In this video I take you with me while I replace the spark plugs in my 2008 Nissan 350Z with the HR motor. I wanted to show this video because when I purchased this car I could not find any video that showed the process and what would be needed to do the job. The video is long but feel free to skip around if there were specific things you were interested in. I show almost the whole process as I go.
Supplies Needed:
- New Spark Plugs (6 for this job, double check your manual)
- New Throttle Body Gaskets (if old ones are bad)
- Anti-Seize (recommended, not required)
- Dielectric Grease (recommended, not required)
Tools Needed:
- Basic Hand Tools
- Ratchet and Sockets (metric)
- Allen Wrenches
- Rubber hose (or method of grabbing spark plug)
-Torque Wrench (for proper installation, do not over tighten)

I love this particular engine. It's a beauty. VQ35HR all day!! I'm so lucky that I got a 350z with an HR motor. I had no idea there was three different types of motors for the 350z. Of course I found out AFTER I purchased the vehicle.

Bro great video! Can you do a video on pully replacements? Mine is squeeking, not sure how to do these advanced things. A how to video for this engine would be very helpful to the HR community! Lookin forward for it.

Thanks for making this video. How many miles were on your car and on those plugs? and did you notice any difference running with the new spark plugs? I have 74k miles on my 2007 I've had since new and wondering if I should change mine yet.
@scottwalker19

I have a little over 150,000 miles on the car. I’m not sure if I really noticed a difference per se but hopefully the car is happy with fresh plugs, potentially leading to better fuel burn and stuff like that. I did not have any misfires or anything prior to putting a new plugs but I bought the car and I was unsure of what had been done and with 150K on it I decided to go ahead and do them since they weren’t that expensive. Thanks for watching!

Don't forget to plug any sensors in before starting. I accidentally left a throttle body sensor out, started the car and it would instantly died. Had to have the ECU reflashed. Don't make my same mistake.

Yep! Thats why I mentioned in the video to always unplug your battery and I also opted to not unplug anything from the throttle bodies since I did not have to.

Doing this to my HR soon! Can you get away with just removing ground from battery or is disconnecting the other cable a must? Thanks in advance!
@scottwalker19
@scottwalker19 2 жыл бұрын
I am sure you could just remove one cable from the battery (I am not an expert but if only the ground then it could touch something and ground itself on accident and then cause an issue) and it would be fine. I have had a bad experience in the past with the battery still being hooked up and messing up sensors just unplugging the connectors and ruining the sensor when its pugged back in. Thats just my personal experience.

Question, when removing the front strut bar, does vehicle have to be, or should it be, on jack stands? I've never known the answer, but I always put my front end in jack stands when removing the front strut bar. Its a pain in the ass getting the floor jack, and jack stands; at least for me because I don't have a garage. I constantly have to roll out the floor jack out onto the driveway.

I am not an expert on Nissan 350z's but I would assume that the strut bar is not structural. You probably do not have to use it however it does add rigidity to the Chassis so that is why it is a bonus to have it. Most vehicles do not come with a strut bar but lots of performance vehicles can have one from the factory or aftermarket options to allow you to stiffen the frame to reduce flex.

Is it safe to use denso req. 8 spark plugs on vq35hr instead of denso req. 7 one?
@scottwalker19
@scottwalker19 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure what spark plugs you are referring to exactly. I would typically use what is recommended from factory unless your vehicle has major aftermarket modification which could change the spark plugs you use for a different heat range and spark type.

Not sure if it’s the spark plugs but on my girlfriends car it turns off sometimes when you turn the car on and you’ll have to turn the car on and give it gas and sometimes like today when we took off after putting gas going like 8 mph the car turned off. Any idea what would cause it.

I am not sure if I have an answer for you on that. You could check the symptoms on google to see if there are any forum threads where others are experiencing similar symptoms.

They should be if you have the same HR motor. They could always be cross-referenced with the parts center at a dealership
