@@Loiyaboy Although he does have a point win at Daytona, winning the Truck race in 2006, then he won the inaugural Truck event at Talladega. This one did sting, and imagine if Kyle didn't clip the apron (what caused the wreck in the first place), we would have had the 29 being pushed by the 17 and the 01 by the 5. It would have been the 2007 Pepsi 400 or perhaps the 2016 Daytona 500. The finish would have been closer than 0.020 seconds. Even though it's been 12 1/2 years, this was Harvick's 11th Cup win, and now he has 46. He won 23 with Childress from 2001-2013, and he's now won 23 with Stewart-Haas from just 2014 to today.

I had stopped even keeping up with NASCAR after Mark announced he was going to retire and leave Rouch. I had the race on but literally paid no attention and I had not idea Mark was even racing that day. I noticed the crawler with the leaders on it and saw 01 Martin in the lead and could not believe I had paid so little attention that I didnt know he was racing a partial schedule. But I went from being bummed out to the guy I loved being in the lead at Daytona. My neighbors thought I had lost my mind, but this was it, and Mark was holding them off, and then came that damn final turn. The soda mark lost but every replay I would move around in the room just trying to find angle where the 01 inches him out, but it never happened. I went from delirious to as down as ever. Then to follow that up, Martin refused to run a full schedule even though he had a good lead in points. Not only did he he miss the best shot we ever had if winning Daytona, he wouldn't even take a shot at the championship. I dont know if he would have gone after if he had won that race, or if he said to himself, something will screw it up and it's to hard to work so hard and finish second, but he had a great shot at winning it all

What made this finish perfect: The night time and the flashing cameras. The commentary from Mike, Larry, and Darrell made the race even more intense. Kyle Busch trying to find a way to get around Mark. Harvick and Kenseth getting a big run on the outside. Kyle trying to jump in front of Kevin Mark getting loose into turn 4. The big one coming off of turn 4. The close drag race to the line.

@mattkowal904 жыл бұрын
@@joekaput747 It wouldn't have been perfect if Tony and Kurt didn't crash out. They were running away with the race, and as soon as Tony and Kurt were knocked out just past the 3/4 mark, it was a free-for-all. Guys like Kyle Busch, Truex, Sadler, and Martin were trading the lead and the action escalated quickly. It's a shame though that this Daytona 500 was the last 500 for the Generation 4 car.

Sad but that little wobble coming out of the corner cost Mark the race. It's amazing it didnt take him out because you know he was fighting to keep the car going forward as fast as possible while fighting it being loose. This is honestly one of the best Daytona 500s I've watched still to this day, even as a Dale Jr fan. Just the way the race played out, with the two dominant cars taking each other out, and the race ending at night the way it did after a long red flag to let us anticipate the finish. Also the fact that the caution wasn't thrown until they crossed the line is something I am glad happened and wish they still do, even though I really wanted to finally see Mark win it.

Even though he never won the biggest crown jewel event, he has won a couple of the other crown jewels. He won the 2002 Coca-Cola 600 (won the No Bull 5 as well), the Southern 500 in 1993 and 2009, and they consider both races at Talladega as crown jewels. He won twice there in the Spring of 1995 and the Spring of 1997. Even though he finished second, he actually won a little over a million dollars because the purses were still going up.
