Thanks for the detailed video. As a women I was able to do my own oil change after getting tired of people trying to scam me for being a women.

I feel the exact same way and also watched this video so that I could change my own oil! (It was so helpful)! It gets so frustrating dealing with some people who act like asshats because I'm female. Years back I had a Toyota Celica GTS and I went to the parts store to pick up some power steering fluid (I think, I don't remember specifically as it's been awhile) however it was actually to be used for something else and the guy talked to me like I was a poor little dumb girl because I actually thought I was supposed to use that kind of fluid when "no silly that goes in the power steering"...until he looked it up and saw I was correct and that he was the idiot! I also went in one time to get my AC checked cause it had stopped working. My son was preschool age and we lived in Florida and it was the middle of summer. The guy quoted me a price of nearly $1000. I was a single mom and knew then it was going to be miserable for the next 4 months. He asked when I was going to be able to bring it in and I said I wouldn't because I couldn't afford it. He said something along the lines of naw, you can talk to someone into paying for it being female and cute and young! I was like what is that supposed to mean and he backtracked a bit and was like I only meant that surely this little boy's grandparents won't let him go all summer with no AC (I have no parents/family...was completely on my own) so that didn't fly either! But yes I know what you mean!

You can poke a hole so the filter drains when removing only :)

Ok im a girl (woman) and am going to change my oil for the first time. I also have a 2011 Acura MDX. Does the vehicle have to be completely cool when you change the oil? Where/what do i get to replace that washer? (I see your link inbthe description however that link goes to the funnel not the washer). If i go to the parts store what do i ask for (so i dont have to wait for it to be shipped). Do i turn off the vehicle to check the oil afterwards or check it while running? Any other tips you have for a first timer?

You can go to oreillys and ask for the drain plug washer and they’ll confirm the part. The vehicle does not have to be completely cool but you should let it sit for a while so the oil settles back into the pan and you also don’t want to burn yourself with hot oil. Check the oil level with the engine off. God luck! You can do it!

I like to let it drain until it is a very slow drip. I want as much dirty oil to be removed as possible. While it is draining there are plenty of other things you can do.

Have you done a timing belt service on the Acura yet ?

No. It was done by the previous owner.

@@SpeedCultureStudios to the extend lol. i have friends who hit gym daily and I'm sure none of them would ever brag about how strong they're enough to twist off an oil filter like that

Did that filter work for the car ?

Yes indeed. It may have just been the body design that made it look bigger or whoever changed the oil last put the wrong one on. In any case, a larger filter won’t hurt. If anything it allows for slightly more oil.
