2006 Tahoe Muffler Delete DIY Exhaust

We cut the muffler out completely. Left the stock cats, and it sounds pretty good. Actually not too loud. Thought it was going to be much louder, so we may change out the cats later. This took about 10 minutes. Sounds so much better!

Nope. Still thinking about running pipe out the back, but it has been fine. So maybe not.

It "should" smog doesn't have to do with sound, as long as you leave the cats in. Ive done it many times. However! It is modifying an epa regulated exhaust- so, a cop could give you a ticket other than the noise level. Depends on the cop. Cheers-D

I want to do the same with my tahoe! Technically can I just cut it off and its good? Or should I at least straight pipe it? I'd much rather just cut it off and be done.

@@boratwilson9916 Correct. But actually this is not too bad on this Tahoe. Doing it right would be to add pipe out the back. This was just a cheap hack.

Just showing what we did. : ) I am sure there are opinions and facts on what is right and wrong. We figured we were going to have to cut it to change the muffler anyway, so we just sent it, and like the way it is.

Yeah them 5 3's are pretty quiet unless you delete the cats.

Muffler doesn't affect smog test. Cats are still in place.

We could have. But we left the extra couple of feet to keep the noise farther to the back and the hanger to support the pipe. Intention was to add more pipe, but we like it so may not add the extra.

Nope. The sound is louder this way from the sound waves hitting the ground and the underside of the suv. Plus shorter pipes means less of that nasty clapping exhaust sound
