This is a review of my 2009 Triumph Thruxton 900. I wanted to start here as it's familiar territory, but feel free to let me know what you think as I want to grow as much as I can.
Overall feel has always been a bit on the small cramped side for longer distances but it is a FUN bike!!!
Thanks to www.bensound.com/ for music.

Great bikes these... I've had 3 of them😁! They are surprisingly comfortable on the highway (I'm 5ft 10inch) stretch out with chest on the tank add some lower bars or clip-ons like the factory earlier versions came standard and you can punch out big miles in relative comfort. Ive ridden thousands of K's in 1 week and loved every moment on it. Torrential rain, frosty mornings, searing 45 degree Celsius heat, mountain climbs, endless stretches of lonely highways (Australia) and not once did it put a "wheel" wrong. They are a better bike fo the open road than stop and start traffic but it can be made to commute satisfactorily. Adding the following transforms these bikes from a Dr Jekyll to Mr Hide... grippy tires, sintered pads, upgraded suspension and perhaps dropping the front end fork height a fraction for a quicker turn-in. Then, air box/exhaust and tune will really liven these 865 Thruxtons up and make them sound and perform way better than you'd ever imagine. Lets just say a tuned version with a 75kg rider will see you easily sail past 210km/h (on an open circuit)😉. Fiddle around with the sprockets and you will be picking the front wheel up with relative ease. Great fun, not exorbitantly expensive, fairly easy to maintain, truck loads of character, beautiful aesthetics and a rewarding ride. Highly recommend and concur with Big Guy.

I may have to try some of your suggestions! All the other bikes come and go, buti can't let this one go!

Did changing the shocks make a big difference? Also mine just bottoms out at 110 or so, did the change of sprockets bring it down further?
@nikitis13
@nikitis13 Жыл бұрын
@@nuruzzaman4893 any set of rear shock upgrade will improve the ride and should prevent bottoming out if you are a heavier rider... A set of Ikons are more than enough for the road and relatively inexpensive. From memory I can't recall the exact sprocket size changes I had on mine but it managed to pull away from my mates Bonneville on the highway which had standard sprockets and a Wiseco 904cc big bore kit! 😄 so it's worth fettling around with. Enjoy.

Im seriously considering buying one of these. It'll be my first bike in 20 years, I used to have sports bikes and more recently, extremely fast cars but I'm bored of crazy fast vehicles, I want a relaxed and lazy bike which I can cruise around the Southern British country roads. This seems like just the bike for me and it's nice to know that it suits a taller rider.

Man, people always ask me about this bike when I ride it, and if you put some louder slip ons on, it roars like a spitfire and feels just as badass! I love it everytime I twist that throttle. No, it's not the fastest, but it's such a unique bike, you won't care!

It might be slow compared to other bikes on a big road. BUT you change the pipes, the induction etc and feel like a million bucks. AND you will feel like you’re fast, isn’t that the most important thing? 😉 According to size; I’m 6.2 and have some troubles getting comfortable. Difficult to get the knees grip the tank. But it doesn’t matter to much. It always gives me a smile! Tip: ride it with an open face helmet.

Always do my friend. I think I rode for one year out of thirteen with a full face and it felt wrong. I've got a v65 magna in the stable for the days I want to go fast haha.

Is this bike comparable to the recent speed twin 900? The seating position seems more aggressive on this bike compared to the ST? You seem like your leaning over to reach the handlebars. Wondering your thoughts ?
@bigguybikereviews857
@bigguybikereviews857 11 ай бұрын
I would think it would be very comparable, but the Thruxton has always had a more aggressive position for sure. I haven't sat on the speed twin, but I wonder if it's more similar to a standard bonnie?

I've always run the Bridgestone battleaxes on mine, and they've been pretty good. Decent for price and good for touring but still decent in corners too. I wasn't a huge fan of the Metzler's but I barely remember them!

Hi. I have Truxton 900 2011year and I have some electrical issues with the speedometer when I turn to steer to the right it shuts down. Did you ever experience that? I opened the whirring hornest under the fuel tank through the front lamp and could not find any errors. I would really aprishiate help.

Hey Chris, just found this video. I just got a 2008 carb version. You mentioned race tuning, can I do anything with carb version?

I would think open up the exhaust and upsize the Jets to compensate, and there are big bore kits available as well but that's looking at a few thousand minimum. I just had mine remapped once the new pipes went on. I haven't done anything else to it but would like to as I will never get rid of her.

Chris you didn't cover the important question; does it wheelie?? That exhaust note is fantastic how loud does it feel in the helmet at highway speed?

It will definitely wheelie LoL. It can get a bit loud after a while. I think at peak is around 116 db, so definitely want some earplugs!

Are there any known mechanical issues that someone should be wary of? Or, just any issues that you have run into?
@bigguybikereviews857
@bigguybikereviews857 2 жыл бұрын
As a long term owner, the only mechanical problem I have encountered was two years ago my bike would turn over but not start. I had spark, and even replaced the ignition system. I couldn't figure it out so once it was in the shop they found that a crank position sensor had failed which would not allow the bike to start. Other than that, my odometer failed around 30000km, and there was a recall for some 2009 era models for too short break calipers bolts. 99% of the time it's been trouble free as long as regular maintenance is done. Tires pads chain oil etc. Hope this helps my friend.

Hi, is there any model's year better than another ? On the 900cc i mean.
@bigguybikereviews857
@bigguybikereviews857 2 жыл бұрын
The only major difference between models is the pre 2009 are carbureted. There have been a few special edition releases that change the paint scheme but carved to EFI is the only mechanical difference in versions.

Haha I don't actually know. The odometer gear broke at around 35000 km and now I just enjoy it and give it what it needs. Like my old cat. If I had to guess we have to be getting close to 70 or 80k.

How could a man go about moving those footpegs forward to "standard" Bonneville type position? Is there a kit? Take it from a trucker who is formally trained in how to sit for a long period of time (yep, that's a thing). You want your femur bone (quad muscle part of your leg), as parallel to the ground as possible. This gives you the most even weight distribution and minimizes binding and pressure points. The way you are sitting on that bike with your femur pointed down towards the 5 o'clock position (instead of 3 o'clock which would be parallel to the ground) is loading your tail bone and hips with weight and pressure. This has probably more to do with your hip pain than age.
