The videos never do this race justice. This is the one race I never miss every year. The best part of the whole thing though is the week leading up to the race. Watching people attempt the course in their personal vehicles is even better than the race.

@torx82 This race was 120 miles. 100 drivers start 2 at a time 30 seconds apart. Finishing positions are time adjusted.

Hey guys, what's that handle bar I saw one of the navigator holding on to? Is it some sort of control for the axles or is it there just for holding on? Excuse the ignorance on the sport.

@Jeepfan4x4 They dont switch nearly as often as you would think. The shocks are totally rebuildable. Its not exactly cost effective to replace a shock that can cost around $4000 Each.

i like KOH cuz its like they try to finess the rock parts but as soon as that doesnt go well they gun it and pin the throttle til they're through. i wish i could afford to drive that way

News flash the electricity you used to transmit this message, the plastic your computer is made out of, the synthetic fibers in your backpack; well they all are products or bi-products of petroleum and or petroleum distillets. It is everywhere and all around you. The KOH race is an all terrain race. One of the features that distinguishes it from BAHA is the rock crawling. It is not possible to drive fast while traversing such treacherous terrain. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

@pretzel1253 You get better axle articulation with a solid axle. The whole axle moves up and down, you get more drop.

King of the Hammers is an off road race. Rockcrawling is a hobby that many people enjoy and it is a lot of fun (obviously you've never done it), the objective here is to have your feat of engineering outperform the other guy's feat of engineering to show that you know what you're doing. Also, I call BS on it being environmentally harmful, the "pollutants" that the fuel from these rigs is putting out is nothing compared to way back when all these now dormant volcanoes were erupting

I am guessing you have also never watched NASCAR, F1, or any other motorsport event. You would probably go post on all those videos that they aren't going anywhere and keep ending up in the same spot and don't understand the point. :)

Not much of a race when you have 10 cars turned off waiting for one guy to get out of the way.

@ConsumerOfNothing Motorsports are about racing, not listening to the drivers yammer. Go to a real race sometime and see how much time on the announcer's mic the drivers get. If you don't like the onboard audio, seems to me you must either have a crappy audio system on your 'puter, or no love of vehicles. Perhaps you would be happier with one of those "reality" shows where it is about the drama instead of the action.

Why do they drive this when clearly it would be asier to hike these trails ...I mean a nice pair ok hiking shoes and a back pack you're good to go , and it seems like they are crawling and not really makingi t very far very fast , So it just seems like they are going about sight seeing these trails the wrong ...plus foot travel is so much more friendly to enviroment compared to using combustion driven motorized travel , which that fuel used only supports terroism in conjunction with pollution .

I walk to work take the bus on medium trips , and only fire up the Chevy Volt for long trips if absoulutely needed ...it just seems to me that this driving is senseless frivolity that serves no clear usefull purpose ...I've since watched a few " Rock Crawling " videos after stumbling on this odd video , and I've noted that many times the 4x4 vehicle is struggling to climb up something that could easily be walked up cheaply ??? Seems like a sport for the out of shape ?
