Grant Hatcher True but this isn't another average player who is hurting for chips or playing his first five figure buy in event. Joe Hachem's already won millions and is also one of the big stacks that day, Joe had nothing to lose to try and help this guy fold. It was also the last hand of the day, they're not going to be seated together on day three if you were considering whether or not they were putting that into consideration.

People have exaggerated how badly he played over the years because he is probably the least likeable main event winner of all time and isn't a pro. And yes, he ran hot, and yes he did not play particularly well But he was cool under pressure and was very aggressive, which is how you would have to play in order to win in the absurdly crowded field that year. Even when he was acting nervous it looked more like literally ACTING nervous. Most people when they're nervous, will stonewall so as not to display emotion, or they'll sweat or their hands and voice will tremble. Or they'll speak with a different tone in order to mask their feelings There are a million tells that an amateur would normally give off in a big bluff, but Jamie didn't really display any of them. And yes, he literally told Friedman that he had the right read, but Jamie's image as a schmuck means that he could easily be saying the opposite of the truth. His speech play was pro level, IMO. He was cocky, but not a bully like others that go too far. He would lie often, but also show hands to make himself seem more honest. He was clearly in the zone. He didn't just get lucky, anyone can get good hands, but truly bad players can easily flush all the luck in the world down the toilet. And because his range was so wide because of his bluffing he was able to capitalize on the early big lead that he established, so even pros had a hard time reading him Plus, as lucky as he got, he played his chip lead well. He knew that each individual player wants to place as high as possible to increase their bounty. So even though I'm sure they knew sometimes they were being bluffed, the possibility of outlasting everyone else but Gold provided a great incentive to fold. After all, by the final table it must have seemed inevitable that the best you could hope for would be 2nd. Jamie used that to his advantage to isolate people in 1 vs 1s with his ludicrous raises I think Friedman (first hand between them in the vid) played the flop and the turn badly, but I don't think the laydown at the end was outrageous at all. But hey, if you're 1-on-1 w/ the chip leader who is running hot, and you're in a tourney for the biggest prize in WSOP ME history, I can understand why Friedman played it safe. It's very easy to play armchair poker pro, but these guys have won more bracelets and, more importantly, made more money through poker than most KZfaq commenters ever will
@88mphDrBrown

@@MrCyberboobs I agree with most of what you said. I just think he was significantly less skilled than most pros, and yes Friedman played badly against him. I care a lot more about skill than likeability, I like Will Kasouf. Also he should be liked, Jamie has raised over 400 mil for charity, there's tons of scumbag pros. He did play the big stack exactly as it should be played and he played with balls, he constantly put people in tough spots.

Such a tight fold by Wasicka there. Zero chance you’re dead with a monster draw to the nuts. I think he had Binger covered so he had a 66% chance to go all in and get 2nd rather than 50% by folding. He triples up there and it gives him a much better stack vs Gold
@Joel-js2gk
@Joel-js2gk 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Based on how the hand was played the most likely scenario is Binger has an overpair, and Gold could easily have a bigger flush draw or Tx of spades. Even with his AT I'm not sure Binger folds if Wasika calls the shove, if he had an overpair he definitely would not fold. If that's the case he's drawing very slim, it's easy to say seeing the hand Jamie actually had, but even with how loose Jamie was playing it's next to impossible to put 34 in his limp-calling button range. If Binger had checked then I'd agree it's a bad fold but given the strength he'd shown, it was very likely he already had a made hand that he was not going to fold, and like I said, when Binger has a made hand and Jamie has a bigger flush draw Wasika is in pretty terrible shape.

@@Joel-js2gkyou're wrong. Even if we give Jamie ATss and Binger QQ, the odds are virtually a 3 way coin flip (Jamie 34.44%, Binger 33.11% and Wasika 32.45%). Wasika called the raise to try to hit something on the flop. If his 7-8 is not suited, he doesn't call. HE HITS EXACTLY WHAT HE'S HOPING TO HIT: A FLUSH DRAW. Gotta go with your initial reasoning and call there...he still might have not beating Gold...but I'm cramming there, no doubt.

I understand Paul's inclination to fold the 87ss and coast to 2nd place but with the massive chip lead that Jamie had folding there was essentially surrendering a chance to actually win the tournament. He had like ~10% of the chips after Jamie won that hand, he'd have had to run super pure to win if Jamie won that hand. You have to call there and have a chance to bink the triple up if you actually wanted to win the thing.
@Joel-js2gk
@Joel-js2gk 2 жыл бұрын
If Jamie had a bigger flush draw, which he's going to have a lot of the time, you wouldn't be saying the same thing. Binger raised pre when he could've checked then led out on the flop, it looks a lot like he has an overpair that he's not folding, I'm not even sure he folds the AT if Wasika calls. If Binger has a made hand that he's not folding and Jamie has a bigger flush draw, or if EITHER player has Tx of spades, Wasika is in bad shape. It's always easier to say seeing the cards that he should've called, but even given how loose Jamie was playing I would not expect him to limp-call a 4bb raise with 43. It's a really gross spot and I don't blame him at all for folding.

I agree. You flop the world and surely know you arent going to get a chance like this with a healthy stack heads up at the Main Event. I believe there are just too many outs and why play the 78 at all if you are just gonna fold after this flop? Imagine had Paul called the roller coaster that ESPN would have gotten with Jamie celebrating first, then Paul after. That would have been a better TV moment. In this case the prize pool got in the way and lead to altering the course of history, perhaps.

Not always. There was 3 people left. He was pretty much making sure he made an extra million plus dollars by just getting out of the hand. During normal play early in a tournament...yes he should always call, and during cash games. Final table play for so much money is different tho. For example, if I had AA and there was 5 people left in tourney, and 3 people just went all in ahead of me and the biggest stack at the table called all in and raised me allin, I would consider folding AA just because folding guarantees me a large money ladder and it could not be worth the risk against 4 players all in when the difference is millions of dollars

@c_s_b_9_4
@c_s_b_9_4 3 жыл бұрын
It's tough. Folding guarantees you're still in it, and if 3rd gets knocked out, you'll be heads up, where anything can happen. Best case scenario is you call and beat both guys and almost triple up, but it's far from a sure thing. Even if you hit one of your draws, you can't be sure a straight or a flush wins it, with possible higher flushes out there. Pretty likely to win if you hit, but not guaranteed (unless straight flush of course). After flopping a straight flush draw, the known likelihood of hitting a flush (no straight flush) is 30%, straight (no straight flush) is 17%, and straight flush is 9%. Got those numbers from the math below vvvv. So there's a 30+17+9 = 56% chance of probably winning, and a 9% chance of definitely winning. Meaning it's almost a coin flip to possibly get knocked out in 2nd, or to lose to 3rd place and be the short stack. Versus 100% of continuing with a solid stack, potentially heads up, if you fold. Chances of a flush (but not a straight flush) after flopped S/F draw are: (7 remaining cards to hit) / (47 unknown cards) + 7/(46 unknown cards after turn) = 30% Chances of a straight (not straight flush) are: 4/47 + 4/46 = 17% Chances of straight flush: 2/47 + 2/46 = 9%

Actually against most of the holdings between the two opponents Wasika isn't fairing that well, He has to figure he is behind and not only might some of his draws be dead like the non straight flush flush draw but with two opponents it becomes even more likely that one of them might have a spade which isn't only more likely higher than his but takes away some of his outs. So against his opponents range of hands he isn't the favorite, it's only because we can see the cards and know nobody else has a spade that we know he's a favorite but if even one of them had a higher flush draw then wasika is no longer favorite in the hand.

If he isn't willing to gamble with that draw, why the fuck get involved? Just fold pre. I mean, that's a dramflop. His call pre doesn't make any logic swear to god

@@MariuselGH if he calls, and loses to both binger and jaime, he loses $2M in real money by being 3rd instead of 2nd. He starts the hand in 2nd place. Its called ICM. Jaime jamming made it ICM suicide for him cause he could get stacked. A straight flush draw is still just a draw. for $2M is a clear fold!

His hand is actually not doing all that well against the two ranges. Either Binger or Gold could very easily have a superior flush draw, in fact, I would think it's likely one of them does have a better flush draw.

well i would have called in the moment but that is a suicide play jamie is calling no matter what bcz he has a huge chip stack and if wasika shoved the other guy is never calling. So most of the time jamie has a pair or something and if wasika missed the draw. He would come 3rd and keep in mind just by folding this hand he made an extra $2 million dollars.

People that actually watched him play the entire tournament have told me what they didn't show you on TV was he stole lots of pots over and over and just owned almost every table he played at to give him the big stack so he could take the gambles he did. The TV only showed you the big pots where he got lucky or made an outrageous bluff that people were scared to call cause they didn't want knocked out, but it was through skill that he got the big stack that allowed him to take a few more gambles than he otherwise would have taken. If he hadn't built up a big stack by stealing lots of small pots he'd never have played some of the funkier hands that we see him play but when you are a big stack the correct play is to gamble a bit more.

Strange things can happen with shuffle machines and one cut. People might wonder if spades could be excessive enough for multiple draws to get there, but when I witnessed an unparalleled hand, it made me rethink this possibility. One dealer I know amazingly dealt all 4 aces off the top of the deck heads up. He didnt even realize how odd this feat was until I pointed it out. It would have been funnier if he told me all the cards in the deck were aces, but i started thinking, what a spooky dealer to lay out those cards and not realize how rare that is. Someone do the math for specifically 4 aces off the top of a 52 card deck. You'll see what I mean when the odds are posted.
