This could do a brutal 0-60 if 2nd gear was a tad longer. That shift and boost takes a good second off of the net time I bet

Yes, I did rev it out to 7500 rpm one day to do a 0-60 mph in 3.74 seconds. At around 7300 rpm the car hits 60 mph in second gear. Saving the shift got the 0-60 time way down. Its actually slower however, if you want to keep accelerating so shifting at around 6k region is best.

Man that shift right before 60 just kills the time. A slight raise of the rev limiter and it's well into the 4's.

The car is manual, The auto on the dash refers to the Differential control being set to auto which does its own awd torque splitting.

The auto STi trans can hold around 450 safely. They recommend rebuild before trying to go beyond 500. The STi manual have seen 550-600 without needing rebuilds. My 0-200kph is now around 14-15 making 400hp

@sergsrt8 No, the settings activate an electronic clutch which increases the lock of the center diff. When the center diff is fully unlocked the natural ratio of the center diff is 65/35 approximately (35% to rear). By activating and turning up the electronic controls you can effectively lock the center diff meaning 50/50 split. This amount of adjustment may not sound like much, but I have first hand experience with how drastic a change it can be.

Yes stock it was 255hp 262ft/lbs at the wheels for the 305hp flywheel rating. After stage 2 mods and methanol injection, the car is making 365hp and 409ft/lbs at the wheels.

@Januch009 The stock SPT gauge uses a vacuum hose that goes through the firewall. That is a major undertaking I honestly don't now how they do it in under 3 hours. I once fished a wire though that same hole they used and it took me over an hour for a simple wire. They put a T fitting in the wastegate tube I do believe for the vacuum reference. In my 2009 WRX i used a Harbor freight boost gauge with hard plastic vacuum tube. It worked, but the boxer engine made the gauge needle rattle onceawhile

Was just random event. Didn't know it was a bad ring landing for quite a while. Just noticed a bit shy on oil every oil change. Drove almost 5000 miles like that before deciding to rebuild. The block didn't even need bored but the ring landing was 50% broken. Wasn't even down no power, I would bet a lot of people drive around with broken ring landings and don't even know it.

And regardless of whether the stang could beat an STi around a track or could get better gas mileage, take it to dirt or snow ;) I don't care what advantages the Mustang has, STi is way more versatile and capable.

@AngryLlamaz Yes. Mostly it is the number 4 piston that will go. There is a mod that is highly recommended for 300+hp and that is parallel fuel rails which will help the number 4 cylinder from running lean. Also running a walbro 255 fuel pump also helps prevent piston failure. If you keep your tune in the 10.8 to 11.2 AFR ranges at 350hp or less with these two mentioned mods, the chance of piston failure is very little.

@sergsrt8 Yeah the 50/50 helps 0-60 by keeping more power to the rear. When the car lunches with diff fully unlocked, the unloading of the front wheels causes most of the power to go to the front tires and spin them. With fully locked you can keep them all spinning same rate so you will have more power at the rear wheels until they too spin. With the diff unlocked you gotta be careful with throttle or you can get the back end to snap out and if your not ready for it, you will face the wrong way.

If the STI had a slightly longer 1st and 2nd gear it would be so much quicker to 60. That shift into third kills its acceleration 0-60 even though it technically outperforms so many cars.

@IkillV8 Its been amazing. After loosing ring landing in #4 and putting forged in $2300 with ARP head studs, I now don't even worry about the engine anymore. 23psi + meth injection its a fun ride. In the wet it rips tires free in 1st-2nd in just S-mode (15lbs boost with diffs locked).

@maximapitko Yes, I had raised rev limit to 7500 in order to get a 2nd gear 0-60 time. Unfortunately I only tried it twice and haven't recorded it yet. I plan to record this soon and hopefully have a mid 3 second 0-60. However by doing this I extend the powerband outside the optimal range so although the 0-60 time would be great acceleration beyond that would have been slowed down by the 7300-7400 shift dropping it outside the optimal powerband in 3rd gear.
@HellTriX
@HellTriX 12 жыл бұрын
@sergsrt8 Yes forged wiseco pistons. The rods and crank, etc have been known to be good to 600-650 hp levels. The heads may not flow enough to reach 600-650 hp though. and can't rev stock heads much above 7500, usually around 7700 before valve float. The stock bottom end with forged pistons can do around 8000-8200 before reliability is a concern. Oiling becomes a problem above 8500 usually resulting in engine failure if you don't do oil system changes including new crank.
@HellTriX

@bikenbowman Yes these are both true. The WRX has better ratios for sub-100mph drag racing. But the suspension is one of the best reasons for the STi. But, that's not all, the differentials in the STi, both front, rear and center diffs, is what makes the STi truly shine. The WRX might be quicker in a straight line to 100mph, it will be completely destroyed on curvy roads or track. I have had both and speak from experience. The STi is, mountains faster when driving in the...Mountains :)

I wouldn't launch a 2009 WRX. I had one before my STi. Your transmission will most probably last under 50 launches. STi trans so much stronger, can go hundred or thousands of launches before having issues. My Best advice, is put your rpm at 3000 rpm and slip the clutch out until your rolling. At the same time you floor the gas, you should disengage the clutch fast enough so the RPM always stays at 3000rpm until your off and racing. This keeps you from dumping clutch, burning clutch, breaking.

I haven't received my paperwork yet, but I think I might sell it for $37k. That sounds like a lot for used, but the list of race parts, stereo system, and new forged motor will appeal to anyone wanting an STi to tune. I am not demoding the car in any way. That's my plan.

20,000 miles on the clock, Premium gas price $4.30/gal, 16.5mpg average over 20k, 1212 est gallons. $5212 dollars full cost 1/8th of the cost of the car for only 20k miles. Not counting oil changes, by 130k miles, You could buy a new STi in just the fuel cost alone. So yes... People care about gas.

@WRXisdabest I literally deleted my mufflers. I just have a cat and a mid-pipe resonator. Combined with the turbo it is actually quieter than some of the after market exhausts. As far as fitment, they fit, but the tips dont extend out of the back of the car far enough. It works but someone who is picky with looks would notice it.

@BelfastCol69 Its been remapped several times, the the HP is currently around 330whp, but the torque is closer to 370ft/lbs. The problem is the turbo run out of steam on these 2.5L engines in the upper RPMs. So with more torque than HP, I just make my shift points earlier than 7,000 rpm and it does pretty good. But this STi has an extra 500lbs than your Golf R. At around 6000rpm to 7000rpm the injectors are maxed out and the AFRs are stable, so need more fueling to get more HP.

@knurri Your tuner is wrong then :) I have FFS and have already tested it. Not only that but I have a different RPM for each gear when flatfoot shifting. When the clutch is depressed the extra programming we added to the ECU changes the rev limiter to a new value for each gear. He is right the ECU cuts rpm, but it cuts it to whatever RPM we program it too. I have other videos showing a small demo of this, once the streets are dry I will do a proper video of it.

@9dewittk Before I upgraded my engine, transmission, and shift bushings, I had often 2nd and 3rd gear grinds when shifting fast. The method I used in this video before upgrading those parts was to scoot my seat a click or two closer than I normally drive so that I could get the clutch pedal to hit the floor faster. If the clutch pedel hits the floor (throttle released during clutching), I can usually pull off a second gear shift without it grinding, but not every time.

The sti doesn't run a 13.3 "easily." Most owners seem to be stuck right around the 14.0 zone at about 100 mph (ie about the same as a stock v6 mustang now). Also the new Mustang handles quite well, and would hold its own against the understeering Subaru. The new v6 mustang is amazing for the price. 4 cylinder gas mileage, v8 like grunt with a cheap sticker price. Subaru needs to step its Sti up.

I did a baseline today and my OS tune isn't quite there yet, still running way rich, but was doing that as a safety margin, gonna lean it out a bit tomorrow. One thing I noticed is that I can't log the Feedback knock correction so I am a little nervous about leaning it out at the moment. Its pulling hard though, in my test zone I could normally get to 130mph before my braking point, today I could only manage 115 so not quite there.

@bikenbowman Get the STI. I just got one and I'm 18. If you can pull it off, get the STI. Way worth it.

@hellfire6333 Should be better than H6. Stock STi get 19.6 mpg city and 22mpg hwy or so. If you go with a good stage 1-2 tune, you can get 20mpg city and 26-28mpg hwy.

You hold your traction control button for 5 seconds. It turns green then after 3 seconds should turn orange. Completely disabling traction control. I can't do it though tune but I do it manually every time I start my car as a habit.
