Very helpful video. I removed my 2007 highlander hybrid back seat and battery and found the service hole was not there. Oops, realize I have to remove the fuel tank to get it. Thanks.

I have a hybrid with rear transaxle/differential with bad leak. Bought a used one to replace but mounting bolts are inaccessible so considering dropping gas tank for access.

Is it possible to replace the filler hose to remove a plastic gas can peice that broke off in the filler line.

I've been considering doing a full fuel pump replacement on my 2006 Hybrid Highlander. My Highlander runs rough on a hill and is a bit rougher than normal at other times. I can't quite figure out any other reason for this, mind you my mechanical knowledge isn't amazing. It's mainly rough while stopped on an incline with engine still running, like at a stoplight/stop sign for example. When the nose of the car is higher than the backend. Do you think a faulty fuel pump/clogged filter would be the likely cause of this? And are there any other reasons why it might be rough while stopped at an incline with engine running?

I think from 2007 onwards Toyota changed to the removal of the back seat method.

I'm not sure what that means, you're saying after 2007 there's an access panel to the fuel tank?

I wonder if you can cut open an access panel under the back seat to be able to access the fuel pump. You could rivet little ears on the piece you cut off so you can sheet metal screw the panel back on after you're finished with the fuel pump,/ fuel filter service.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can definitely do that. Just have to be ultra careful about where you're cutting. I've seen many people do it. Of course in the professional shop that wouldn't be acceptable though. But if it was my own car I think I would do it. Especially if you're using an aftermarket fuel pump

Wow! Thanks for the reply with the information friend. Yes this is for my own car. I don't care to drop the tank in my driveway that doesn't sound fun LOL. I was thinking to drill a hole, and use sheet metal Clippers, then when I have the whole big enough I was thinking to rivet ears on so I could sheet metal screw it back on.

@@judeghazaleh6134 no problem man, and yeah that sounds like a good plan. Just make sure not to drill a hole in the fuel tank! LOL I've seen it done before

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow yeah I can imaging a mushroom clowd in the driveway lol. I was thinking a half inch hole saw is slow, can keep far from any gasoline on an empty tank, and should be large enough to get some tin snips started. Thanks for the reminder, I know gasoline can be highly volatile and dangerous.

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow sorry to bother but I just have a quick question. Can you describe in words how you took out the Center seat? I can see bolts in front, but I can't see any in the back, does the back of the seat just hook in, or is it also bolted on?

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow The service manual says to remove the center exhaust pipe and floor heat insulator NO. 3 to access the tank strap bolts. I was hoping not to have to deal with the exhaust pipe. It looked like you didn't touch the exhaust pipe in your video. I know it's been over 3 years so you probably don't remember but I was just wondering if the service manual was being overly cautious and the strap bolts were easier to access than they thought. I haven’t had a chance to crawl under the car to check.
@arlo2048
@arlo2048 3 жыл бұрын
Okay I just crawled under and checked it out. The heat insulator partially blocks one of the strap bolts but it should be easy enough to get a swivel extender in there to remove the bolt. The other 3 strap bolts are very accessible. Thanks for posting the video I think I should have no problem replacing my fuel pump with the guidance you provided.
