Thank you for posting this. It happened to our 2009 CTS and all the dash warning lights came on and it would only run on reduced power. The sunroof drain tubes were clogged and water accumulated and eventually leaked down the passenger side pillar soaking the wiring harness you fixed in your video. We did take it to the dealer and they said it would cost $12,000 to fix. Unbelievable huh? So I took it home and started googling the issue and found your post. I didn’t see any rust so I just sprayed everything with WD-40. Low and behold when I started the car, all the lights were not showing except for the check engine light. After a couple minutes, it turned off too. I’ve driven it about 100 miles on and off this week with no issues. Awesome.

Thank you VERY MUCH. Been having issues with my wife's 08 CTS and I knew it was because of water but I thought it was under the carpet. I have a tube of Dielectric grease and a wire brush which I hope will do the job without having to cut but it's good to know if I have to cut then I can. You've made my wife very happy and you know what they say, "HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE"!!!!!!!

I bought a 2011 CTS a few months ago and out of curiosity have been watching a lot of videos about this. The guy I bought this from had the timing chains replaced under warrantee at 50k miles and had the right valve cover gasket updated to fix the PCV oil problem.. It was always garage kept and rarely saw rain, and still is. I do appreciate this video, the more I learn from experienced people who have dealt with this car, the better. Thanks for this.

Suave Dorsett, you are my hero man. I had the drain port leak in the front once and the dealer took care of it no charge. Probably because I did all of my service there. I've had my 2008 CTS4 since new. I love the car and will drive it till the wheels fall off, replace them and drive it some more. It has just over 212,000 on it now. Recently I noticed a water stain showing up on the passenger side rail and then noticed water collecting on the front passenger side carpet. when I started the car all lights went crazy. I turned it off and used my air compressor to blow out all four drain ports in sunroof. I let it set a couple days and all lights ok except check engine but it went out after about 70 miles later. I've noticed my air mixer clicking and going crazy, can't really adjust temp anymore. Nav system won't stay up, Sun Shade won't open but sunroof does work, TPMS not working. So I just saw your video and think your are a certified genius. I plan to access the same area and do a lot of contact "butt plug" cleaning and I'm banking on my problem being solved. I just wonder how much money the stealership has made off of folks with this issue and selling them everything they don't need or making them so feed up they resort to selling a perfectly fine automobile. Word of advice to all, change fluids, blow out drain plugs every quarter, did I say change fluids!!! and your car will love you for it.

my 2008 cts is doing the same. Seems to only happens when it rains hard...all the gauges went crazy and when the service traction light comes on it would go over 30 mph... thanks for sharing the info very man. love my cts hate all the electrical ...know what I'll be doing in the morning. I disconnected the battery so nothing burns up. I highly suggest that to anybody cutting wires

Thanks for taken the time to make this video man. Having the same issues with my sons 2009. I've already replaced the sunroof seals & all that but now everything shuts down every now & then.

My 2014 CTS4 (has the 2.0 turbo) with 97k miles on it has been trouble free. You absolutely MUST do all the required maintenance at the specified intervals. The 97k service is a biggy and runs around $1800-$2000. (Oil, filter, trans fluid flush and filter, transfer case flush, rear end flush, brake system flush, air, cabin, and fuel filters replaced, all door handles, locks, and window gears lubed, spark plugs changed, wires inspected, I needed all 4 brakes and rotors replaced. The factory Brembos are spendy! Front rotors - $720 Rear rotors - $640 Pads - $200 My total was $2600 but she's good for another 100k miles!

Now I'm going to look at my plugs, thanks 😊

i had an 2008 jeep that had plug corrosion problems i fixed it by using electrical contact cleaner on all the connections and then i used electrolytic grease and never had a problem again with the ecu and gauges.

Butt plug?!? Lol .. Crimp style wire connects.. or I guess butt plug.. however this was very useful information on a leaky sunroof… Mine is leaking and doing the same thing and you help me solve my issue thank you

Just had the same issue on my 09 CTS4 fixed drain plug which came un lose and then went to start the car went in limp mode, stability and check engine light on... Will clean contacts and seal them better than factory tomorrow ... Thank You for the video helps out a lot of us with these leaky sunroof... I will sleep better tonight... Good Night

I haven’t had the water problem but. We bought this car brand new. I always had an air leak took it back in they said no air leak. My son found it in the sunroof. After it was out of warranty. I got on the freeway and heard a huge bang. Sounded just like someone was shooting at me. I didn’t dare stop so I kept going got home my sunroof had blown up. Check out sunroofs blowing up it happens to every make of car with panoramic sunroof. Just so you know. After I had it repaired no air leak but could still do it again. I was stunned how many times this has happened to people all cars. No one was on the freeway but me. I would have seen lights. Check it out.

Old vid but maybe try this ... spray wd40 on all those connectors ... it disperses moisture/water and may fix it and prevent future probs ... on old cars with distributors the cap/rotor/wires would get wet driving in rain or slushy roads and stall car .. a good shot of wd40 all over those parts worked instantly and car would start ... WD stands for water dispersement ... maybe also spray it down sunroof drains periodically

Hi, I have the same thing with my cts 08 . I had to replace the sunroof seals Front and rear also the drain tubes right and rear as well. My stereo won’t turn on or the lights from the ac/ and radio won’t turn on. Do u think I have to do the same like what u did in this video ?

I've been having a similar problem. My Radio won't true on or off. The NAV screen will stay stuck down or up. The temperature controls go crazy. I know its water because it only occurs after it rains. And it also happened a day after going through a car wash. After leaving the windows open on 2 nice days it dried out and everything returned to normal. I need to check the sunroof drains again. Its harder to keep water out of a CTS than a U-Boat.

Most problems leaking water inside sunroof,open sunroof clean up exit tube on corners to release water after rain.

open your sunroof and look for the drain pipes that lean down the the wheel well.. run some viniger and compressed air through them, mildue gets caught inside and clogs the drains, I cant wait to sell my CTS, love the car but 2008 and 2009 are full of problems. my torque converter shaft is going out and the rear diff bushing is torn, engine on the other hand is very solid

I’ve had it for ten years and like I said loved it everyday but I have just started having problems. Sunroof leaking ,fuel pump module [ dealership said it is leaking ] and censors on wheel gone bad. What do you think about these problems? I don’t know if I should get rid of it or put the money in and fix it. I don’t have husband to fix it for me. What do you think I should do? I had a lot of problems with my sunroof on mine as well. I was getting ready to say fuck it and calk it cosed but decided to spend about 2,000$ to get it all repaired.

Just purchased a 2005 Cadillac CTS for $500. Needed a new radiator and battery and new support bearing for the drive shaft. Also put new brakes and turned the rotors, oil change. It seemed to run kind of rough and shift rough sometimes so I changed the trans fluid and idk if it helped it or made it worse but the trans definitely feels like it’s going out. Anyone know how long a trans would last after it starts to go out? My guess is it’s just not worth fixing or replacing the trans on these cars since they have such bad reputations? Aren’t the timing chains common issues on these too?

It does start, and runs. The stabilitrak and traction control will turn off around 2500 rpm’s, it has a flat tire as well so will need a tow or a spare I’m tryna buy this one and this what he said I figure it’s gotta be the same issues you got

With the sunroof drains, go in behind wheel wells and cut or burn (with soldering iron) the duckbill looking grommets at the end of sunroof drain hose. Had the water problem with my '08. The cabin filter clips to the firewall, sometimes the clip falls off into the engine side firewall h the filter box doesn't seat tight to the firewall, then rain or auto carwash causes water to leak into front passenger floor. Oil change places that check the cabin filter damage the filter box. I made a laminate sign with arrows pointing to filter box clips on the ends of box, to instruct filter checkers where to unlatch box lid. I believe stealerships damage things to get return customers. People, learn about your Caddys. Look, take pictures so you can know when something is not right. This g-ma retire with 31+ years in nuclear maintenance field. I no longer go to stealership I purchased my Caddy from. Bad, sub-standard service. Johnston Cadillac, Augusta Ga.

Also remember, 2008 is when GM declared bankruptcy. Corporate was probably installing cheap substandard parts & electronics to cut costs while still compensating stock holders. Bailed out by government, our tax dollars. Smh.

So I have a Cadillac 2003 CTS and my car won't turn on anymore so the battery is good and everything at everything checks out but however my original radio is not in the car I let somebody switch it out so I think it's something dealing with wires can you help

That's because your gutter wasn't connected anymore. I had the same problem and had it fixed by my windshield repair guy

also the trunk light and the 2 license plate bolts will leak and fk things up

Would this also effect the center radio controls not getting power? I have no radio or any fuctions at all but I know the CD player is getting power because I disconnected and plugged it back in and it had power inside it and also my 12v plug has power too..

The grommets that the drain hoses from the roof plug into at the lower end are not patent, they have molded flaps that apparently slow the rate of drainage. The ends of the internal flaps are so close together that a grain of sand can stop them up. You need to pull the front grommets out and remove the little molded flaps so that the water can drain freely. I recently experienced this problem in my 08 that started with the passenger rear window rolling down automatically and not going back up. The next hard rain a few days later sent the car into limp mode with the same problems you described after water leaked into the front passenger side.

Same problem with my 2008 Cts..Now my radio has no volume (not fuse), passenger door won't open from outside, headlights replaced 3x Omg what a nightmare to change! , heat & Cool control on passenger side don't work my daughter freezes if vent is opened & I turn heat on! Someone help!! I bought a 2008 Cadillac CTS 2 days ago. Today I had my 9yr old grandson and 14 yr old daughter heading to the roller skating rink all happy!! New car made kids so happy until getting off the exit the whole rear end fishtailed it took a few tries to straighten it out scared the hell out of me!! But played it cool. My grandson don't want to ride in it anymore. This happened twice so I know I didn't hit a slick spots . What would make the rear end just slide out of control? I put 100lbs sand bags in the trunk today but I'm even scared to drive now :(
