Great routine~ Li Xiaopeng performed superbly on parallel bars during 2008 Olympic Games Finals. He won the gold medal and scored 16.450.

Came back from serious ankle injury and won olympics again, got to respect the patience, commitement, effort and hard work he has put into his comeback. His reaction was very genuine. So happy it paid off for him.

How in crap's name does he keep his whole body straight? Even in vault, when he's flipping through the air, his whole body is... unbelievable... incidentally, I just found out that he's now a dad! I remember him when he was only 19 during the 2000 Olympics & promising my elementary selfI would marry him someday LOL.

Wow the way he flys from one side of the bar to other end is so smooth... I've seen Belyavskiy do it at this years olympic and it just doesn't look as effortless as Li Xiaopengs

Li owns vault and P-bars! I don't know of any finer vaulter and only a select few P-bar workers that can do what he does.

Among all men's teams, China has been the best team since early 90s. They not only have incredible difficulty, they also have grace and elegance. Russia and Japan are very good, too. Though Russian team didn't win team medal at 2008 Olympics, their gymnastics is still prettier than u.s. team which won bronze. Russians and and Chinese have a lot in common in gymnastics and it's a treatment to watch their performance.

I love how in the beginning he stands on the board and scans each bar before he goes.

Xiaopeng Li and the daughter of former world champion Xiaoping Li and Jia Wen. (Wen was also a gymnast on Chinese national team which won silver or bronze? team medal at 1982 world championship), a beautiful Chinese-American girl, just got married in August, 2010! There is a new video of their wedding at KZfaq.

Gymnasts are supposed to pay attention to the screen/light, not the judges. And that's where Pavlova made the mistake. The judges weren't ready to see her. If they would still score her, it would most likely be too much or too little. If this happened in the regionals or something it probably would've been forgiven. But like you said it's the Olympics, judges have to be professional. Professional in gymnastics mean doing what the CoP says, no matter how harsh.
@SnowGirl09811 жыл бұрын
The judges have instant replay--it's hardly a one-time observational decision. And I'm sure NBC and other news stations would be happy to provide extra footage. Pertaining to the CoP, I think we're just going to have to disagree. The way I see it, the Olympics should be the MOST ethical competition of them all, meaning that the best athletes should be given the titles. On a side note, thank you for providing civil conversation. It's hard to have a calm discussion on KZfaq these days.

rules are rules. If a gymnast broke a rule and was still rewarded, it would be a sign to all gymnasts that no matter how much disrespect you give to the judges for vaulting before the signal, you would still win.

...a lot of people do not present to the judges. You should watch the Romanian women team. People are judged based on how good of a gymnast they are; that's the whole purpose of this game. I still remember that one girl whose vault they didn't count -- despite the fact that it was close to perfect -- because she started before the green light. She wasn't Chinese, or even Asian, but I still think they should've counted it.

What happened to China’s gymnastics team?
@SnowGirl09811 жыл бұрын
...yes, you should still win if you are the best gymnast. Is that not the purpose of these games? Last time I checked, "respecting" the judges isn't a gymnastics skill. And it isn't even a matter of disrespect. That one girl misinterpreted a signal that was made by one of the officiators. What if you performed the best technical vault, a vault you practiced for years, and a simple miscommunication declared someone else the winner? Some rules actually prohibit fairness rather than ensuring it.

GymchampZW: Please read my comments carefully before you make your response. I said "most", not "all american gymnasts"!
@raras88911 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree some rules aren't right, but the rule was there when she did her vault, so the judges had to give her a zero. I mean, it's not like they're gonna immediately write a new CoP just because they wanted to give one of the most perfect vaults a score. The gesture might be translated into overscoring or worse, favoritism.

@SnowGirl09811 жыл бұрын
I suppose that's where I disagree. I don't think many people would see it as favoritism or overscoring. I think most people, especially if they have experience in competitive sporting events, would see it as justified. After all, it's not like she fell and made a mistake in the actual gymnastics. On a platform as big as the Olympics, with so many events going on simultaneously and so many countries participating, I think a miscommunication could be overlooked.
@raras88911 жыл бұрын
So the light wasn't red when she ran off? I don't think she was disrespecting the judges, but some people might interpret it that way. Imagine if she still got a score on that, KZfaq, NBC and BBC would all be, "Pavlova broke a rule and still got scored despite actually having to score a zero!!" I'm disappointed that she didn't get a score, but breaking one of the rules of the sport and still getting your rewards despite that you shouldn't have is also unfair. As always, rules are rules.
@GymchampZW13 жыл бұрын
@russiangymfan First off, you can not make a hasty generalization and say that all American gymnastics have no grace or artistry. Please look at Alexander Artemev, who, in my opinion has the best execution in the world. Secondly, if you consider Nabieva graceful and/or elegant... Well then I would like you to open your eyes. In fact, the majority of the Russian gymnastics nowadays have little form. (Although there is no denying their choreography is beautiful.)

The only thing they didn't get first on was vsult
@SnowGirl09811 жыл бұрын
No, the light was red. But an officiator was signalling to someone else and she thought it was directed to her. If KZfaq, NBC and BBC responded like that, it'd be more than easy to respond, "She did one of the best technical vaults. The rule does not relate to the vault itself. By GYMNASTICS standards, she deserves her score." Yes, rules are rules, but some rules aren't just. Maybe it's a stretch, but once upon a time, it was law to discriminate against black people, but hey, laws are laws.

i don't think the there are any problems with the new code of points...it's fair...you can choose to do easy stuff n get high execution marks or you can do difficult stuff with the risk of having lower execution scores...v fair..check out 1997 beam EF...now that's shit

if the other gymnasts had the ability to do what zou did they would have. he combined tricks that the others just couldn't match up with. even if their were better people who fell it doesn't matter because that is competitioin. he deserved to win the competition. he played by the rules and came out on top. you are very childish in your perseption of his victory. just because he is not who you wanted to win doesnt mean he didnt deserve it. his excecution was low and it showed in the B whatd u wnt

Well, then I suppose I see it differently. I see it the same way I see jaywalking: a silly law that no one actually gets arrested for. If people followed every code of points exactly by the book, a bunch of people would be in jail for breaking frivolous laws.

...wateva.. his floor was gr8, but not his hb. sorry. gymnast who take risk huh? i c... its not bout taking risk, its about training hard and doing that skill consistently and improving it. if it's so much about taking risk then i think evy1 would go for the hardest skill, there's no more flow in the routine. IT IS GUD in terms of bringing gymnastics to a higher level but its not healthy for the sport. hope u guyz get what i mean. u must be able to perform it nicely.
