2007 Toyota Camry Cabin Air Filter Replacement - Easy DIY

Toyota makes this job easy enough for almost anyone to perform. This cabin air filter doesn't even require tools to remove or install it. In this video I will guide you trough the process of changing your cabin air filter. This is a 3-10 minute job for most people unless there are complications.
What possible complications could there be?
If debris (leaves, rocks, insulation, part of the filter) falls into the blower motor below the cabin air filter then the blower motor may have to be removed. If your blower motor has debris in it DON'T RUN IT. It can cause the fan to bend or deform while spinning and then break into pieces when it hits the HVAC housing.
I would recommend changing the cabin air filter at least once a year and if its available use the charcoal filter since it reduces odors as well as filters the air.

You put the filter in upside down! The air flow is top to bottom?

The genuine Toyota filters point the arrow up or at least they used to. They also used to say top. Most aftermarket filter have the arrow in the direction of airflow and on this vehicle it should be pointed down. Good eye catching that little arrow.

Ok I just experienced the same thing. My car had dry leaves and cigarette butts and dried flowers also a lot on lint or some sort of fluffy stuff which I’m not aware how it got there. My car was parked at a body shop for 6+ months but I’m furious to know How in the world could those filters go in there and all that debris. There’s hardly any space for any debris to go in and which creature. We felt a very very bad smell coming in and that is when we decided to open the filter. Could you help me determine how the heck they even out in. ?

Great detailed tutorial! Thank you! I have a question, I bought a 2009 Camry like this one, it is extensively covered with dust everywhere inside the dash, behind radio, in the trunk... Yesterday I removed the center console and radio for cleaning/inspection and noticed that the top side of the cabin air filter is visible through the opening where the car stereo is! Is this normal??? If the airflow is from top to bottpm, this would mean that the contaminated outside air enters inside the dash area freely! shouldn't there be a duct from outside of the car from the air inlets to the top of the filter?

The filter is normally only visible when you have recirculate selected. Some vehicles also switch to recirculate when the car is turned off to prevent rodents from entering a parked car. When fresh air is selected the door flips to block the interior air and allows outside air to enter the top of the filter. Hope that makes since. The dust is very strange but if you live on a dirt road it is bound to happen. If there there is any door seals not sealing completely of if you drive on a dirt road with the windows cracked or open the dirt gets sucked into the car through every small opening.

I also found that the one way flap valve in the trunk for cabin ventilation has one of the rubber flaps torn away and the previous owner installed routed parking sensor wires through that opening and there were tons of dirt there

Thanks for the video. Is the new air filter installed with the Arrow Up or the arrow Down? I'm getting conflicting information from other video tutorials & filter manufacturers.

I may have installed this one upside down. Most of the Toyotas have an up arrow and the aftermarket filters have an arrow for airflow direction which is down.

There are three screws and one electrical connector holding in the blower. The blower motor will be located under the glove box and is cylindrical in shape. Make sure to remove all your floor mats to make it easier to get the blower motor out.

No you wouldn't have to take the blower motor off just turn the fan switch on and everything should blow out if you haven't replaced the new filter

It will blow some of it back out but much of the debris will get stuck on the evaporator core and restrict airflow.

Your video was no clear enough when you were inserting the filter for me to determine if it said "up" next to the arrow on the filter or if it said "air flow" and you didn't mention the difference. Air flow is NOT going up. Air flow is down. If you put the filter in with the arrow pointing up then it's upside down unless it said "up" next to the arrow. The ONLY time an arrow on a cabin air filter should point up is if it says "up" next to the arrow. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter have downward air flow. Otherwise the blower motor would be full of dirt and debris. If it doesn't say up next to the arrow then the arrow indicates air flow direction and should point down. Still not sure? Then remove the filter and turn on the blower. Then put your hand where the filter goes. Does it feel like it's blowing upward? Use a piece of string or tissue paper. They will be sucked downward. All the Toyota parts that say up on them have nothing to do with air flow. They are simply telling us which side goes up.@
