The champion played it off as if he slipped when he went down early in the 1st round. The ref agreed, but Somsak knew it was a knockdown. I replayed it and Somsak caught him on the point of the chin, albeit just clipping him a little. Somsak immediately backed off and walked away. When a guy lands a punch and knocks the opponent down, by instinct he'll back away indicating that he knows a punch landed. Some guys will do an acting job, but instinctively backing away looks different. The champion sort of tipped his head at the ref, as if to indicate that he slipped, doing a god job of selling the act. To his credit , Somsak said nothing;.......but he knew it was a knockdown. Most guys would have said something but Somsak just ate it and kept going.

CB W,...It's about impossible to tell what happened in regular speed. I slowed it down and bumped it along, I checked it several times. Somsak threw a short left hook so fast it's hard to catch it, and it landed on the chin of Monshipour. At the time that Somsak landed that quick hook, Monshipour's left was cocked high and he was just ready to bring it down. He got clipped by a punch he didn't see ,....which surprised him and broke his momentum and balance. He began going down before he fired that left, verifying it wasn't a slip. I watched it many times because I like to see if the referee made a good call or not, and in slow motion ( 0.25 speed ) I can actually see the champion's head snap and move a little. I might have said the same as you initially, but after seeing it land and the head movement ,...I know for sure. Another sign is that Monshipour's left fist followed through even though he got clipped, and he missed the punch by a foot or more. Had he not been hit, there's no way he misses a left hook by a foot in such close quarters..Thanks........

If only i could see the original resolution. Because this is a great underated fight. That is not ez to find.
It was long time ago but it brings back a memory of sugar Ray and Roberto Duran the boxer and the brawler going head to head toe to toe the point you have to look at is does the judges look at the brave brawling or the way score points but we as people like to see as good old slug out to the end

There was a bad sign for the champion in the very first round. First, he went down when he threw a wild punch that missed. The ref called it no knockdown,..but he was wrong. I thought it was strange that he went down only because he missed a punch, so I watched the replay a few times. Somsak actually clipped him on the point of his chin as he was throwing that wild punch, causing Mayhar to go down. The punch was enough to knock him off-balance and combined with the wild swing he made at Somsak,......down he went. Then, soon after that,.....Somsak gave him a little push, knocking him back and making him look awkward. Finally, the official knockdown came. It was one of the strangest KO's I've seen. Just as Mayhar threw a big punch, Somsak timed an uppercut and caught him square under the chin. The reaction was the strange part. It looked like it was time delayed, as Mayhar seemed to hesitate,... as if trying to decide if he was hit hard enough to go down. It was like a tornado after shock. When he went down, he began going back and built up speed such that he couldn't stay on his feet. Starting the 1st round with those 3 incidents was a sign of things to come, because Mayhar had successfully defended his title about 7 times before this fight and nobody expected him to lose. Somsak put on the best display of a body attack I've seen. He stayed committed to the body throughout the fight, and after the first few rounds, you could see it was paying off. Mayhar is impossible to stop,....but the body punches by Somsak did slow him down, and he became a little hesitant at times. After each body shot late in the fight, the champion grunted and backed off briefly, so they must have been getting to him. Both guys did great, but I was really impressed with Somsak and his refusal to stop throwing so many body punches. In one of the later rounds, maybe the 7th or 8th, the champion was having a good round. He landed many hard punches to the head, but Somsak returned fire almost exclusively with body punches. I've not seen that before, usually a great body puncher will respond with head shots if the opponent is landing a lot of punches to his head. A great fight, more action then 99.5% of all fights.

CB W,.........Where in my response do you see an assumption being made? I said that I watched it several times until I knew what happened. Show me where I said it looks like it landed, or I think it landed, or I'm pretty sure it landed. My words were that he got clipped on the point of his jaw, which caused him, to go down. Is that what you think an assumption is? You're making the assumption that the punch missed, and that Monshipour went down from a slip. I'm glad that you're not the referee, I never make a definitive statement until I'm sure, even if I have to check it 10 times. If I still can't be sure,..........I'll say I can't be sure. Did you replay it over and over and in slow motion, until you were certain that no punch landed? You couldn't have, unless your eyes are bad because I see the punch clip the champion on the point of his chin, I see his head react by a quick snap and movement. You must be guessing based seeing it once at regular speed . You should be careful accusing me of making assumptions, making that assumption in the process, therefore pointing out your own error. If your arguing that it appeared to be a slip in real time, then it should be called that way,.....that's an ignorant statement. Obviously the referee has to call what he sees, or thinks that he sees,I didn't accuse him of lying nor making a bad call. The punch landed too quickly to criticize the referee for missing it. I stated that he was wrong, and he was wrong. There's a distinction that you're failing to recognize. If a punch landed by Somsak, and the ref says no punch landed, then he's wrong. It's not a careless mistake, it's understandable, but he was still wrong. You criticized me for saying the punch landed, I'm only stating what I observed for the benefit of another that may be curios. It could result in a little debate, which is the reason that many come here. Too many on this blog are disrespectful and use vulgar language, insulting people they don't know that usually know more then the blowhard. Try being polite,..it doesn't hurt a bit and it's free of charge.
I could hardly believe what I was seeing. How they weren't both punched out within the first couple rounds is beyond me. What a fearless pair of warriors, I love the mutual respect too.

In the 1st round alone, I counted that Somsak threw 153 punches. That's probably the highest output in one round that I've ever seen.

Mickey Ward vs Emmanuel Burton, in the 10th round the announcer says that ward threw 175 punches. This would prob be number 2 tho for sure lol.
