The outcome: Well, its hard to describe. Once you have driven the first meters you instantly feel the weight of the car. It feels comfortable and heavy, almost like a 7-series. At low revs and in comfort mode there is nothing that distinguishes this car from, lets say a 530d. But once you hit sport mode and press the gas all the way through it is just amazing how this big ole bus rockets aways from anything else on the road. I can just tell you, it is all about the torque!!! From 0-100 could have gone quicker but how this car accelerates from 160 - 260 is unrivalled, at least in the diesel class. I had one for almost 5yrs now (2012)... Can say, it'sby far the best car I've ever driven. Not the fastest (have a GT4 too), not the most agile, but the way it combines comfort, size, power, elegance while still being discrete: unbeatable! I am changing it for a 740e, which is much cheaper for taxes, but I will sure miss my M550d :(

great Video......loved the camera angles and the sound of that exhaust! Its very hard to believe that under the bonnet is a diesel engine! And also to see it rev so much was absolutely astonishing. Please make more videos like these.....dont stop

Damn 9,7 liters/100 km at 250 km/h 03:06 ... with my Peugeot 5008 (112 HP) I do 8,0 l / 100 km when I drive at 150 km/h :p ... that is efficiency !!!!

The crankshaft can spread out the force from each 3 pairs of pistons with every 120 Degree. 3*120=360 degrees in a circle. In Physics one one direction has a force which will cancels out the combine force from the other two. And because of inline-6 only have one camshaft so structurally it doesn't need any complicated modification to enlarge the size of displacement.

Endlich mal nen Fahrtest ohne Sappelei nur um die Daten aufzusagen die man vorher schon weiß. Macht weiter so,würde mich auch über mehr Fahrtest freuen.

Weiß sind die Uhren bei Tageslicht, wenn es dunkel wird schaltet die Instrumentenbeleuchtung automatisch auf rot!

Wirklich eines eurer besten Videos und das sage ich, obwohl ich kein Fan des M550d bin. Der Motor wird ja immer mit dem 4.2 TDI von Audi verglichen, gibt es vielleicht die Chance diesen Motor im Q7/ A8, Touareg oder im Cayenne S Diesel zu fahren? Wäre toll & macht so weiter :)

The fuel consumption is quite impressive. When he was doing the 0-100 and 0-200 run the average consumption was just around 10L/100KM. I mean my 2010 Volvo V70 2.5FT does like 20L/100KM when I try a 0-100 run:P

David Persson in good conditions an e39 can do 0-62 mph in about 4.9 seconds so it's extremely similar

Es sind tatsächlich 3 Turbolader verbaut, aber natürlich arbeiten diese nicht nebeneinander sondern sind in einer ziemlich komplizierten Weise miteinander verknüpft.

Sixt hat meines Wissens kein "M" am Kennzeichen. Das sieht nach nem normalen Werks- oder Vorführwagen aus. Macht die ganze Sache natürlich auch nicht besser. ;)

Pat Murderous Für solche Tätigkeiten nicht zugelassen? Schau dir mal die Kurvenfahrt auf der Landstraße an... sehr weich und alles andere als rabiat. Was glaubst du, wie andere Sixt-Kunden wohl fahren, die dieses Fahrzeug ausleihen? Die leihen sich das ganz sicher nicht aus, um damit 60 bei 70 und 120 auf der Autobahn zu fahren. Solche Kunden wie hier im Video nimmt Sixt mit Kusshand, zumal es viel wirksamere Werbung ist, als wenn das Auto mal eben durch eine Stadt oder von A nach B fährt.

You're saying it's impossible? Assuming this car meets EPA emissions standards, it shouldn't be that difficult at all. BMW already sell a number of diesel engine-ed cars here.

Yeah, I guess the consumption is a very interesting part of this car. Let's make it clear. It definately consumes more than a "regular" 530d or 535d. I'm currently driving a 740d (313hp) and that is more fuel efficient than the M550d. On the other hand, the 550d has a very unique sport character with a lot of power at high rpm, very untypical for a diesel. I would say you consume 8.5 Liter under normal Autobahn conditions, probably not even more in the city....

Modern diesels are fantastic performers but for me they will never beat a petrol engine for sound and rev range.This doesn't come close to the V10 in my M6, though the fuel economy of the diesel is a major advantage in it's favour, but did I see 13 miles to gallon on the idrive ! I will stick to my petrol powered M6 for a while yet !

I assume BMW M550d Xdrive can generate 376hp on 4400 RPM. Anyhow, you were driving on comfort mode therefore you have reached 0-100 in 5.7 sec., in Sport+ mode it can be less depends on tires, wind speed and other factors up to 4.5 Sec. Of-course I'm writing my statement based on experience driving a same car but 2015 model ( Sport winter tier mounted). Maybe there is small difference in technical issues. 256 Km/h is the maximum in my experience.

Hi best channel i have a 550d f10 2012 and my gearbox vibrates judder stutters at low speed low rpm like 1000-1900 rpm from 0-60 km-h any one has the same problem

Yes, everyone can. But some can write something down that makes sense and others can't. Some say they prefer the power delivery of petrol engine over a diesel one. That is completely understandable and reasonable. You on the other hand, expressed your opinion like a child. Do you know smart diesels or petrol engines? Don't you know the difference between a truck and e 5-series performance BMW? This M550D is the fastest diesel car in the world. All but just a "stupid noisy diesel truck".

Victor Stamenov No-one is claiming that it is overall better on paper. It is personal preference. Like you think that the M5 is an icon. Others feel that the M3 or 7-series is the icon. The only aspects where this M550D is better than a M5, is the mileage, the torque and a less pronounced exterior.

Why does it say M7 sport on the dash? I know there's no such thing as an M7 but it seems a little tacky to call a sports package (assuming that's what it is) a 7 when this is a 5-series... Or maybe it's just my OCD.

I don't like the marketing trick with this car. I know, that in many cases the last two numbers are not exactly telling the engine size like f. e. in the 5 series with a 2L engine wich is called 528i but at least it produces 245PS wich is close to a "normal" 2.5l or 2.8l engine. But what has this 3l, 381PS engine to do with a 5l engine? Also the name sugests a much bigger gap between this car and the 535d than it really is.

It's just history. They've kept the names and updated the engines to be more efficient and more powerful as well. I admit that having a 6 cylinder is part of bmw 's legacy,
