This video shows you how to locate the Factory preset 2013-17 Ford Escape Keyless Entry Code.
1. You need to locate the Smart Junction Box (SJB).
2. The SJB is located on the passenger side, underneath the glove box.
3. You will need to remove the fabric cover over the SJB. Very simply, remove 2 plastic nuts (you can remove these with your hands -- no tools required).
4. This will allow you to easily see the SJB. The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) code is located on a Black & White sticker, located above one of the electrical connectors (closest to the fender).
5. The RKE code will be above the barcode on that sticker. It's 5-digits followed by a letter. This 5-digit code is the Factory RKE code

I have a 14 Escape. Bought it used and it didn’t have the original owners manual. Made the mistake of locking my keys in it this morning. Thankfully I have a friend that’s a tow truck driver to get the doors unlocked. I watched your video, got the code and now I won’t have to make that mistake again. Thank you so much!!!

Just bought a 2017 Titanium Escape. Was not given the code and didn't ask for it got home. Realized that I didn't ask about the code. Went to look in the owners manual. NO owners manual! Texted salesman about code. He looked it up. Sent it to me. Saved me money! Shawn

Dude, you are the man!!! Other videos had removing the glove box, etc. etc. Forget that! This works! It’s very tight (having a small head helps, like I do) and you have to close one eye, but it’s there and you can read it! My Mom just got a 2015 Escape and no door code. She’s going to be super happy and save a few dollars. Thank you very much!!!

Thanks you i found the code thanks to your video and it successfully locked and unlocked my 2015 Ford Escape !! To lock the doors just press 7/8,9/10 and it will lock your doors but thanks again

I asked Ford Service themselves if they could help me figure out the code to my car and they gave me some ineffective advice. I should have known to look on the internet before asking them... at least I now don't have to go to the dealership and pay actual money to figure it out! Thank you!

TY - just saved me a bunch of money getting the mfg code for keyless entry. OMG - it did take several tries and finally had to have my children crawl in the space to find it. We found the last 4 numbers but the first number was nearly impossible to see. It was between 2 numbers it could be. We tried the first posssible number and it worked. The Ford dealer told us it would be between $39-and $98 to retrieve it. So thank you again for saving us having to pay!

Thank you! Another Ford owner helped and happy to save the $50.00 the local dealership said they would have to charge me for a half hour of labor since it required that they hook the car up to a computer to obtain the factory code. I appreciate posts like yours more than you know. :)

Thank you SO much! I just bought my escape pre-owned but the card was not in the car. I called Ford and they were going to charge me $65, saying they would have to get into the computer. Craziness! Thank you!

Pro tip: turn on your phone's flash and record a video with flash on. Was easy to see the code on my phone this way. No straining to see it with my eyes.

Using an ipod touch in video mode, and a flashlite, and a dozen tries, I was finally able to see the first three numbers. There were twenty-five possible combinations to go along with the first three. Took about ten minutes to find the right combination.

The number you need is roughly in the area hidden by the glove box. Maybe an led work light laid on the floor and a iPhone or something similar taped to something like a piece of yardstick. If you could poke it up there and VERY slowly move it up and down and right and left for a couple of minutes you might get lucky.

Hey Henry, sounds like you’ve had an escape for awhile! Have you ever had wiper issues? I’m a car guy and refuse to take it to a shop and I can NOT figure this one out. Haven’t tested the motors but everything else I can think of seems in tact. Thank you

You really have to squeeze under the dash and know where to look, but it works. Thank you very much for the great instructions and for saving me $50. I am all for the dealer getting his money but this would have been robbery.

I could see the sticker, but couldn't get my head in the right position. I used my phone in video mode with a mirror on the floor, so I could see the screen. This was a 2016 Escape. The dealer wanted $70. Took less time than a drive to the dealership. Thanks for the tip.

i removed the light and looked therough the framing to see the code .. still didnt see it , so at the bottom of the SJB " box" you can unclip the whole thing from a frame . i did that and was able to angle it so slightly to get my code !! thanks again

I had a 2015 Ford Escape SE. I did changed the pass code on the vehicle towards something that I know. I even did it on my 2011 Mercury Milan. Even my 2020 Ford Escape SE when I first got it. That one was easiest to changed. I still have the little piece of paper just in case that I want to change it back. Nah!! I won’t. I used the same code on each vehicle.

Thanks for the video. It is impossible to get up there to see it unless you're young, small, and flexible. I could just barely see the edge of the sticker. Aim your flashlight and your phone up in there and take a video for while, you'll get the code after a couple tries

When I tried to look up mine I found a barcode that had a five digit code right above the connector but it was attached to a cable, but it didn't work. I guess i have to look farther up...

can you please show us how to disable the dame thing? this is horrible you cant change the factory default, once its compromised its game over... you can always add/remove new codes but can never change or delete the factory code as its programmed into the PCL... i want to disable the key pad atleast

Good question, according to the owners manual in the Fuse Panel that is under the hood (next to the battery). Fuse labeled “F48” is dedicated to the “KeyPad”. I have yet to verify this would work, but I would assume if you pulled it, that should kill power to it. I might make a video soon to see if this would work. Thanks!

Is this the same on 2013 Ford Explorer also? The 2013 Ford Explorer Owner's Manual states it "is available from your authorized dealer" which was verified by the first Ford customer service rep who connected me with the dealer where I purchased the auto. However, this call (my car was locked due to my key fob getting wet and no longer working) was met with "tow it in and we will charge you to get it reprogrammed. We don't keep the code for security reasons". Next call to Ford -- they said they don't keep it either."

I purchased my 2013 Explorer Limited and to my surprise the code was no where to be found. i went to another dealership and the got my VIN and gave me my code in 5 mins.
