In this video I change the gearbox/transmission oil/fluid on my 2008 Smart Fortwo 451 Passion 84 BHP Turbo. I purchased the oil from a Smart dealership and it is important to observe the correct specification which is the Mercedes-Benz standard MB235.72 and viscosity 75W90. The part number is A0019895103/10 and the oil is Castrol BOT 328.
I use a pump to transfer the new oil into the gearbox, with an approximate refill quantity of 2.3 litres.
I discuss what to look for in terms of the old oil and cover the significance of finding grey particles in the oil or the old oil being completely grey and what that can mean in terms of gearbox/differential failure due to internal component failure.
I also refer to a previous gearbox replacement on a VW Golf and a rear differential replacement on a Vauxhall Carlton, due to excessive noise and whining/howling.
