Volvo S80. There was a time not so long ago when Volvos were known for their safety and ruggedness, but their only style was the lack of style. More recently the brand began a life-altering transformation, converting from rear- to front-wheel drive and from boxy to stylish, inside and out. This was followed in rapid fashion by the addition of upscale elements of performance, luxury and athletic handling.
Thus Volvos second-generation S80 flagship sedan offers everything fans of European cars expect, plus a couple of key safety features that some competitors lack.
Welcome to our comprehensive Kelley Blue Book review of the Volvo S80. For more new car reviews, interviews and automotive news visit www.kbb.com today.

Man... I have a 98' Volvo S70 (which was bought the same year). The only real problem I had was the airconditioning. Other than that, It's been working just like new for those wonderful 11 years. I wouldn't trade my Volvo for any car(unless for another volvo and an Austin Martin) just because of the great expirience I have had. An example was an accident I was involved. A truck ran over me and the only thing we had to do was change the hood and the grill. Those cars are really good and tough.

Volvo's wholesale switch from RWD to FWD was not a good thing. The V8 model being standard AWD is good, however.
@zigzag7194
@zigzag7194 3 жыл бұрын
Would this not be a personal issue ... because living in the UK it's better for us to have FWD RWD tail is way to happy and just slides around in the snow. And wet weather. Cars like these are known as dry weather cars 😂

if wanted is it possible to replace the stereo? i don't really like the navi volvo offers.
@KingPOF
@KingPOF 4 жыл бұрын
I know it's a 11 year old comment. But no, you really can't change the stereo, it controls the AC, heated seats and more, it's a computer basically, no stereo could replace the original one unless you'd be okey to loose a lot of features.

@razgriz04 Yeah im planning to get an S80 in the next year or two so I've been looking into the different options. Apparantly the comfort chassis is a no cost option. Im sure the weight of the car also has an effect. Those volvos sure are weighty! Thats the price you pay for all that refinement and safety!

WOW... that's nice info. I though that the sport package was supposed to make it smoother. Ironic. LOL. But thanx again for the info. Maybe that's why mine isn't smooth at all. I was also thinking maybe it could be that it's a really heavy car. It's weight takes a toll on the shock absorbers and with really bad roads on the list, shock absorbers don't do much.

@libetta Sorry man. It doesn't ride smooth at all. My girlfriend's Mitsubishi Lancer rides a lot smoother than that. If I accelerate it to about 70 MPH, it feels like a rocketship [most of this due to really bad roads, but that doesnt happen on the BMW 530i my dad has ;)] LOL. But they do have a really nice and confy interior. =)

Seats definetelly not supportive. Maybe they designed for long straight road trips. Maybe supportive seats offered only in top trim versions. Strangely back seat offer some side support. Instruments lacking engine temperature sensor, lots of small buttons in center console. Ride without adujustable suspension average at best.

I'm sure that you all know that the chinese automaker Geely bought Volvo recently. People, don't freak out Volvo will still be made in Sweden and in Belgium and have its own board of directors so it will be Volvo's own thinking. And Geely will only be reciving parts and technologes from Volvo, not the other way around.

Not terribly quick, disappointing gas mileage, and requires premium fuel. Why choose this over a Lincoln MKZ from the time?
@kidcmi
@kidcmi 7 жыл бұрын
I don't use premium in mine all the time and it doesn't require it. I have the 3.2. Your Lincoln question is valid but I've found that buyers who like Euro design tend to stick with it. I think the Volvo has aged better. I get lots of comments on mine, which is Black w/ factory Chrome Venator wheels.
@Browningate
@Browningate 7 жыл бұрын
@Miko - You can run regular in it, but the computer will hold back in order to prevent engine damage, thereby further reducing performance and gas mileage. The Acura TL and Lexus ES from the time also "strongly encourage" higher octane, but have higher average gas mileage overall. That said, the Acura TL doesn't have cooled seats though, so there is that :-).

Yeah it doesn’t accelerate quick and the gas mileage is poor but is a nice car

The mkz gets 3mpg better highway but produces 50hp less and takes over 1.5 seconds longer to reach 60mph. Not to mention it won't match the Volvo in safety, reliability, longevity or comfort. You're delusional lmao.

My girlfriend's FIRST car was a 2000 Volvo S80 that she paid $10,000 in 2008. WHAT A MONEY-PIT VOLVO'S ARE!!! The high-price means high-reliability. These cars suck! The engine compartment is extremely cramped even in a non-turbo. To get a single part you need to take 4 other things out. They break down constantly and the parts are extremely expensive. My Girlfriend has replaced Transmission $3,500. Alternator $800. Axel shaft $700. ABS module $700. O2 Sensor $400. All within 16,000 miles.
