I'm finally back, but unfortunately, Suzuki isn't. Last selling a car in the US in 2013, Suzuki is an often forgotten-about brand that made some pretty decent cars. The SX4 is one of those cars with excellent value, especially for anyone needing AWD.

It's actually better than a Subaru. One of the coolest features is that it's 2wd, awd, and 4wd. If you get it in six speed manua, it can be flat towed, Subarus can't. It also moves like a little race car if you like!

I have a 2009 model and absolutely love it, it's a beast in snow. Unfortunately they stopped selling Suzuki cars and trucks here in Canada several years ago which made no sence to me.

I am in the US that used to sell Suzuki here and they left the US market sadly I'm thinking about buying a black automatic I wish it was my own but it's not I'm just leaving cheap transportation because I have a mustang GT let's save put in the winter how do you guys like these cars just for day today

in a world where people want $7k for a 20 year old 2wd 4runner with 300k, I was happy to get a manual sx4 for half the age, mileage, and price. double the gas mileage too!

I believe this car is the epitome of "The middle of the road". It's not really small, like a compact city bug, but it's not a SUV or Truck either. Perfectly in the middle of the 2 extremes. My friend owns one. It's a very anonymous car. All of these things are both positive and negative. I'm for it

I wouldn’t really consider the sx4 a beater. I call mine the good enough car. The power is good enough, the handling is good enough, and the ride is good enough. Throw in the AWD and 4WD and the price for a used one and it is an excellent car.

Yup! Love mine for the deal that it is. To be fair, it is planned to be my winter "beater" in the future. My plan is to have a fun RWD summer/weekend car in an older Miata and then eventually a newer Civic si or VW GTI. And then of course the Sx4 for winters. Just hit 100k!

Get the right tires and it's a better winner

If you buy one, try to get 2010-13. They have the j20b engines and don't have problems with the oil pump.

Happily, Suzuki's are still sold in Europe, and in the UK. Thanks for an informative and well-presented review. It's refreshing to see an American driving a manual transmission car - almost every car review from the USA is on automatic cars. It's as though having a car with manual transmission is against the American Constitution...

I think many drivers in the USA just never learned to drive manual transmission cars. Driver's Ed didn't have them in my school in the late 70's when I was taking the class. It's not an intentional snub of manual transmission cars, but a choice for some clearly out of necessity.
