Watch a full tutorial as a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser will have a brand new NVX 6.5" Component Speakers installed in the front doors and dash. We will be installing these in the factory locations and adapting the factory 6x9" speaker to a 6.5" as well.
This video applies to Toyota FJ Cruiser models for years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. This video demonstrates door panel removal, new speaker wiring, testing, and installation.

Do the midrange (car door) speakers need the amplifier or can that just connect straight to the old port?

Dude, great videos! I'm on the precipice of doing my first head-unit install into my FJ sometime in the next month or so and really want to do it right. Hoping I can use the existing speakers, JBL 440w Amp, and Subwoofer so that I don't have to replace those.. but I guess the factory speakers (even the JBL upgrades) are low impedance so.. not sure what the implications are of my intended head unit upgrade.

Did aiming the tweeters from the factory location sound good? I'm debating on doing the same or making A-piller pods. Not sure if the difference will be worth it.

Honestly, the easier setup would be to do a component set that doesn't have an external crossover that are integrated in each speaker (like the Alpine Type S line). This avoids the need to connect both tweeter and mid bass to the same crossover.

I’m upgrading mine and like the layout you did with this FJ. How did you hook up the rear pillar speakers? I’m upgrading mine but curious how you got them working with a 4 channel set up.

From factory, the "rear" speakers in the speaker wiring harness adapter is set to power the rear tweeters, and to feed signal to the amp/sub if so equipped. So you an power them from the new radio, or from an amplifier from the harness adapter behind the radio, just depends on your build.

the factory speakers are trash, they are thin paper with a magnet the size of a dime.

What’s the difference between the 6.5 and the 6x9? Do the 6.5’s sound better? thanks man. Helpful video

No, 6x9s are larger, can handle more power, & have the capacity for more coaxial tweeters, so they play stronger, louder, & clearer. This guy is promoting a certain product.
