Went from 53 down in the 7th to winning his first major in the 10th. Absolutely amazing. I mean, look at that 2nd shot in the 10th - $50,000 on the line, your first major, a shot at the Roll to Riches and an exemption for 2 years... Extrapolate the numbers, and that was possibly a $250,000 shot. And he absolutely stuffed it. I think it's time to say that Michael Haugen Jr. is one of the best clutch players on tour today.

Well, if I went from 53 up in the 7th to losing the Tournament of Champions on the last ball... well, I can't blame him for being devastated. I can't remember a turnaround this dramatic in a long time. Closest I can remember is the Dorin-Ballard vs. Asbaty match earlier in the year, Diandra was down 40, but "only" in the fifth. lol

Don't forget what he did to win his first title, either. He struck in the 10th to beat Todd Book in the first game, then struck out to force Wes Malott to strike in the 10th.

He won today.....which was almost a must for him!

I think most will flatten their wrist...this creates less hook on the ball, and will allow them to go a straighter line to the spare.

@spyder803300 Another example... During the 1991 Fair Lanes Open, Pete Weber got up and struck out in the tenth to force Del Ballard Jr. to throw two strikes and 7 pins to win the tournament. Del got the two strikes and threw a gutter ball on his fill ball to lose the tournament. What did Weber do? Well, he did not start yelling and high-fiving people in the crowd. Again, similar situation in which he almost had no shot, but still won. A true professional does not act like an asshole.

Wow how can you say that lol when he won player of the year in 07-08 season. Chris Barnes has been a very consistent player and probably one of the most versatile next to Walter Ray. He has always been good in the clutch, but missing a 10 pin just made him so depressed that it was hard to get up and even throw 9/X to tie.

@spyder803300 No. However, I do not believe one should not celebrate at all. But as Pat Croce once said, everything in moderation. Yes, one can be happy with a big win, but there is no reason to over do it.

I love how it showed that Barnes missed 0 single pins all week, but when it mattered most, he missed his first one

I've bowled with Haugen Jr. before in a pro-am at Taylor Lanes in Michigan. He was very nice to bowl with. At the time, I never heard of him before. It was probably the late 90s, or about 2000?

@spyder803300 I wonder if you saw the U.S. Open from this year, when Mika Koivuniemi needed a mark in the tenth to beat Norm Duke and win the tournament when he missed a 10 pin and lost the match. And what did Norm do at that time? Well, Norm did not react like a giant asshole high fiving people in the crowd. Instead of just sat in his chair, and later in the post-game interview, Norm admitted to being shocked by what happened and said his heart went out to Mika. That is a true professional.

Might it be a bit harsh to say that? I mean, if he truly was a choke artist, he wouldn't be making as many shows as he is and has. You've got to do lots of things right to get yourself in a position to "choke," after all. By the way, if you look at Marshall Holman's record, you could make the same argument. He had a losing record on TV, and by quite a bit. They're both similar in that their mental games (IMO) were their biggest enemies. When they don't overthink it, they're awesome.

Chris Barnes just got careless in the end plain and simple. He almost did it last year when he won the geico classic.

I had to go back and watch the match again after it was all over. Stunning to say the least. Haugen made the shots, Barnes did not. My heart goes out to both men, especially Haugen who has a legitimate shot at Player of the Year.

uhhhh, alrighty then!!!! Walter Ray can play inside and has played inside before! He can get around the ball when he chooses to just like Duke and Barnes. Its just that more often he'll play the straight shot cause that's what he's best at. However I would agree that Williams Jr., Barnes, and Duke are the top 3 most versatile players on the tour probably along with Tommy Jones as well.

No Barnes fan here. I think he has beaten himself a lot over the years. Used to see him leave a ringer ten in like the third frame and cover his eyes with his hand like someone just told him his whole family just died in a fiery airplane crash. Just not very cool in my book. I enjoyed watching him lose this match very much. The only sports thing I liked better was watching Greg Norman choke at the Masters, blowing a six stroke lead and hacking his way around at Augusta. I think he ended up losing by seven strokes to Sir Nick Faldo. That was even better, because I got to watch Norman come unglued over a whopping three hours. No big fan of Greg Norman after he refused to shake Bill Clinton’s hand at the President’s Cup. Come on, man, at least put the politics aside and be civil with the President of the United States, especially after we let you land a plane on one of our aircraft carriers!

@spyder803300 Well then, sir, you and Haugen are both poor sports for the reason that you both feel it necessary to be a sore winner by rubbing it in to your opponent when you beat them.
