Good to know for an Ottawa, Ontario winter like this! At least it had the heated seats to make it seem more comfy in the winter weather! I love the unique muffler integrated into the rear bumper!

Nice review geared for people that need a small inexpensive car. The spark is a great value for the price.

2LT with the 5 speed manual is the only way to get the Spark. I'm glad you did that, Steve. EVERYONE should do that.

Under normal driving, how many miles did you get with a full tank of gas? Just wondering, thanks...

hey, "great man" you may downsize later on and it's not because you "get poorer " but you get more sensible in your golden years or when "things" or excesses aren't that necessary any more.

What makes you come to that conclusion? The 6-speed manual in the Sonic 1.4 has sixth gear at .61 as opposed to the Spark's .76 in fifth. Granted, the Spark makes less power and has a shorter final drive but it would seem there's room there for one more gear reduction. Yet I see why engineers and bean counters likely come to the conclusion that it's not worth it.

The 2014 Chevy Spark will have a lower gear ratio to help with highway driving. The perk is better highway mpg, but slightly lower city. Should solve the high revving noticed though. Good on Chevy for paying attention!

Erm, I'm sorry, I don't see the Chevy Spark in the same league as the premium MINI or the Fiat 500 , or Smart .

this doesn't get the best mpg in the subcompact class, the nissan versa does at 35mpg

You averaged 26.4 MPGs? Did you do a lot of hard runs? Seems to me that's way off than what Chevy claims. If you averaged those MPGs under normal driving, a lot of motivated buyers looking for better MPGs will walk away just because of that. Anyway, thanks for the review, I really enjoyed it :)

I'll agree if you want more performance out of your small vehicle - I'd take the MINI Cooper. The Fiat 500 is small yet handles well, but the inside isn't as practical as the Spark. The Spark doesn't have 100 hp, but its that city car that you need to handle chores, and have capability to add 2 more passengers in the back. It's all what you prefer in a small urban commuter car.

I like driving small, efficient cars as I do a lot of city driving, but the Spark is just too small even for my liking. The Sonic would probably be the smallest size people are willing to downsize in order to save on operating costs.

Mini car is NOT a new genre. You can say it's a revived genre in the US, but it's not new. When the hybrid vehicles came out, that was a new genre.

No, the Versa is big enough to be considered a "compact."

you cant gauge the fuel economy by glancing at the cars avg mpg gauge. you have no clue what the driving conditions could be. spirited driving? lots of idling? 100% city? etc. cold weather also costs a few mpgs. if you want to know the average buyers mpgs or track your own go take a look on fuelly.com

This is an ideal city car that is better than a Scion iQ, Fiat 500, Smart for two.

I'd take the Fiat or Mini over them all because of their sportiness and somewhat exclusivity. The spark is really just a small car for someone that needs wheels, and 4 doors. Its cheaper too.

It seems like Chevy is the only brand still struggling to keep up in terms of interior quality. Catch up, idiots. This is why I bought a Fusion instead of a Malibu.

Nice review, indeed, But every time I see the Spark, I do not see a Chevy, instead I see a Matiz "Dawoo",no quality, bad feelings!. I hope lot of people would buy it, because this type of cars are a must that most of the cars company are trying to ignore them for USA, of course, they are in the belives that still in this country money is on the floor just waiting to be picked up,NO MORE MY FRIEND FOR THE MAYORITY.I wish they turn to be reliable cars.

mark marshall I have a 99 model. Alright gas mileage, extremely reliable and no car payment make it a great all around grocery getter. I won't drive it on long travels because it's not the most comfortable for me but it's a bullet proof car and that's all that matters right now.
