Very accurate video! I had 3 of the mentioned issues! VTC gear does not need to be replaced, only the spring inside it can be changed. I have done that on my CR-V '14, pretty simple fix. I also had belt tensioner worn out, as well as the shuddering of transmission (fixed by drain n refill) Fortunately no oil consumption for me since I change oil 3-5k always. This car needs maintenance, needs attention twice a year.

These are a typical honda. Simple and reliable, but usually fail due to neglect. Not a super nice or sporty car but it gets the job done if you just want an A to B car.

Something to add to your list are the back seat fold down catches, there’s a nylon piece in the seat catch which snaps easily and you can’t fold them down, cheap and easy to replace.. otherwise a fantastic car with the issues you have mentioned

I have a well maintained 2013 CRV with 95,000 miles and have not had any of the issues you mentioned in the video, especially, no oil consumption.

We have a 2013 EX-L navi just turned 200,000 no major issues so far just brakes ,tires ,oil changes and trans service . No oil consumption issues or rattles on start up I have a 2018 also and have already changed injectors and a high side A/C hose

Decades & cars later I'm back in a new Civic always looking for any advantage to stave off costly future issues. So, I guess I'm a subscriber for at least the life of the car😅.

Did the vtc gear and solenoid on my 08 Accord and fixed the rattle! Was so embarrassed when it rattled

My 08 i had oil consumtion issue i changed the pcv and change the oil to 5w30 and it solved that issue changing oil at every 3k .at 2000k mark it was down 1/2 a quart so image waiting 5k ,its just to long for intervals .k24 ran better sounded better with 5w30.the slight ping went away and start up sounded better on cold starts .i did this to my friends 2010 crv and same results problem was solved. I also changed my battery to a group 35 650cca .got away from the gocart battery .battery was to small for the car .helped a lot in dead winter in Massachusetts. The struggle wasnt there anymore at start up

The starter motors sometimes die on the 2.4L engines. Apparently, it's quite common for the starter motors to intermittently "click" but not spin. If using an aftermarket starter, apparently, some engines then get an intermittent code for the crank angle sensor. I don't know if it's because some aftermarket starters are cheap and nasty or because aftermarket starters are often fitted by non-Honda mechanics without Honda's instructions, and they end up damaging the wiring loom. In any case, my wife's car is about to get a genuine Honda starter motor fitted at a Honda dealer because the current one is on its last legs, intermittently throwing the bendix but not spinning (yes, it has been properly diagnosed, no it isn't the battery, key, immobiliser, etc). Hers is an Australian spec 2016 VTi-L 2.4L 5sp auto AWD. Australia didn't get the 1.5L turbo/CVT powertrain until model year 2018 (gen 5), and for the gen 4, VTi-L is the top spec version, whatever that equates to in the USA.

There is a TSB for the transmission shudder. Honda reprograms the transmission and replaces the fluid. 60k miles when we had ours done and it’s been great ever since.

I'm owning 2012 crv 100,000 kms, the shifter seal on the trans was change causing leak.. Other than that i didn't face any issues i still didn't change any parts of the engine only regular servicing.

Got both the start up and acceleration problems and haven't really bothered with them. It's a minor annoyance people throw money at just to have it go out again in 2 months, why bother?

I have an engine shudder and power loss on highways when accelerating but not when maintaining speed. From what Ive read it could be a bad spark plug? they have 100K km on them. Maybe?

I rotated my tires I checked them as I'm driving out of the garage it's still vibrant. Any idea what it could be?

My 08 crv had the tensioner issue I heard very slight on slight load .car was at 75 k .when I change my serp belt I change the tensioner anyways part of my preventative maintenance .so I changed them both even though belt was still fine and looked like it was replaced at one point.peace of mind and knowing my maintenance

Curious what you'd say about these. A 2013 EX (2WD) was my wife's previous ride until she upgraded earlier this year to a 2023 Ody. Only notable issue not self inflicted was the VTC actuator, did it's rattle but living in the desert where it rarely gets near freezing (never mind see anything resembling snow or slush) reproducing the issue is kind of a pain. Got it changed at the dealership but the noise returned after a while, though it does happen even more infrequently. Saw a rear door seal come loose shortly after we got the car but some 3M adhesive for the specific purpose fixed that and it never came unstuck. Backup camera mount broke and it was a pain to make it right. Serviced at the dealership for all of it's time with us, either every 6 months or every year (never exceeding a 6K mile interval in either case). No oil consumption nor any other notable issues. A few dead batteries mostly due to bad quality of the batteries themselves, the Honda thing of killing all interior lights when alarm is activated was a life saver for a car that saw 2 kids go from newborn to at least 5 y.o. Self inflicted issues where a broken wiper fluid reservoir that then damaged the corresponding pump after driver hit something. Had both taken care of at a service visit. From a few scuffs had a few panels of the car repainted, but the plastic trim was just sanded to not look as offensive. When we where looking at buying the 2023 Odyssey, we had the CRV appraised by the dealership to see if it made sense to trade in. They quoted that it needed: new tires (where starting to show sings of dry rot but still not close to the wear bars, I did forsee that one), re-doing the driver side seat bolster's foam, as it was sagging a bit (true, but nickpicking to drive the price down), new shocks (not sure about the truthfulness on that one since it hasn't been brought up in other maintenance visits to that same dealership afterwards) and getting a few new pieces of plastic trim since they "couldn't sell it with the restored plastic trim pieces" (nitpicking for bargaining). They lowballed us, but ended up selling the car to my dad at the lowballed price since his low slung Mazdaspeed 3 was now a bit inconvenient for his 80 y.o. parkinson's addled body, but I still oversee it's maintenance. We'll get it some new tires within the next 6 months as dry rotting has, obviously, not gotten better but wear has increased a bit more. No other issues currently. It's a great car and my wife does miss it, she's happy with the Ody but misses the more "chuckable" feel of the, always reliable CRV.

I got a question. How many miles or years are you seeing the newer LED headlights and tail lights last? Not talking about the DRL's but the actual headlights. From what I understand, the entire unit needs to be replaced unlike the older halogen lights where you would just replace the bulb. So a set of new LED headlights would run around $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 for parts and labor, maybe even more. And thats for Honda's. Acura is way way more

My parents have a '14 CRV (overseas not in USA) that would intermittently shut-off while driving. Typically, when the road is a little inclined uphill and driving slowly. Its a rare occurrence, but is annoying and often dangerous at times. Do you know what the issue could be, is that a common thing with this generation? TIA

I have the 13’ CRV the car vibrates pretty badly while on idle on D gear (for example red light/stop sign) although only years I see are 2015-2016 but older version of the 4th gen crvs seem to have the issue like mines too, don’t know the fix for it
