elise until recently, was probably 80 when he stopped driving it, and just sold it at 90 after having it sat in his garage for 10 years. I think he sold it with around 8k miles on so was pretty special

I love the motor I have a 03 matrix xrs with the same motor and it's fun even tho it's much heavier than a lotus of course but still fun and the sound of a 2zz specially when it hits lift is sick

This is my FAVORITE sports car. I've loved this car since it came out. It's kind of like a souped up Miata. Yeah, much like what you said at the end. I believe cars will soon not be be though of like how we think of cars now, but rather "personal transportation appliances" They will be regarded just as your fridge or dishwasher might be.

Today we have a toy between us. Not a toy for children or sensitive drivers, but a toy for really men....and women. This artefact is a serious toy, designed for pleasure and only pleasure. WoW. Thanks a lot for this gift for senses!!!!
