UPDATE PLEASE READ!!: please watch my later video first before watching this one • 2006-2016 Yamaha R6 Ev... I was unsure on some things on this video and also please read this description. I wanted to be clear, the cam chain tensioner fixed my cam chain rattle for a few seconds on startup. If your 06+ R6 does this, replace with a new cam chain tensioner, there is an updated yamaha oem part for it that has a better design, I would not install a manual CCT because the OEM one has an oil port in it which it builds oil pressure on the CCT spring so as the bike revs more your CC tightens a bit which I believe Yamaha designed the bike around as far as the timing and allows it to cycle the valves perfectly and run at higher RPMs the way it was designed and have more(normal) HP. I think if you install a manual CCT you will loose a bit of HP up top because it cannot adjust as the CT builds speed. If you do replace it be very very careful that your cam chain does not jump a tooth of timing when you pull out the CCT and install the new one, I have had this happen to me and I had to go in and readjust the timing and pull the cams out, it was a pain. If you put tension on the cam chain when you take out the CCT and put in the new one it should hold the CC in place. If your bike is dying when it is cold and shutting off when you come to a stop, YOU NEED A VALVE ADJUSTMENT. 2006 Yamaha R6 Valve Adjustment Tips/Advice. I replaced the CCT which fixed the rattle on startup from the CCT. And adjusted the valves in this video and fixed the cold engine dying problem (engine would have trouble staying on until 160 degrees if revved or ridden) I road the bike last when it was about 85 degrees outside then road it after the valve adjustment when it was 100 degrees outside. Along with the valve adjustment I cleaned the air filter, gapped the spark plugs, adjusted the idle screws on the throttle bodies and replaced the cam chain tensioner. Looking back you do NOT need to adjust your idle set screws on each cylinder on the throttle bodies, you really only need to do this if you mess with the throttle bodies themselves, they come preset where they need to be and should not have to be redone. After everything I did to the bike I did not feel a noticeable gain in power whatsoever, but did feel some power gain and the bike did run and idle smoother than before. But this could be accounted to the others things I did while doing the valve adjustment. I would not expect to gain horsepower from doing a valve adjustment, however if you do a valve adjustment on your bike on time and when the bike needs it, you can expect to have a longer lasting engine that keeps it's power with higher miles. If you neglect to adjust your valves over time the valves will wear out quicker and can eventually break due to improper or out of spec gap between the cam and upper cap of each valve spring. It is essential that you find and download a service manual, use a torque wrench to torque bolts down to the specified tightness, remove/re-install bolts in the specified order (specifically the ones holding down each cam), go slow, take pictures and mark on the cam shaft and cams and gears wear everything was before etc, and follow the service manual carefully.

The four screws are idle air screws. They are meant to be individually adjusted to account for slight differences in the fit of each throttle butterfly. Adjusting the screws is called "synchronizing the throttle bodies". The tool you need is a "sync tool" such as the Motion Pro SyncPro. It measures the vacuum created within each inlet at idle. The bike will typically idle much better with those properly adjusted. I was able to sync my '05 R6 with the fuel tank lifted but nothing else removed. Doesn't take long. Instructions are included with the sync tools, or just KZfaq it.

the dying on cold engine is a typical yamaha thing... but if you just keep the starter button pressed 2 seconds longer when the bike already starts (oh and absolutely dont touch the throttle while your are starting) it will run and idle just fine. don know exaclty why some of the yammies have this but this method works! Cheers!

@@thegoldbarron9504 the yammies don't have an oil pressure sensor, they use oil level sensor. I have experienced the problem on a lot of r6'es from 2006 and on. (Also bikes with fresh valvetrains)

Thank you for posting this. I have the same issue will try the cam chain tensioner first

You talking about the whoop when it starts cold ? That’s normal , dying is not , I adjusted my idle screws as well and found out my choppy idle was from having full exhaust and air filter and smog plates and not having the right tune . I loaded correct tune on pc5 and it fixed it

I have a 06 r6 and have a good question for you but I’ll have to send a pic of the problem, but someone must’ve worked on my motorcycle before I bought it because where the pick up is I took the cover off and the bottom right hole where a screw goes is chipped/ broken! From the inside of the thread like someone tightened the heck out of it! Can it be fixed or do I have to buy a lower case?

Hey bro i have 2007 R6 and i am having almost the same problem as you and i am very confused as what i could do to fix it. I bought this bike last year and i dont know what all is been done on this Previously, my bike was mostly stock. Only mod was exup delete. The bike would start and idle normally under cold start but if i go out for a drive when the temperature is under 140F, it would stall at the stop sign. The bike would run normally once it goes past 140F Now, i deleted the muffler box and replaced it with mid pipe and new slipon, the bike will start but will die once the temperature reaches 106F. Then it would take multiple cranks to get it start. This wasn’t happening with stock muffler & slipon. In your video you explained this could be the sign of valve adjustment but on forums most people are pointing this behavior to TPS and throttle body sync. What should i do? I am not mechanically inclined and really dont want to blindly throw in money. Hope you can guide me

@@thegoldbarron9504 it has 17.5k miles. One thing i noticed is that if i cover 3/4 of the exhaust with my shoe, the idle will smoothen out and will continue to idle normally. If i take my shoe out then it dies out. Once the temperature reaches 160F, it then idles fine but is little jumpy (1100-1400). Do i need valve adjustment or is this back pressure related issue?
