Just a quick video showing how I changed the Front Brake Pads & Rotors on a 2018 Toyota Rav4 XLE. I believe that this is the Made in Japan version with the larger 296mm or 11.65" rotors.
Toyota manufactured this vehicle with two different sizes of front brake rotors:
275mm or 10.8" Rotors are on vehicles that were made in Canada or China.
296mm or 11.65" Rotors are on vehicles that were made in Japan. (And on XLE AWD models)
The brake pads are different as well. Please confirm the size you need before ordering the new rotors and pads. Some auto parts distributors and vendors may have the different sizes categorized differently, i.e. by the trim etc. It helps to provide the V.I.N. number to make sure you get the correct parts. I still recommend taking off a front wheel ahead of time and measuring the rotor diameter before ordering the parts.
The process is the same to change either size rotors and pads.
Tools needed:
14mm socket and/or wrench for caliper slide pin bolts
17mm socket and/or wrench or breaker bar for caliper bracket bolts
Flathead Screwdriver or pry bar for prying the caliper piston back in.
A C-Clamp or caliper piston compression tool works fine too.
Torque wrench
Silicone Brake grease
Medium strength thread locker
Small Sledge Hammer
The torque specs I found online are:
25 ft. lbs for the caliper slide pin bolts
72 ft. lbs for the caliper bracket bolts
Thanks for watching!
