Thanks for your video. I got a new tire put on last year and didn't think to have the final drive oiled. I don't have much money so this helps me avoid bringing it back for service.

Awesome video thank you. I have an XVS1100 but looks pretty similar. My old bike was a XVS650.

Thanks for the tutorial. Just changed my tires on my own for the first time, couldn't have done it without this video. One thing that was different on my 2003 vstar was there is no pocket for the rear brake drum support bolt to set into. They must have changed that on later models.thanks!

Great video! Thanks for all the little details and tips. Just got this bike for my wife, and need to change the back tire. But, nice to see how you do the front too, in case I need to put new pads on later. Thanks!

Very nice video. One thing though, the final drive assembly has more splines that are critical to check for dryness. These seem to be the ones that cause failure the most, and the final drive should be taken apart to check for grease.

Does anyone know what size those 4 bolts are that connect the drive to the frame on the rear tire?

Thanks! Getting ready to have tires installed and I need to get my wheels ready for carry in/drop off install. Watched a few videos and yours is very detailed. What lube should I apply to the final drive? I have low mileage on a 2008 V Star 650 (2,500 miles) but the tires are old and I’ve read it’s a good idea to lubricant the final drive when I have it apart. Any particular grease?
@cliffcares64553 жыл бұрын
I use regular bearing grease. Only need to coat the splines.

@Kirk M Thank you! I had purchased "Yamaha Yamalube Molybdenum Disulfide Grease - ACC-MOLDM-GS-05" that I used for this.

@@cliffcares6455 regular bearing grease is no good there and diff. should have been greased, 4 bolts to get at shaft splines
@kenwittlief25510 ай бұрын
it MUST be 60% moly lube paste any kind of grease will destroy the splines before your next oil change

Hello. Ty for the video. question: what lub do you use for the drive shaft ? And when do you change the drive shaft oil ? Thankies
@cliffcares64553 жыл бұрын
Welcome. I don’t lube the drive shaft but do put a little coating of grease on the rear wheel hub splines. As for the final drive oil. I couldn’t help you there. Best bet would be to call a Yamaha dealer and ask. Hope this helps. Ride safe.

I’ve got a 2015 650 Custom. Removed the wheels for rubber, got them back and installed them last night and now I’ve lost my speedo/odo/trip and gained an engine light, which I’m assuming are correlated because nothing else was touched by wheels and minor clutch adjustment at the hand control. Took the front wheel apart and cleaned up around that speedo housing and but still nothing. Any tips?

Do you have a sensor ring on your front wheel?
