200Hp/620Kg Austin MiniBusa || Hayabusa RWD Swap - ONBOARD

This is the Austin Mini (Minibusa) of Steve Midgley, powered by a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa engine, fitted in the rear/middle of the car and chain driven to the rear wheels, making it RWD. Producing approximately 200Hp/11.000Rpm, all this power has only 620Kg to move.
All hand-built by Mr. Midgley in under 3 years, this little machine has went on to win the New Zealand Super Mini Challenge open class championship 3 times and the overall championship twice. Having competed in many hill climbs and street sprints during this time period, it has also been a regular on Rod Millen´s Leadfoot Festival in the last editions, where it was possible to watch it attack this unique driveway in anger. This is actually my Dads car, unfortunately this year he crashed in the top 10 shootout. We are always looking for ways to make her faster and take even more weight off, we have even contemplated putting a wing on too. Hopefully we will be back again and try and show what it can really do 👍

I had my turbo Busa ( bike ) pushing 450bhp, but many have them at 600bhp on the road. Why is your dad keeping it NA tuned, comp class? can't he build one with a turbo, that car with 600bhp would do some amazing times, and little sag with a twin T setup. Anyway hope he's back on the track soon!

@hardergamer, we have looked at putting a turbo on it and we haven’t said no to it yet either, at the moment it has plenty of power for the weight as I’m sure you would understand. Our priority at the moment is downforce because we don’t do much circuit work anymore and prefer hill climbs. We have never had any trouble with the engine which My dads father recovered from a crashed bike before I was born.

The wonderful thing about an original Mini is that you can mess with it ten ways to Sunday, and it will still be a fun car. You'll only get sideways glances from some people, but because they're so common, you won't get many screams of how you've defiled its purity. Bike engines in little cars are almost always a good thing in my book.

@@hugh-johnfleming289 no I'm saying that the rev range is very impressive compared to your average car going up there. A lot of cars were hitting 3rd and 4th in parts, so to be doing that whole course in 1st and 2nd is awesome

There´s a proper market for this kind of conversion and a lot of solutions are already developed to make it easier so its normal to see the Busa engone being swapped into race cars so often ;)

It's a very lightweight engine, due to its normal use case in a bike. These guys look to shave lb/kg wherever possible. That, and the high revving.

If only it had more POWARRRRRRR!!! Needs more angry "Hornets" under the hood! Great car, well planted too, I'd be interested in seeing the suspension setup on video (Because I highly doubt that I will ever see it in person). I bet it's no longer on the stock rubbers, some nice double wishbones would be good haha

I assume these things keep the motorcycle gearbox and clutch. I’ve always wonder how they fair with the extra weight.

Put a top fuel motorbike engine in that mini :D they make about 1500 BHP imagine the power/weight ratio of it

The busa engine is not very reliable tho as always see them on ebay blew up. The Kawasaki 1400 is the one to go for atm. More power torque and not heard of one blown up yet
