My 06 R6 has 27k miles and it’s been ticking away for a very long time with no issues. I’ve replaced plenty of parts and it still ticks, I believe it’s the injectors or coils based on what I know and have replaced on the bike.

Anyone running Amsoil's new metric line-up on the 15-50 viscosity on their 08-16 R6? I have a slight tick at around 2.5 3k under a load or just at idle revving it around that when the bikes hot like 199-205 degrees. After leaving town last night got the bike cooled down to 160 stopped and checked the tick was almost gone could hardly hear it. Is this the Yamaha tick? Probably.. Anyways I'm running SAE 10W-40 4T Full SYN Yamalube. Should I try some SAE 15W-50 4T Full SYN Yamalube? What do you guys prefer? Bikes a 2012 R6 With 12,500 miles. Bike is flashed with Bauce Racing. -Engine braking is reduced -Engine idle is raised -Radiator fans are set to come on at a lower temp -EXUP CEL removed - AlS is deleted and capped off - 520 pitch -1 + 1 gearing - sprint air filter - Maverick Titanium Headers - SC Project CR-T Slip On - CarbonSmith Velocity Stacks - DCR Series Camshaft

check the exhaust headers. they might be loose, like chaseontwowheels's r6

I have it too. My R6 pulls like a bat out of hell, super smooth too. Pisses me off. Sounds like I leave my machine in the rain and never change the oil lmao. Just did a full charging system revamp, new lean/kickstand sensor, coolant flush, oil change, plugs, chain, sprockets, head lights, air filter, yada yada. Still sounds like a valve clipping. I was told that it was the cam shaft tensioner...but my shop wants damn near 300$ to replace it. Im at 40k miles on my 04 how ever.

Hi, If you want to check what really is a ticking noise issue - check the engine sound of mine - this is 1st gear sprocket - to much loose between a collar - i just replaced to all new parts except the gears - mistake - should to do it only 8 months ago than issue is gone - any problem like this - check what i advices - good luck

Ignition coils. It's a normal sound of operation. My 07 with 14k does it, my friends 11 with 2k does it... hell... even my 13 Civic EX has had loud coils since I drove it off the lot. It's not your daddy's pickup ;) Japanese bikes and cars make weird sounds but it's normal. Best not to fixate on a problem that isn't there. I know the feeling. I was paranoid as fuck but eventually, like a dead pixel on an LCD monitor, you forget it's there.

Had the same noise. One of the exhaust pipes that come out of the engine was lose. Problem solved.

i have the yamaha r1 it has the same sound it drives me nuts but people say its normal

It won't go away when you pull the clutch in, it's just the engine revs drop and it become quiet so you think it's gone

Did u fix it yet the same sound on my bike but I did the chain tensioner it's still their it might have gotten a little quieter and then I was told needs valve adjustment have u fixed it?

Have the same noise on my 08 R6, everyone says it's the "Yamaha Tick" I think it's the lifters but everyone says it's normal. Engines make noise, put a louder pipe on it lol

does the ticking match the revs? please look at my video and see if it sounds similar to yours

That's the Yamaha tick alright mine does it to. I did some research apparently it's the butterfly system in the throttle body sticking doesn't cause damage just a tick guess it's possible.

Did it go away when you changed the cct? My bike makes the same sound. Was told to use 93 octane instead of 91 and the sound still doesn't go away. I've also been told its normal for r6's but I hate it when my baby makes uncomfortable noises lol

Does your bike make a weird noise on the left side when going under 10mph? Or when starting out after a stop? Almost like a light grinding noise... Mine ticks also

my 04 zx6r did the same,could be your CCT (cam chain tensioner) i owned the 07 r1 but never had that problem 2000-10000 miles of owning

i just got a 2008 r6 with 200miles and its doing the same thing so I guess that normal.. also when I pull the cluch in and shift to 1st its makes a short of winding sound what u think it is???

I don't think I ever heard that sound come out of my r6, or maybe I just haven't been paying that much attention. But I do remember chaseontwowheels having a ticking problem. If I remember correctly, he found out the ticking was coming from one of his headers, the bracket came loose causing the noise. All he did was bolt it back on.

Yea thats what ive been told also. I havent had any performance issues or problems atleast from what i can tell and it hasnt gotten any louder ( knock on wood), so idk. i plan on replacing the cam chain tensioner. i'll keep the video up and keep every1 posted. Congratz on the new 2013.

i have the same noise, on my 2010 R6...someone says its normal, while my friend told me that i need to replace timing chain, and maybe the tensioner...i have 28.000 miles on my bike..what do you say?

I just bought an 09 raven black and gold with 7700 miles and it makes the same noise but It looks everyone is saying that theirs make the sound too so that makes me feel better😂 it couldn't possibly need a valve adjust this early? But I guess anything is possible.

So I just bought a R6 2016 and it's making ticking noises aswell. wtf lol, I guess yamaha's make tick noises :/ hmmm interesting. I reed an article saying it was do to the butterfly valves but who knows heheh. I'm still taking it to the yamaha dealer tommarow not taking any chances.

every r6 ive owned has made this noise eventually.... :( it cant be quite concerning at times ! but best to leave it as it could cost u more in the long run replacing things and investigating something that just hasnt broken down yet :/ i doubt if its anything to worry about tho but if you want piece of mind take it to a trained technician
