I show you how to change the automatic transmission fluid in a non CVT 9th gen Civic. This process is also similar to the 8th gen Civic but not 100% the same.

For everyone that says I added too much fluId, I did not, I used 4qt's because 3 was not enough. The manual does recommend 3qts for a drain and fill, I put 3 in and it was still low. PLEASE STOP TELLING ME I ADDED TOO MUCH FLUID.

Yeah, it can take 4 quarts, it all depends on how long you let the fluid drain and how you jack up the car while doing the d&f

In the video you don't show when you check the level. You just poured all 4 quarts. Was it on level ground? I find that if you keep the spout on top when filling it pours out smoothly. Thanks for the vid. 👍

There are two filters in Hondas BRZA Transmission which 2013 Civic is equipped with; Internal Strainer Filter and External Cylindrical Cooler Filter. Unfortunately the whole transmission needs to be dropped so as to replace the internal filter.

According to the owners manual, a transmission change requires 2.5 quarts. Why did you put in 4 quarts?
@OrlandoDrivers
@OrlandoDrivers 6 жыл бұрын
Jaymin it depends, I had my car on ramps. Servicing the car on a lift (like a dealer would) may only net 3 quarts of fluid. I let mine drain for a long time to get as much of the oil out, I checked it at the "normal" 2.5-3 quarts and it needed more. So I ended up using 4 qaurts.

It sure looked like you just poured in 4 quarts of transmission fluid, but you checked the level as you went?
@josephshakal9017

Mine takes 2.5 qt. Regardless of what anyone says, measure what drains out, then, put that much back in. How? I change the engine oil, then use the empty engine oil bottles to measure what drained out of the transmission. The transmission holds 8 or more qt in total, but only 2 to 4 drains out. Therefore, I drain & fill at every engine oil change.

Hey everyone. In a respectful note to the guy doing his own work. Good job. I have a 13 civic ex-l R18 1.8l auto. Why is that some people say to use 4 quarts, some say almost 6 and others say 2.5 quarts. You cant debate this cause if you Google it. You will see yourself. And there is no machine at a Honda dealership that sucks out tranny fluid. With that said. How may quarts of tranny fluid should the transmission be filled back up with? Let's say you didnt measure what came out. How do you know how much to put in. Any professional help with KNOWLEDGE of this. Please reply. Thx guys

Add 2.5qts and then go for a short drive to make sure the fluid is hot and made it's way through all the gears. With the engine off check the fluid level with the dipstick. The fluid must be checked "HOT" with engine off. Add a bit at a time but shouldn't need more than 2.75qts.

Damin Reynolds not sure what the sizes are, Honda doesn't really list that. I get mine from Amazon.

Eduardo Figueredo should be CVT fluid. Might want to check the manual, I'm not sure.

you need to get your car flat position otherwise not all fluid would drain..

@@todds.6028 Honda says 3x drain and fill to flush iirc, I don’t do it. Just change what’s in the drain pan more frequently. Normally every 15-23k miles for me. Is a easy task to do while changing motor oil.

I would drain and refill with the right atf several times because there's always oil left in the transmission. Don't know what problems you'll get, but shifting will probably be one.

2015 Civic had either CVT automatic or manual. Midyear 2013 is when Civic switched to CVT in the American market.

I just bought mine used and it has 55k miles, and I said to myself I will do some maintenance before I start using the car, and I changed the transmission fluid and filter at the dealership, and I'm freaking out right now, the car jerks when shifting and has like sudden movement when I step on the gas, the car didn't do any of this before I changed the fluid. Please advise me I'm freaking out, I'm afraid I will need a transmission rebuild, but it's only 55 thousand miles 😥

Get the crush washer from a dealer. The Honda OEM crush washer is a slightly different size from what you can get in an auto parts store.
