Yeah it was good. The owner sold this car a few months later and the engine blew up on the new owners right after they bought it. I cost so much to get a new engine put in it, that they sent it to the junk yard for $100.

Yeah except the owner sold it and the new owners ended up having to replace the engine 5k miles later. Fun to drive, but I wouldn't own one.

That's great. I would sell it while it runs. Just sayin! This one had a complete engine failure just a few months later . The vacuum pump seized up on it and cause one of the camshafts to seize and the valve smashed into the pistons. It is in the junk yard now.

True normally the cam shaft snaps from the locked up pump long before the plastic is an issue. Luckily the owner of this one sold it right before that happened.

This guy doesn't know... shade tree mechanic with a scanner that has no clue of what half the stuff he was looking at is. He thought the evap line was in the front next to hot turbo pathing😂. If he wasn't ham fisted he would know they are well designed and actually easy to work on. Just like that vacuum pump takes 20mins to change out and the #1 cause is choke oil vein caused by the 7k+ mile oil changes. Adjustable torque wrenchs and finesse.

That thing only has 39K miles on it. I bet it been sitting broken down most it's life!

@@frugalprepper So my wife and I bought one of those 10 years ago actually it’s a R 60 and unfortunately my spouse passed away w/ cancer a couple years ago but anyway I thought I’d keep her car so last year I took it into the BMW nearby …It is the only certified mini mechanic around so I had to spend extra for that, lucky me. Six months later I went to go change the oil and I got under the hood to look around and all of these intake tubes were disconnected…this after I spent $1200 at BMW! I need an upper engine clean along with all the fluid changes on that last visit to BMW. A certified mini mechanic my ass!!! If he can’t put the fucking thing back together… Check engine light with reduced engine performance it says… which is exactly what this car was experiencing and then they broke one of the turbo air intake tubes and at the exact spot that he (this video)was showing that had been taped-up. I took it back again to BMW and all they did was put duct tape on it later too for me! I went to a hardware store afterwards about a half mile away and I opened up the hood down there and I looked at all of it and still one of the intake tubes was not connected underneath where the airbox is. So I had to drive back there and get them to come out into the parking lot and fix the dang thing again so now I still don’t know if it’s correctly put together!!! So this year I decided I needed to replace that whole tube so I did it myself… easy Peezy… but now I’m thinking,did they reconnect all of that stuff properly? I gotta go back and look now it’s driving me crazy… this car, it’s an absolute nightmare SO don’t get one Unless you can do all this work yourself otherwise you can’t trust people to replace everything and lock it down with the provided hardware!

Mark The owner sold this car and it since has had to have a new engine with the new owners. Not sure what failed but it was a catastrophic failure at less than 40k miles. Good he sold it when he did. Like most BMW stuff it is over designed plastic 💩

What's different about "modern" engines compared to older engines? Fuel, spark, compression, and timing. The combustion engine hasn't changed much since its conception. We have better metallurgy, and fuel controls but it's still the same thing. I'd venture to say you don't know much about engines or cars, because if you did you wouldn't spend your money on a piece of crap Mini Cooper.

Gijs Spruyt: I had the same reaction: no way this guy ever lay a finger on my Mini. Value of this video? What was hanging there beside the turbo's wastegate is the turbo diverter valve. So having that popper off, all the boost would be released constantly under the hood even after reattaching the intercooler hose properly. So there were the 2 main problems. And yes reinstallation wasn't much better than removing parts and hard to watch. What about the turbo intake hose; dud that ever get fixes or he went from electrical tape to duck tape? lol

FrugalPrepper's Garage & Garden you've bitch of the bad design of the noise generator (yeah that thing that connects the intake boost pipe to the firewall) not knowing what it was, did not reattached the turbo hose properly, never noticed the ignition coils not clipped properly, almost broke the powerbrakes vacuum line and the sensor connector, bump stuff, drop tools, and talk about star nuts..... Lol I'll stop here; not worth it. Good job on the video: pretty good thriller/cliff hanger.
