still got my green corn indy flag next to the tv from that race !!! - if Dan wasn't racing he was an EXCELLENT ANNOUNCER - really made it easy for the fans to understand what's going on and his passion for indycar made it exciting.

Hearing Dan Wheldon on the commentary kind of makes me sad. He was one of my favorite drivers back in the day. Was thrilled to see him win the 2011 Indy 500.

Wheldon's ride at Indy was a one-off for Bryan Herta. Until Indy, Wheldon was actually rideless for 2011 after being ditched by Panther Racing. In fact Wheldon's only other start was the season finale at Kentucky for Sam Schmidt where he finished 14th. _Yes I know Vegas, but since that race was scrapped it didn't count either way in the record books, & since we're discussing Wheldon, I rather _*_not_*_ discuss Vegas at all..._

Okay so let me tell you guys something back in 2008 in Iowa I was around 9 and a half years old in the crowd after the race anyways we were about to leave I was a bit nervous when Dan Wheldon came out I just fainted

it's weird seeing comments from people who don't remember this era in indycar, seems like yesterday. andretti's 2nd and last win, he really deservs that ride. also, the ugly crapwagons with the horrible exhaust note...

these cars sounded, and looked, amazing. your lying to yourself if you believe otherwise, because that belief that these cars didn't look or sound anything less then perfect is bullshit. i remember this era in Indycar. and i cherish it. these are the single most brilliant open wheel cars ever made, and nothing can even come remotely close looks or sound wise.

It's so pathetic that Marco only got 2 wins compared to Michael's 42 wins and Championship and Mario's F1 AND Indycar AND THREE USAC championships. It's like they get worse by the generation. I bet Marco's kid will get no wins, that's how ridiculous this "Andretti legacy" bullshit is to me. It's just blatant nepotism overriding all critical thought with some racing fans. Literally Danica Patrick was a better driver, she only got one win but her scorecard per season was almost ALWAYS higher.

Nah Iowa is a great short oval! I've been there twice and both races had spectacular finishes.
