The team who brought it home in South Africa is still referred to as the Golden Generation of Spanish football, and today, 12 years after their triumph, we want to see where the starting XI of that Golden Generation are.

Their starting XI itself was this scary that we forget that these guys played while fernando torres, cesc fabregas, victor valdes, david silva, juan mata were all on the bench. Thats how scary spain was from 2008-2012

Spain 2010 was pretty much Barcelona 2010-11 without Barca's star player and they still dominated the world cup. That should tell you just how good that Barcelona team was.

As a german, i heard fans bitch about how we could have won more trophies between 2006-2016. But how are you supposed to with such a one of a kind national team? Nobody could touch the spanish between 2007-2012.

As a Dutch person this amazing Spain team made me cry myself to sleep for the only time in my life. One of these videos on the Dutch players in this final would be interesting, seeing as some absolutely shocking players made an appearance (like Elia, Braafheid) as opposed to the Spain team which were filled with mostly legends

The 2 subs who came into the final ; Cesc Fabregas & Fernando Torres are worth mentioning. Torres was a fantastic man of the match in the 2008 euro final under the previous coach. It was essential in building the base. In that final, his main contribution was that throw-in to Cesc Fabregas. The latter made the assist in the 2010 final but just as important; he was possibly the best player at Spain's next tournament in Euro 2012. He had to play as a false-9 because Villa & Torres both got injured and missed the 5 games between 1st match & the final. Fabregas thrived in that role and the main man in carrying out Del Bosque's tactics. It was a genius piece of improvisation bv the coach too because any other country would have been eliminated without a Centre forward. Del Bosque lost both of his strikers after the first game....only Spain can win a tournament without a recognized number 9.

At the time, Fabregas was my all time favorite (and Villa my favorite starter). However, now I’ve come to love and respect Puyol and the legendary dedication he has to club and country

It was unfair that they had Casillas in goalpost, Ramos, Puyol, Pique in defence.. Xavi Iniesta Busquet in midfield David Villa, Tores in forward altogether at a time...totally unfair

yes, but his ability to read the game, his work rate in defending and chasing the ball, as well as his clinical tackles are all irreplaceable in the defense.

Well he had injury problems , yet he was brought on as substitute in the final against Netherlands. He was involved in the final third in which Iniesta scored.( Torres -> Fabregas -> Iniesta). #El_Nino #9

I think Spanish X is pronounced more like the CH in “Bach” and less like the “zh” sound in “vision”. And it’s definitely not pronounced like the J in “jelly”.
