Drove one recently, and i can say it is a little rocket. I love it and it 100% can be a daily for me, i plan on buying one soon, because its lowkey yet a fun car!

I would not consider this a step down. Normally aspirated engine (n52) is reliable and easier to work on then the turbo (n54-n55) engine. It does have smaller brakes then the 135i. But still a ton of fun to toss around. There is an M-sport version of the 128i as well.

That is the reason I went with a 128 I daily it and did not want the repair costs of thoes turbos and carbon build up of direct injection.

I drive an RS3 which can basically blow the doors off most cars, M3s included. I also have a 6MT 128I, and let me tell you, that car is more fun to drive on the streets. More engaging, awesome feeling hydraulic steering, and I can push the heck out of it without landing in handcuffs.

Depends on if you need the extra space or not. Same engine and transmission combinations with a 300lb weight difference. So it really comes down to which you prefer looks wise and if you want a sedan or coupe

That paddle shifter going both ways is pretty stupid lol I'm glad my 2013 128i has one way shifters that are normal

I don't know if you know this but the 128i is well considered the best out of the 1 series by BMW experts. They feel the engine and ride is actually better in the 128i than the 135. So, its actually not a step down as you said. Just FYI ..

How would you compare this to a 15 vw gti? Also would it fit a babyseat in the back?

A baby seat would be very cramped. And it's a completely different car. The performance is there, but being RWD vs FWD, they're gonna handle in a way that is not comparable.

Do these cars have issues and break down often? I’m considering buying one with 128k miles but i hear a lot of stuff about bmw

The more powerful engine in the same family, the N54, has its fair share of issues. However this engine is just fine. It's the same engine without the use of turbochargers. That engine is in the 135i. 2 of my friends have 135i's and they love them and make great power, however it is a car that needs constant tinkering. But you shouldn't have any worries with a 128.

Maintenance is your best friend when it comes to any European car. A well taken care of N52 engine is very reliable. Also, it's just a nice and smooth engine!

@@obi_lucas2042just make sure the previous owner has done their maintenance. Ask if the electric water pump and thermostat has been replaced. Check the cam cover and oil pans. BMWs love to leak oil from their gaskets. The cam cover isn't to bad to replace. BMW parts are not that expensive, but BMW labor is ridiculous. Working on them isn't that bad.

I have a Msport 2009 and 2013 (last year for US production) my 2013 has comfort access. I believe the 2012 was when it started. Good luck on your search for a 128i!

@@rocktauber Your right, in retrospect the German flag ahead of the rear wheels really does make the car look so much better. It looks really cool now and so very very classy.
