He didn't show using brake cleaner to clean off the rotors. This is a crucial step. Also, I wouldn't use anti-seize on the back of the pads. I would use Moly lube that comes with the akebono pads, only need to put a dot right in the middle. The official Toyota maintenance videos on this on KZfaq.

Great video. That bolt that secures the brake line bracket is the exact same size as the single threaded hole on the rotor, so it can be used to push off the rotor in case it is stuck. Also, channel locks can damage the piston seals if not careful so I just push the pistons using the old pads with a clamp or pliers while they are still in place.

the hard break line followed by the flexible line is done that way for off road purposes in mind.

Those rotors were basically brand new looking, lol. They didn't need replacing at all

Great video! How many miles do you have that you needed to change rotor? I have 60k and ready to do the first pad change but I don’t think I need to change to rotors.

My truck is just under 100k now. Measure the thickness of the rotors and if they are within spec and aren't vibrating, you are probably fine. I have always replaced rotors and pads during brake changes, it's just something I do

Correct, ended up getting the rotors from the dealer. You could pick up good aftermarket rotors too, like brembo or something similar

Replace them when they are below thickness. I replace rotors every time I replace pads, which is overkill for most people, but rotors are fairly cheap

Why did you change the brake disc they are still new and can be used 3 times more just change the brake pad it will be enough and 1/3 the price

I always change to new rotors when doing brakes, reduces chances for warping, and they aren't that expensive. Been doing brakes this way for 21 years. 👍

I wonder why you replaced the rotors? Were they scored? I really couldn’t see anything wrong with them but maybe it didn’t show on camera. I’m gonna do my 4Runner but I don’t want to spend money on parts I don’t need.

The rotors were probably fine, I always replace rotors when doing brakes for peace of mind, been doing it that way for 20 years and old habits are hard to break

Why did you use a wrench and hammer to remove the bolts on the calliper versus a breaker bar?

Just an old habit really, these vehicles have plenty of space to get whatever tool you want to use in there

I noticed some rust in the brake pistons. Is that something to worry about?

Rust in or on the Pistons? The piston needs to slide freely back and forth in the caliper and is protected by a dust boot. If the boot is torn you may be getting water in there which will eventually size the calip and you'll need to rebuild or replace it

Lexus is way overcharging for services. Dealer quote me nearly $800 for 30k services. The parts were less than $100 online and I was able to do it in 2 hours. $350 / hr labor is ridiculous

Yep, it's robbery Most of these services are dead simple and can be done with basic hand tools, congratulations on saving yourself some cash
