Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video -- I hate paying the dealer for things I think should be doable... but without your video I never could have done this.... It took me a little longer since I'm not very strong.. getting the glove compartment out was definitely the hardest part.

Would have been good if he explained the direction the air filter goes. It is in the instructions that come with it, but still be good to mention.

Glad you have the air flow arrow pointing down. The dealer and other videos point it up because they think the arrow on the cover means that, but the arrow on the cover has nothing to do with air direction. Also,, I printed a big note I hang on the outside of my glove box telling the mechanics to not check my cabin filter. That saves wear and tear on the glovebox and them spilling my stuff. Nice video, thanks. PS, get the filters from Amazon in multi packs. I change them after every road trip. Engine filter too.

Thank you so much. Dealer charged me $85 last time to replace my filter. I vape in my car regularly so the $25 filter clogs up every 6 months apparently. This vid saved me $120 a year easily.

You can’t see in the video because it’s blurry but the arrows should be pointed facing down. It might seem straightforward to some of you but I noticed my mechanic last put it on backwards previously. Hope this helped someone. Even another expert video on KZfaq had the filter go on the wrong way for the Prius.

A place was going to charge me $50 bucks for this, but when they pulled it out in 20 seconds I figured that I could just do it myself....so easy... for that price I can replace the filter 4 times as often.

changing the cabin air filter helps reduce dirt, dust and smell coming into the compartment when you're using your A/C or when you recirculate fresh air into the compartment. You want to change it every 15k miles depending on if you live in an air polluted city or not.

Great video that helped me a lot, was about to get charged 85$ for this. Im on a mission to find out why my car smells like cat pee and there has never been a cat in my car ever. This is one of the stops on my mission to find and get rid of the smell. I am the original owner and it's only a 2015. SO its puzzling to say the least.

Just a quick question, the plastic cover has an arrow facing up but the arrow on the air filter is facing down? I just don't want to assume that is correct?

the arrow indicates air flow, the air is coming from the top down, so the arrow should be pointing down. That's why there's dirt particles on top of the cabin air filter.

Which way does the cabin fliter airflow arrow go, arrow up or arrow down?

The air flow should point down since you have debris on top of the cabin air filter.

Thanks for this! Two things: my glove box now falls open when I press the button. What did I do wrong? Also, my filter was covered with dog hair, like it was forming a layer that resembled shag carpet (previous owner had dogs). Does this indicate my HV battery fan is a mess too? Again, thanks for this video series!

+BTM37 The reason your glove box just drops is because you might have forgotten to reconnect the glove box dampener, its on the right side. It probably fell off when you remove the glove box or something, but you need that for the glove box to not drop immediately. As for the dog hair, I would check the fan to see if its affected by the dogs in the vehicle. The 2nd generation was known to have heating problems with the HV battery due to dog hair being stuck on the HV fan. The only way is to clean the fan and you won't have a overheating problem with the HV battery.

SuperKsimons no they shouldn't, try pulling one side at a time. The glove box is a stiff plastic piece now, before it was soft. Just gotta wiggle it back and forth with strength, but don't break it.

SHIBA GT-R the air from outside will be blowing down onto the cabin air filter, if both side of your carbon cabin air filter looks the same, it wouldn't matter. But if your carbon cabin air filter is facing only 1 way, make sure its facing up so that it catches the dirt and pollen from outside.

Most of the cites say the arrow points down, and the fan does draw from the outside (up) and blows down into the car. The debris on top of the filter says it all to me.

Depends on the brand. If it says "UP" next tobtgexarrow then it indicates which side goes up. If it doesn't say "UP" then it should point in the direction of the air flow which is down.

The air flow goes down, but if your air filter say to be up, then it’s up, if it says air flow points down, then it’s down. If you look at the cabin air filter, you can see that the dirt and leaves are laying on top of the cabin air filter, so you know that the air from outside is flowing down towards the top of the cabin air filter. I hope that made sense. Let me know.

@@jonjonEZmusic yes, from what I see on the cover, it’s just the orientation of the plastic cover being up, or it could mean the air flow is coming from the top? Plus, the plastic piece only goes in one way anyway.
